After what Shinobu Kochou said to Giyuu, he can't help but be bothered by it. Although he exudes a rather oblivious and relaxed aura, he continues to bring up Shinobu's words after every mission they accomplish together. Shinobu's fed up, but Giyuu's determined to change her mind.

“Do I make you sad, Shinobu?”
Said girl shook her head even if he wasn’t looking and her eyes soon glazed over with tears, “It’s not you,” She insisted, “It’s never you. It’s just the circumstances of our life together.”
‘Our life’. Though she knew the implication behind her wording, Shinobu was so wrung out by her emotions, she didn’t bother putting the line between them. It had blurred a long time ago—they were both painfully aware of that—and she didn’t have the energy to reestablish it.
“I promised you that we’d find one another in the next one,” Giyuu responded, his tongue feeling leaden, “In the next life; in our next life.” He added.
“I can hardly wait.”
“I intend on keeping that promise.”
“I… Yeah, I understand.”
“Just… a little bit longer.” He stated, uncertain as to whether that was supposed to be discouraging or assuring.
Another silence crept between them. It was all so exhausting.
“Giyuu…” The insect pillar called out to him in a whisper, almost like she was afraid to break the calmness in the room, her face now wet with tears.
“What is it?”
Giyuu turned his head to glance at her, and immediately froze when he caught sight of the wetness of her cheeks. Her bottom lip trembled and she let out a sobby laugh, shutting her eyes and allowing more tears to stream down her face.
“I love you.”
In a split second, the dark-haired boy was out of her lap and pulling her into his chest, disregarding his body’s fatigue and soreness. Her shoulders rose and fell vigorously as her crying worsened, and he couldn’t do anything but merely exist in that moment for her.
He understood that she was scared. He was able to feel it emanating off of her once he awoke. It was like a prickly feeling scattered across his entire body. It was overwhelming and infuriating.
And it was also his fault.
“I love you, Shinobu,” He spoke into her hair at the top of her head, “I love you so much.”
“I can’t let you die first. Please don’t do that. Please promise me.”
“I - I won’t. I promise.”
“And please don’t forget me.” Shinobu wept, crumpling his haori in her small hands and crying into his chest with such volume, Giyuu was sure everyone in the mansion could hear.
“I would never forget you.”
“I don’t want to forget you.”
“I have faith that you won’t.”
