Word finding
We all have had issues with finding a word to describe what we are talking about. Its that elusive word thats on the tip of our tongue. Having this issue is more anout retrival amd filing. Its like taking a filing cabinet of wprds and dumping them on the floor and trying to retrive one word out of the mess. You can work with a speech therapist to get some techniques to help but here are techniques to help : ~ describe the word you are trying to use ~ recite your a, b, c`s ~ picture it ~ relax ~ write down key words ~ use word association ~ write a script ~ play word games

Cleaning Two options either get someone to clean for you or clean yourself and break down into steps. Break down includes daily, weekly, monthly, amd yearly. Daily: Avoid clutter Clean up while cooking Stack the dishwasher Use spray cleaners and disinfectants Use automatic toilet bowl cleaner Weekly: Carry supplies with you Do things in order i.e. dust first, sweep, vacuum, then mop floors Spring cleaning: Things like wash walls, wash windows, wash cabinets

Service animals
http://theinjuryco-op.com/service-animals-how-they-can-help-tbi-sci-survivors/#.U5qMCH1MFoM Service animals are protected by the american disability act. The most common service animal are dogs. Miniature horse or monkey can be used but each breed has their challenges i.e. size or domestication problems. And monkeys are not the ADA in puble places. There are also some qualifications to have an animal be a service animal. They must be house broken. They must be on a leash or tethered. They must remain in control in public. Not barking at people and not getting out of control. These sites offer more information. http://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm

Dreams
We all know sleep is very important. A common thread between all brain injuries is fatigue. Whether it is having trouble falling asleep, trouble with staying asleep, or needing breaks between tasks. Sleep is way important but hard to attain some way, shape, or form. Now if you are having problems with sleep there are many things you can do. There are always medications to help. Then there are always things to promote sleep hygiene. Sleep hygiene includes: - Going to sleep at the same time every night and getting up around the same time. – Avoid caffeine. –Don’t exercise too late. -Even the temperature of you room plays a role. -And last but not least light. Now to talk about dreams specifically, there are two stages of sleep REM and non-REM sleep. Dreams happen in the REM cycle. We spend about 20 percent of sleep in REM cycle. You can have several or more dreams in one night. In the articles that I’ve read, nothing mentions that a brain injury can affect your dreams. The only conclusion that I find that having a brain injury could affect remembering your dreams because of the cognition delays that occur. Here’s some of the articles I’ve used for this research: http://www.tbiguide.com/sleepdisorders.html http://www.brainline.org/content/2009/06/sleep-and-brain-injury_pageall.html
Shopping how too's
With shopping there comes a lot of anxieties or issues like remembering what to or even where you parked your car. Then you can experience over stimulization from the store, including sight, smell, and visual/auditory senses. Some strategies include: -Pick a time of day where you feel the best. Whether thats mornings or afternoons. Put in to consideration when the store will be crowded. And when you are the most alert. -Make lists. -list what you want to buy and be as descriptive as possible. Include the brand, the item, and amount -go through the house and do an inventory -break the trips to the store up if you need to. If you experience over stimulation or fatigue -Make a master list. To save time on a repetitive task, make a master list of common things you need. You can edit accordingly. Put staple items that are needed often permanently and leave spaces to put in other items that are not always needed every trip. -Have a notepad or dry erase board in your kitchen so when you realize you need something you write it down right away.
