Peyton groaned at Paige’s reaction and she rolled her eyes. “Shut up,” she muttered, shifting in her seat to desperately try find a comfortable position. Paige started asking about her music just as another contraction hit Peyton and the girl hissed, her face crumpling with pain. “I swear to god,” she muttered. “If you keep talking,” she paused, grunting softly, “I will strangle you with my bare hands,” Peyton warned, her eyes closed and her head thrown back against the headrest. 

“It’s gonna be alright, Pey. I promise.” She lightly rested her one hand on her best friend’s leg. Paige quickly glanced over at Peyton and saw the look on her face. She knew that fell well enough to know that it was certainly time to shut up. Paige didn’t say another word until they got to the hospital. She practically ran to help the pregnant woman out of the passenger seat. “We’re her, babe. C’mon.” She said softly as she held a hand out for the girl to grab.

Peyton looked up at Paige for a moment and then nodded when she was told not to apologise. She hobbled through the doors of the studio and then into the passenger’s seat on the car. Peyton groaned softly and leaned her head back against the head rest. “Why didn’t anyone tell me it would hurt this much?” She complained as her belly tightened with another contraction.

Paige quickly closed the passenger side door and ran to her own and got in. “There’s a small human inside you that wants out, why you’d think it wouldn’t hurt this much should be the real question.” she giggled slightly. Paige drove as quickly as she could to the hospital which was inconveniently halfway across the city. “So how was the studio? Is the music coming along well?” She tried to talk to distract her a little bit. She had no idea if that was what she should be doing in this situation but hoped it might help.

Peyton couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief when she heard Paige’s voice. Paige tried to calm her down but Peyton shook her head and gripped her belly with her free hand. “I can’t,” she gasped as another contraction snaked down her spine and sunk its fangs into her abdomen. “I’m not ready,” she cried, although she’d been ready for months now. It wasn’t long before she heard Paige’s voice out in the foyer of the studio. Peyton’s manager pointed to the bathroom, clearly a little fearful as she had been listening to Peyton moan and cry since she’d vanished into the bathroom. Pey hobbled over to the bathroom door and pulled it open slowly, huffing when she saw Paige. “I’m sorry about your shoot,” she murmured, sweat already beading at her hairline.

“You are ready. You are. You are going to be the best mother this baby girl could ever have.” She tried to assure the girl as she drove. Paige rushed in the direction the man had pointed her to. She was met at the door by a sweaty and slightly hunched over Peyton. She wrapped her arm around the girls waist to give her a little support and help her walk. “Hey, don’t apologize. I’d much rather be here with you... Now, let’s get you to a hospital.” She told her as she helped her through the studio and to her car which she had left by the front door.

Peyton cursed again as she messed up the song. She looked down, running her hand over her tight bump, moaning quietly as another wave of pain washed over her. She was stood in the studio, desperately trying to finish the vocals on the last song of her third album, but Lennon was resting heavily on her hips and the pain was taking her breath away. No one dared to suggest that Peyton give up; she’d been snapping at everyone that day. “How about we take five?” Her bass player said, wary of Peyton’s mood. The brunette shot him a look before another contraction washed over her like a riptide and her knees weakened. The petite woman nodded and waddled out of the studio and into the bathroom. She rested her head against the cool tiles of the bathroom and let out another cry as she felt her abdomen contract again. She was only a week off her due date and knew that she could go into labor at any time. Peyton leaned one hand against the sinks and whimpered, her hand clutching at her belly. Peyton pulled her phone out and called Paige, skipping the greeting. “I think she’s coming,” Peyton sobbed, her shaky hand wiping at her tears. “I can’t– it hurts so much, Paige,” the younger girl cried.

Paige was constantly worried about Peyton especially with her getting so close to her due date. She made sure she knew her schedule so she’d know where the girl was if she needed her, refused any offers for gigs that were out of town, kept her cell phone on her at all times with no exceptions. Paige was at a photo shoot when her phone started buzzing. She didn’t hesitate to put the shoot on hold to answer her phone. “Pey?” She heard the girls sobs and immediately gestured to end the shoot. “I’ll be there in five. It’s gonna be okay, babe. Just think, you’re going to meet your baby girl soon.” She tried to calm the girl as she rushed to her car. She drove so fast that she should have been charged with stunt driving but she somehow made it to Peyton’s studio safe and sound. “Where is she?”

