Wow, my last drawing like this did really well. Once again, I don't know much about what colors are likely beyond how the middle ages did try to be a colorful place. So I apologize for any inaccuracies. This time I decided to try for more unified color schemes in the outfits.

it's only recently I learned that the 'mog' part of 'mogging' stands for 'male of group' (shortened from 'alpha male of group'). so the definition of 'mogging' as like, being deemed superior to someone else in some way or another is using manhood as synonymous with relational superiority.

this was obvious subtext anyway (the whole ideology in which the term emerges is a male supremacist one) but learning it's so explicit and unambiguous was kind of surprising. doubly so since this term is already starting the process of integrating into general usage outside this subculture, first as "ironic," then as decontextualized ("it's just outshining someone!"), and eventually probably as sincere.

casual reminder that it is probably best to not adopt the misogynistic concept of conveying hierarchical superiority in interpersonal contexts as "funny internet slang."

i want to talk about the presence of twins that is sprinkled across sunrise on the reaping. haymitch's unborn twin sisters, maysilee and marilee, louella/lou lou. someone said that there are so many twins here because it mirrors the games having a rule where twice as many tributes are in them, but i kept thinking about the symbolism and the only thing i came up with is this:

capitol tells everybody that those kids in the games/districts are disposable and replaceable. they don't matter. if they die in the arena, thousands of kids just like them are everywhere in the country. just pick another. but we of course know that's not true. i mean, maysilee died in the games and just because there is still someone with her face and her body out there, that doesn't mean that maysilee is not gone. that doesn't mean that there's another maysilee out there. no one can replace her and no one can replace any of those kids. lou lou is not a replacement for louella. both are human beings deserving of everything.

if you have any other theory about the symbolism of twins in this book please let me know i've been thinking about it for days

romulus and remus, the founding of rome. suckled by a wolf together. they disagreed on where to build their city, romulus killed remus and founded rome. so rome is founded on fratricide. there is clear attention to classical rome throughout the hunger games, with capitol citizens often having roman names like coriolanus and sejanus that reflect their roles in thg. the capitol is rome, the powerful are romulus, killing their brother (fellow people) to make their city exactly the way they want it
