"George, it's OVER!" -- Text Conversation via 10th Graders

Colonists: It's over!

King George: What do you mean its over?

Colonists: You didn't see this coming? We are so tired of you. You're such a bully. We couldn't take it anymore.

King George: But wait! Can't we just try and work this out? Don't leave me.

Colonists: Why should I stay!? You didn't even let us have trials by jury. My best friend was found guilty of something that wasn't even her fault. Your so lame.

King George: Because need to understand there are some things that I just have help anymore. I'm sorry.

Colonists: Sorry!??? You're not sorry. You don't even care. But I can tell you one thing, you will be sorry when your export revenue goes down cause we stop buying all that tea.

King George: But... but... please...?

Colonists: I already said its OVER! What don't you get? And on top of that you always have your stupid army friends watching everything I do! What? You don't trust me? It's done. I am so over you.

How do you like working in Milwaukee? I'm in Waukesha and teach pre-k in Brookfield (hi neighbor!), but have considered moving to the MPS system.

I like working in Milwaukee. It can bee trying at times!

Day 2: Students began by creating Venn Diagrams using graphic organizers to compare fiction and nonfiction text features. Then we dove into reading! Students were able to choose any nonfiction book off of the table. I used National Geographic Sets on different science and social studies topics. Next, they were able to sit around the room and read from the book of their choice. When they finished reading they were to complete a graphic organizer. I allowed them to pick from the 4 choices. Students seemed to be really engaged with this activity. Not only did they like the books, but they also liked the fact that they got to make choices!

Day 1 of Nonfiction Unit students brainstormed features of text a to begin our comparison. We will start with Venn Diagrams tomorrow.

"Giggles in the Middle"

This is the first year that I am using "Giggles in the Middle" in my 6th grade ELA class. Anyone that is interested, I have taken all 125 days and created a PPT that has each day to project as a warm-up each morning. I would be happy to send it to you!

When you grow up I hope you still think of science class when its raining or math class when your finishing up a meal and calculating the tip. But mostly I hope you realize how special you are, how talented you are. That you never let anyone get in the way of doing what is right and that you spend your days being kind, honest, and silly. Thank you for the joy you have brought to my life and making me a better teacher and person. I am forever indebted to you. Love, Missy