Peyton nodded. She couldn’t wait to hold her daughter in her arms, to have someone depend on her entirely. “Yeah, you can be on night duty,” she smirked although really she would never make anyone else take care of her daughter. She didn’t want to get a nanny, or even have to hand her over to Paige for an afternoon. Peyton wanted to prove - to both herself and the world - that she was capable of looking after her own daughter. “I want her here now,” she admitted out loud, placing her hands lovingly on her bump. Sure, she was scared as hell but there was no turning back now. Ever since getting the positive result on the pregnancy test she knew what she would have to do. Paige told her that Lennon would be perfect and Peyton’s grin grew ever-brighter. “Of course she will,” Peyton nodded. “She will be anything she wants to be.” She rubbed small, gentle circles on the side of her belly. The pair went into Paige’s mother’s office and Peyton hung back slightly. She’d always been the tiniest bit afraid of Paige’s mother. “Hey,” she smiled when the older woman hugged her.

“Wow, night duty. That’s my dream job, how did you know?” Paige joked with a slight roll of her eyes. Though she knew Peyton would never expect her to actually get up in the middle of the night with Lennon, but she gladly would to give Peyton some rest. She already wasn’t getting enough sleep and she would probably get less after the baby was born so anything Paige could do to give her even a few more minutes of sleep, she would do. “I know babe but you can’t exactly force her out and you only have a few months left. It’s not long now.” she assured her friend. “Absolutely anything. The sky is the limit!” Paige said excitedly. Though she had never really thought about having kids, she was excited to have one in the house. She could see what it was like and then decide if she wanted one of her own. “How have you girls been? Peyton, it’s been ages since I’ve seen you. You’ve gotten so big.”

"You only have a couple of months left. You can do it, Pey." she nudged the girl lightly with her shoulder. Paige knew her friend had been having a difficult time with being pregnant not only with having to change some of her habits but with having to eat more and gaining weight and deal with the pain of Lennox moving around and kicking her. It was horrible for her to have to go through that and Paige hated watching it. "The media are all hypocrites. The majority of them get pregnant before marriage and everyone gains weight when they’re pregnant so don’t listen to them." Paige wrapped her arms around her friend. "I’m coming. I don’t how long I’ll be in there because I don’t know what my mom needs but I’m coming for now." she smiled at the girl.

"I know," she said, sighing slightly. She couldn’t help but feel like all she had done was complain since getting pregnant. At first the transition had been hard; she’d had to learn to live her life with half a heart, to understand that she was growing another human being, to stop herself from throwing up every time she so much as glanced at food. Now it was harder. She had accepted that her life had changed forever by this tiny human and now she was set on making the world around her the best it could be for Lennon. Peyton nodded when Paige called the media hypocrites. "I know," she said again. "I’ll prove them all wrong by raising the happiest, healthiest little girl there’s ever been," she said with somewhat of a smug smile. Paige hugged her and Peyton smiled slightly, leaning in towards Paige as much as her round stomach would allow. "Then let’s go," Peyton smiled before pulling away from Paige and pushing open the door to Paige’s mother’s office.

"Good. Just think about how wonderful it will be when Lennon comes out and you’ll get through it. Plus I’m always here if you need anything." She assured the girl. She never wanted Peyton to think she was alone in this. Paige would be there every step of the way. "Yes you will. She’ll be perfect and they’ll all wish they could raise a kid as amazing as her." She grinned at her friend. She meant that one hundred percent. Paige knew that her best friend would be the most amazing mother anyone could ever have. She nodded and followed the girl into the familiar room. In there, her mother was zipping and unzipping dress bags to make sure all the dresses were perfect and labelled properly. "Hey mom." Paige smiled at the woman. She stopped what she was doing to look at her daughter and her friend. "Hi girls." She greeted as she hugged each of them.

"I know," she smiled sweetly and ran her hand over her belly. "But she’s  done nothing but kick my ass so far," she laughed lightly. Pey loved her daughter already, but she knew that she had several more months to go until the pain of carrying her inside her was over. Paige stopped, telling her not to compare herself to the models, and Peyton swallowed. She shrugged, giving a small smile. "It’s hard not to, the media are eating me alive for having a child out of wedlock…and now cause I’m getting so big," she sighed and shook her head. "And I know you tell me not to pay any attention to the media but its hard not to." She shrugged and continued walking. "Yeah," she murmured, laying her hand flat on the side of her belly. "But I think Len’s bored of the fashion show already," Peyton chuckled. She nodded when Paige told her where everyone would be and Peyton looked up at her. "Are you coming too or do you have somewhere else to be?"

