Big Week Ahead

Big week ahead. Headed to Calif to visit the always fun Lucky Star Tiki Bar in Menlo Park, and hang with good friends WIll and Kat.

Also while there, I’ll be attending my first Bay Area Maker Faire. I’ve wanted to go the this MF for years, and work always interfered. This year I get there, and I think it’s gonna be awesome.

I'm not sure if this makes it better, or more inexcusable, but here's the wired speeds in the function room we're using.

I think I'll stop ranting about this now.

Wifi/Internet update : working now.

So after reporting the poor wifi/Internet performance for the second time it suddenly started working. The speeds are still pretty dismal, but it's working.

Update on my hotel internet/wifi issues. This measurement is on wifi. The up/down speeds are the same, but the ping is AWESOME! (sic)

(and BTW, what are the odds that two tests, 12 hours apart, would produce EXACTLY the same up/down speeds?)

Hotel internet. And THIS is not wifi. It's HARD-WIRED!

Back in the early days of internet radio I was a big fan of Radio Paradise.

It's been years since I listened regularly, but today I needed a source to test my sound system, and tuned them in.

Bill & Rebecca were/are internet radio pioneers, and Bill's voice on the stream just now brought back some very nice memories. And their music playlist is still awesome.

I need to make them a regular part of my life again.

Note to self: Listener supported, so send them some money too.

NSA Hacked?

Front page story in the Wall Street Journal this morning about how the hi-tech power supplies for the NSA's monster new spy data center have been mysteriously failing. (Apparently pretty spectacularly too, lightning bolts are involved.) And there's a big argument among all the players about what is the cause and what is the fix.

How do you read, or write for that matter, a story like this and not think Stuxnet? The revenge of Stuxnet?

Open message to Google Chrome

For the record.

I have been a devoted Google Chrome user since it first appeared. There are many things about it that I like a lot. And I hope to continue using it. But make no mistake...

I pledge that I will never knowingly use any browser which implements any of this HTML5 DRM foolishness. Don't do it. I will switch to Firefox, and never look back.
