"And it’s broken … B-R-O-K-E-N. Broken. It no worky no more, just buy a new one.”
"You are a huge pain in my ass. You know that right?"
"...you love it, really."
"No, I can’t fix it …it’s broken.”
"You’re an engineer! It’s a can opener!"
"And it's broken ... B-R-O-K-E-N. Broken. It no worky no more, just buy a new one."
"No, I can't fix it ...it's broken."
"Hey … I would rock that dress, I’ll have you know. The cold never bothered me, anyway … I live in Siberia for years.”
"…Oh please, go try and get that job. I can’t handle this."
"You love me really, I know."
"What are your thoughts on that?"
“I think you don’t have a lot of choice of employers and you’re one viewing of Frozen away from dressing in drag as Elsa to appease your daughter.”
"Hey ... I would rock that dress, I'll have you know. The cold never bothered me, anyway ... I live in Siberia for years."
"You need all the help you can get." He stated flatly, his fingers idly moving over the different magnets holding Charlee’s pictures against the door of the fridge, "You’re being overly cautious. I’m not Shostakov. I’m marrying one of your past operatives. I have already burned my bridges in Russia … and I happen to know you had a hand in aiding Mikhail Ursus and his more recent defection."
If it were anybody else, the way he touches the magnets, the drawings, the subtle reminders of what Phil had to lose, could be perceived as a threat. But this was Yuri, not some bit-part criminal and most likely the man did it out of familiarity. “— and now it’s definitely a no. Get out of my house, Yuri. I said I’d think about it and if that’s not good enough, then I can’t help you. Trying to blackmail me into giving you a hobby is not how you get your way, I don’t care who you think you are.”
"Wow ... Fury really picked a lemon." Where was the sense in this? The man was tasked with rebuilding the intelligence agency - Natasha had outed all of her aliases and covers. And here he was, asking to help - and it was being tossed to the side. Yuri blew out a short breath, straightening on of the magnets, "I piloted the Russian equivalent of Stark's suit. I blew a rather sizeable chunk out of Lukin's labs last year, and I am offering my expertise. You have a selection of Russian defectors you speak to on a regular basis - all of which you aren't using." Well, not utilising Alexei was a bit of a no-brainer, but there were other; Mikhail, Laynia, Tania, Ivan, the list went on. Yuri pursed his lips, shoulders lifting into a shrug, "I'm a father who wants to protect my two kids. Nothing more. Nothing less."
"I’m not asking to run riot, Coulson - I’m asking for a job.” He had two kids to think of. Money wasn’t an issue, not thanks to Jamie. But still - there were only so many times a man could watch Frozen before he cracked. He had skills and knowledge, all of which were going to waste sitting on a couch. “I’m highly skilled - be it in espionage or where engineering is concerned. You trust my father, don’t you? Natasha trusts him, he trusts me.”
"And I appreciate that, I really do —" Rebuilding SHIELD was a bigger project than he had anticipated - and that was saying something. Needing people he trusted was one thing, but pulling up the dregs of the espionage world was a completely seperate beasts. He needed a firm foundation and gathering up everyone who crawled out of the woodwork, regardless of their associates, might not be the best plan. Phil had known Jasper longer, trusted him better, more almost than anybody else. He didn’t even have Maria to bounce suggestions off. "Look, I’ll — I’ll think about it, alright? But right now, I’m sorry but the answer is no."
"You need all the help you can get." He stated flatly, his fingers idly moving over the different magnets holding Charlee's pictures against the door of the fridge, "You're being overly cautious. I'm not Shostakov. I'm marrying one of your past operatives. I have already burned my bridges in Russia ... and I happen to know you had a hand in aiding Mikhail Ursus and his more recent defection."
"… I made my way in here without raising your suspicions and you’re still alive, for one?” A snort of derision echoed back off the cupboards, his gaze wandering back to the man, “Do you seriously think, after what they did to Jamie and my mother - that I’m still going to be toting the Department X flag?”
"Oh, thank you for having the courtesy not to murder me in my own home, how gracious of you to choose not to get blood all over my three year old’s daycare painting." Phil shrugged on his jacket with an equally derisive look, unimpressed with the other man. "Just because you’re not chanting the anthem and hoisting the flag, doesn’t mean you’ve got carte blanche to run riot in SHIELD."
"I'm not asking to run riot, Coulson - I'm asking for a job." He had two kids to think of. Money wasn't an issue, not thanks to Jamie. But still - there were only so many times a man could watch Frozen before he cracked. He had skills and knowledge, all of which were going to waste sitting on a couch. "I'm highly skilled - be it in espionage or where engineering is concerned. You trust my father, don't you? Natasha trusts him, he trusts me."
"You think you’re hilarious … work. I’ve been thinking about work a lot.”
“Oh, I know where this conversation is going. You’re going to try and get in at SHIELD, aren’t you?”
"What are your thoughts on that?"
"Nope, just know how to bend a lock pin to my will." Yuri arched a brow, his attention wandering around the kitchen as a second thought, "You’re rebuilding SHIELD … you need people you can trust. I want in."
And there it is. Phil stopped his jaw from dropping open just in time. “You’re here for a job? And what the hell makes you think I trust you?”
"... I made my way in here without raising your suspicions and you're still alive, for one?" A snort of derision echoed back off the cupboards, his gaze wandering back to the mane, "Do you seriously think, after what they did to Jamie and my mother - that I'm still going to be toting the Department X flag?"
"You really need to get better locks, Coulson."
"Jesus — do you people evaporate into smoke and creep under doorframes?" He barely has his tie on. It’s far too early in the day for whatever this is about. "Something I can do for you?" And under his breath, he adds: "At eight in the morning, in my kitchen…"
"Nope, just know how to bend a lock pin to my will." Yuri arched a brow, his attention wandering around the kitchen as a second thought, "You're rebuilding SHIELD ... you need people you can trust. I want in."
"You really need to get better locks, Coulson."
"Well look at that … she made a funny."
"I’m hilarious. What have you been thinking about?"
"You think you're hilarious ... work. I've been thinking about work a lot."
"So … I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately."
"I knew I smelled something burning."
"Well look at that ... she made a funny."
"So ... I've been doing a lot of thinking lately."
"You know our door is always open, sweetheart … and you know we’ll always be on your side. Always.”
“I don’t need you to take my side, Dad. I need you to support my decision to take the transfer in LA.”
"I'd prefer for you not to go, but I understand why you need to."