"When I was younger I used to dream about being pregnant and getting to eat more and sleep all the time. The reality is not that great," she stuck her bottom lip out. Paige continued to curse the traffic and Peyton simply snickered, matching the girl’s glare with a kiss blown in Paige’s direction. They got out of the car and began to walk into the building. "I’m going to feel like such a damn mountain next to all your model friends," she muttered under her breath. They got signed in on the door and there were already stick-thin models wandering about the place. She began to long after their bodies whilst she and Paige walked through the halls until a particularly hard kick hit her lower ribs, earning a quiet, "ouch," from Pey. She then remembered that she was growing another human being and she not criticise herself. "Do you know where I’ll be able to find your mom? And I need someone to do my hair and makeup," she grinned at Paige.

"All the pain will be worth it once she comes out." She smiled at the girl. Paige knew that Lennon would be the biggest blessing Peyton had ever had and honestly, Paige as well. She would treat this child as if she was her own. "Peyton. don't compare yourself to them." she stopped, turning to the girl and grabbing her arm gently and lovingly. They got signed in and began walking through the hall looking for the backroom. "Are you okay?" Paige asked hearing an unpleasant sound come from her friend. "Yeah, she'll be in that room over there with the dresses." she said pointing to a room just a couple of rooms down and leading her there. "Then there will be make up people in the room next to it."

"I know," she chuckled, but continued to shake her head. "I’m pregnant, not an invalid," Pey murmured but didn’t argue any further. It was obvious that Paige agreed with her parents. Paige drove slowly and Peyton was almost grinding her teeth. Eventually they hit the traffic of the city centre and Peyton sat back a little, knowing that it would take a while to work their way through the cars. She couldn’t help but laugh every time Paige yelled at another driver and she looked over at the woman with a sly grin. "I’m sure they’re terrified of you right now," Peyton laughed. They finally arrived and parked out the back - which Peyton was glad for because she did not want to have to deal with paparazzi so soon after waking up. Peyton got out of the car and stretched, resting her hand on her belly as she felt an extra hard kick from within. "You ready to go in?" She asked, rubbing small circles on her stomach as she picked up her purse, hoping it would calm the child.

"I know Pey but you have to let yourself rest a little more than usual. That's not saying you can't do everything for yourself but you shouldn't." Paige knew her friend hated to feel helpless and the bigger she got the more difficult things would be for her and more she would have to rest. She would look over at Peyton every time she laughed and glare at her. "They should be. I'm going to kill them if they don't hurry the fuck up. I hate New York traffic." she sighed. After a while they finally arrived. Paige pulled in to the back entrance so they wouldn't be hounded by paparazzi on their way in. "Yeah, definitely." She quickly got out of the vehicle and locked it behind her as she began to walk toward the entrance beside her friend.

Peyton smiled when Paige said she was ready and she threw the strap of her purse over her shoulder. “Then let’s go,” Pey smiled widely. She grabbed the keys to her dad’s car, he’d told her that it was hers to use for as long as she and Paige stayed, and called a quick goodbye to her parents. On the way out Peyton handed the car keys to Paige. “Dad said that if I drove anywhere in my condition,” she rolled her eyes at the word. “Then he’d call child protective services or something,” Peyton laughed lightly. “Like they can do anything when Len isn’t even born, but whatever. I don’t want to make him mad,” she also didn’t want to put her unborn child at any risk, and therefore Paige was the designated driver. Peyton got in the passenger seat of the car and buckled up quickly.

Paige grabbed her bag from the counter beside her before nodding and following her friend out of the house. She took the keys from Peyton and headed to the driver's side if the car. It was strange for Paige to have to drive. She could drive and sometimes she even liked to drive but usually she had someone to drive her around especially before a shoot or a fashion show. "They're just worried about you, Pey. So it's best if I drive, just in case." She smiled at her before sliding into the seat and starting the car before slipping the seatbelt across her chest. She pulled out of the driveway and drove slowly and carefully to the building. Paige didn't want to put Peyton in any more danger than was inevitable on the roads of New York City. It took them a while to get there but they got there in one piece and Paige only yelled a couple of times.

Peyton simply grinned brightly at Paige. “You’re just jealous,” she said with a playful shove. Paige talked about the dress and Peyton nodded, trying to eat her breakfast as soon as possible. She knew that there was no real hurry if Paige was going to be one of the last models out but she knew that Paige would want to get there before everything started to make sure that everything was ready. “Anything that doesn’t make me look like I have my own orbit is fine with me,” she grinned brightly, finishing off her breakfast. Peyton put the plate in the sink and wiped her hands. “I’ll go get dressed and then we can go,” she said with a quick smile. Pey went up the stairs as fast as she could and got changed into something comfortable, throwing her hair up into a messy bun. She could get someone from wardrobe to do her hair and makeup when she got there, before going back downstairs. “You ready to go, baby?” She asked, walking into the kitchen whilst checking that everything was in her purse.

