We were together for 5 years, he was an addict for 3. It ruined our relationship and together we lost everything to his addiction, partly because I was enabling him. When he refused treatment I had to leave him. After he overdosed, resulting in brain damage that had caused him to lose movement in his left leg, he admitted himself into rehab. It had been over a year and he finally completed his rehab, and he wanted to come and see me and his family for a weekend. I was so excited to see him, to see how he’d changed, excited that we could be together again if not as lovers as friends. As irony would have it he was killed by a chronic drunk driver as he was making the trip to us, someone who had over 20 previous drunk driving convictions. I lost a wonderful man who had overcome his addiction to someone who hadn’t, and hadn’t been punished previously for it.

I was noticing, the more you look at everything… this table, the objects on it, the refrigerator, this room, your nose, the world. Suddenly… you realize that there’s some sort of cosmic harmony of shapes and sizes. I was just wondering why. I don’t know why that is. I know that it is.
