Why do we love the songs we listened to at 16 the most?

This was a saved draft from over 4 years ago. I finished it with my present thoughts.

Think back to when you were 16. I bet you can easily remember what you listened to. My mixed CDs consisted of Something Corporate, The Starting Line, The Academy Is.. and many more emo/punk bands. I was wondering, why at that age do kids build such a strong connection with the songs, lyrics, and artists. What drives a kid to make that connection and why do we lose it when we grow up?

I still listen to music. I still go to shows. But there isn’t an artist that I’ve recently discovered that I would put over Something Corporate. Will I ever? Probably not.

Punchline: Not Afraid

For this week’s Sunday Night Music Club, we’re bringing you a track from Punchline’s first full-length album on Fueled By Ramen. ‘Not Afraid’ is the second track on Action which the band recorded in Chicago with Sean O’Keefe who had previously produced Fall Out Boy’s Take This To Your Grave.

Punchline later released the album 37 Everywhere on Fueled By Ramen in 2006 before starting their own label, Modern Short Stories, and releasing two more full-length albums: Just Say Yes and most recently, Delightfully Pleased. Check out modernshortstories.com for more from Punchline!