"Oh so jealous." She chuckled. Paige was in a bit of a rush but she knew she would be way more early than even she necessarily needed to be so she didn't rush Peyton, knowing it wouldn't be a huge deal if they were a tad later than she had planned. "Stop, you always look gorgeous, Pey." Paige finished her apple and threw it in the trash can before turning back to her friend. "Okie doke. Take your time." She told the girl before watching her go upstairs. While she waited for the girl to come back downstairs, Paige pulled out her phone and texted her mom that they would be on their way in a few minutes. Paige got this strange feeling in her stomach when Peyton called her baby but she brushed it off and smiled at the girl. "Ready!"

Peyton had already plated up enough pancakes for her mom and dad and was just finished off her own plate when Paige came down the stairs. “Of course they do,” she grinned. “I made them,” Pey smirked a little. She had never been a good cook but after getting pregnant she figured she would have to learn some culinary skills so that she could provide at least something for her daughter. Peyton watched Paige rinsing off her apple and swallowed. She hadn’t made herself throw up in months, but that didn’t mean she didn’t want to. Peyton knew how huge she was - the fact that she was short simply made her look obese, not pregnant - and watching someone like Paige who was tall and skinny eating only an apple made her smile falter slightly. She knew that she had to eat and, on days like these, Peyton knew she would only be eating for Lennon, not for herself. “Yeah,” Peyton nodded. “I called her a couple of minutes ago. She said she’d already had something ready for me cause she figured I would be coming over anyway,” Pey smiled widely. She moved her plate to the table and sat down next to her mother. “Do you know how long you’re going to be on the catwalk for?” the older woman asked Paige with a warm smile whilst Peyton hurried to finish her breakfast.

"Wow, cocky much?" Paige joked. She was never a good cook and neither was Peyton. Paige grew up rich so she always had someone to cook for her and make her whatever she wanted whenever she wanted so she had never needed to learn but now that she thought about it, maybe she should. She didn't want Lennon to become that girl who relied on someone else for everything. Paige walked over to her friend and leaned against the counter. "Perfect. Knowing her, it'll be beautiful. Only the best for you, babe." She smiled at the girl. "I'm not sure. Usually I'm the last one so I probably won't be out for a while."

Peyton sat and talked to her parents whilst Paige was in the shower. She could hear the girl moving around the house whilst she attempted to find the bathroom and Pey smiled to herself. She filled her parents in on what had been happening over the past couple of months and her mother insisted that Peyton lay down on the floor so that she could feel the baby. Peyton obliged, covering her face with her hands as her skin heated up with embarrassment. Peyton got up quickly as soon as her mother had finished her dumb examination on her daughter, feeling only slightly violated. She began to make breakfast for everyone, figuring Paige would be picky with what she was eating today but Peyton was starving anyway. Peyton began to make pancakes for the four of them, talking to her parents whilst she mixed the batter, and then looking up with a grin when she heard Paige coming downstairs.

Paige could smell the pancakes as she came down the stairs. She followed the scent to find her best friend in there cooking pancakes. She was so hungry but she couldn't eat something like pancakes right before she had to go on the runway so she grabbed an apple from the bowl on the table and walked to the sink to rinse it off. "Those pancakes smell great, Pey." She smiled at the girl. Paige peeled the sticker off the apple before biting into it. Right before a fashion show she either didn't eat or had some fruits or vegetables. Greasy or sugary food made her feel gross so she couldn't do it like she could on a normal day. Especially not during fashion week. "Hey have you talked to my mom about your dress yet?" She asked. She knew her mom must have something but they needed to leave in a few minutes and timing was going to be tight if she didn't have the dress yet.

Peyton smiled when Paige only loosened her hold instead of letting go of her entirely. “Yeah, I was,” Peyton nodded, resting her hand against her forehead. “I hadn’t slept properly in a couple weeks,” she admitted. Peyton groaned when Paige said that they would have to leave soon. “I know,” she sighed, sticking her bottom lip out. After a couple more moments Peyton rolled over and sat on the edge of the bed, grabbing her glasses and slipping them onto her nose. “I’ll go see what’s happening for breakfast. bathroom is down there,” she pointed left out of the door whilst pushing herself into a standing position with a quiet grunt. “You should be able to find the towels and stuff pretty easily,” Peyton smiled before stretching, her arms elongated above her head. “See you downstairs,” she grinned before leaving Paige in the bed and going downstairs into the kitchen with her parents. She got a cup of tea for herself and made a coffee for Paige just how she liked it.

