WINNER - David Loydon - Iron Skeleton by CityCo Manchester on Flickr.
Winner of the Urban Canal Competition - totally agree, this photograph is just fantastic.
Studio Photography
Had another session training and experimenting at Andrew Wood Photography - using various lights and backgrounds. All three of us got a lot out of it, and we now feel confident to invite 'models' to build up our portfolio.
Photos from the second day of John Brewer’s course! I mostly did images on tin. It was a lot of fun and interesting, really looking forward to doing more wet plate collodion. I really recommend the course, you get to produce a lot of plates!
Wet plate from the previous day, spray painted...
Today I did the first day of John Brewer’s excellent course in wet plate collodion at his studio.
These are some of the large format cameras he had.
Lenses!
Here is the first image someone took of me. Behind it you can see the one I took of him. It has a tear in it as I didn’t do...
Collecting lots of ways in which to do a Photo-transfer
Bumped into a couple of friends today, and by pure chance, came by a great piece of information regarding Photo-transfers - how to get them onto absolutely any surface, and make them become part of it, which is just so exciting in it's vast array of possibilities. And then, when I got to Hot Bed Press, Jane Elliot showed me how to flip images in Photo-shop, so that they get transferred the right way round. I'm a big fan of 'Augenblick Photo' on Etsy, but want to use this process in a very different way.
not sure what kind of animal/monster this is.. maybe a mongoose? or maybe some other kind of small mammal.
whatever it is, it will cover you with tiny bites :)
Very cute print by Samuel Horsley.

First Portrait Shoot
My top two:
6 weeks of all kinds
A busy time, sorting out the studio and re-organising it, to tie in with moving house - making it workable and deciding what to do where. Recuperating from a hectic term, even though I do less school work and more freelancing these days, the actual house move, and a lot of photography and research.
On days that I can't get to the studio, I spend looking up artists I like, putting together mood boards, researching techniques etc, or else gathering visual information by drawing or taking photographs. Etsy is starting to make some money, and everything is set up to work by adding updates - little and often must be the key. Have branched out into putting together information on techniques on Pinterest, not just images; not just for my own work, but also to use as teaching resources.
I also did my first portrait during this time, entered a photography competition and learned how to use a photography studio at 'Andrew Wood Photography'. Finally, a photographing a lot of products for 'English Regalia' - and experimenting a lot with a 50mill prime lens. High on my wishlist.