"Well I'm glad you got some decent sleep. You needed it." She smiled at the girl, knowing she needed all the rest she could get. Paige chuckled lightly as her friend groaned. She reluctantly let go of her friend and sat up.  "Alrighty. I'll be down after I shower. Thanks." After Peyton left the room, Paige slid off of the bed and walked over to her suitcase that the driver had brought up to the bedroom to find something to wear. After decided on a pair of skinny jeans and a cute blouse, she grabbed them and headed out of the bedroom. She walked down the hall, looking in a couple of doors until she found the one that took her into the bathroom. She turned on the hot water before searching around the room for towels. After finding them in a cupboard, she grabbed one and set it beside the shower before stripping off her clothes and getting in. She let the hot water relax her muscles and prepare herself for the runway. After a while in the shower she quickly dried herself off and got dressed before going downstairs to find Peyton.

Peyton felt Paige’s arms tighten around her and she smiled. “Careful,” she laughed quietly, tucking her head under Paige’s chin again. “You’ll crush Lenny if you hold me too close,” Peyton smiled to herself. “Yeah, I slept good,” Peyton murmured quietly and smiled, rubbing her nose softly. “What’s the time?” She asked, pushing herself up onto her elbow to look at the clock on her bedside table. “Ten fifteen,” she sighed, laying back down with Paige, her hand resting on her belly. “I don’t want to get up.”

'Oops, sorry." she chuckled, loosening her grip a little. "That's good. You seemed exhausted last night." Paige smiled at the girl. "Uhm, I'm not sure." She looked over trying to glance at the clock. "Me either but we have to get up soon, babe. The show's in only a few hours and if I don't get there in plenty of time then my mom will kill me."

Peyton dozed happily in Paige’s arms until she heard the girl’s breathing change and then Peyton knew the older girl was awake. She smiled against the girl’s neck, taking in the warmth of Paige’s arms around her for a couple more moments before letting out a soft sigh. “Good morning,” she murmured, not bothering to open her eyes or even move away from Paige. She hadn’t had this much human contact in months and so she wasn’t about to throw the moment away and roll away from Paige. Paige, however wouldn’t surprise her if she moved away as soon as she realised that Peyton was awake. She carefully brought her head out of the gap between Paige’s chin and shoulder and smiled drowsily up at the girl. “Did you sleep alright?”

Her arms tightened around the girl instinctively. She smiled at the sight of the girl lying peacefully in her arms. She was surprised to hear the girl's voice because she thought she was still asleep but it was nice. "Good morning, Pey." She thought her friend would have pulled away as soon as she noticed it was Paige who was holding her and was surprised when she didn't. She smiled at her best friend. "Yeah, I slept pretty well. What about you?"

Peyton was so exhausted that she didn’t even stir when Paige got into the bed with her. She slept for several hours, usually harsh kicks from Lennon would wake her up but even that didn’t pull her back to consciousness. When she finally awoke it took her a moment to adjust. She wasn’t at home in Los Angeles, but after a couple of moments she remembered. The feeling of arms around her small body, however, was not something she would work out. Peyton frowned before opening her eyes, surprised to find that Paige was the one who was holding her tightly. Peyton’s arm was slung casually over Paige’s waist and her face was pressed against the older woman’s neck and shoulder. Peyton let out a soft sigh, removing her hand from Paige’s waist to push a couple of strands out of her face and rub at her eyes, before letting her hand fall back to rest on Paige’s waist. The sun was filling up the room and Peyton swore that if she listened hard enough she could hear Paige dreaming. Peyton was in no rush to get up and the pair didn’t need to be at the show until early afternoon so the younger girl decided to let Paige sleep a little while longer. The older woman’s watchful eyes hadn’t gone unnoticed and Peyton appreciated just how much Paige was trying to look after her and Lennon. Peyton smiled happily to herself and closed her eyes, nuzzling her face in towards Paige’s neck and simply laying there, soaking in the moment.

Paige fell asleep quite quickly. She was so exhausted and slightly jetlagged. She slept peacefully all the way through the night. Somehow in the middle of the night, she had wrapped her arms around Peyton and pulled her close to her body. She cared more for this girl than she had anyone before and was so protective over her, even more so now with her being pregnant. Her eyes finally fluttered open around ten o’clock to see her best friend in her arms and Peyton’s face in her neck. It was kind of comforting to hold the girl and know she and Lennon were safe in her arms. Though she was awake, she didn’t dare move in fear that Peyton would then also move and wake up. She was unaware that the girl was awake because she figured she would have moved away if she was.
