Ethiopia bound tomorrow, to go find some more plants (and birds). #fieldwork #conservation #foodsecurity #Kew
Wellness = Glow / physical pain + mental pain. Golden advice at #Explore2017. (at Royal Geographical Society (with IBG))
Here we go again! #Explore2017 #fieldwork
Behind the scenes shot of @mark_scherz and @falconproductions out in Madagascar. We'd often be out till midnight collecting specimens, and then mark would stay up even later to process them all, while we collapsed in a heap in our tents. Up at dawn for breakfast and to do it all over again. #conservation #fieldwork #madlifeontheedge #madagascar
Big thank you to the guys @naturespy for sorting us out with the latest camera traps so quickly. Brilliant team, tons of knowledge, worth supporting! We'll be putting these through their paces for an unusual application in Ethiopia! #kew #ecology #cameratraps #conservation
If I were a robin, I too would want to live in Kew's Palm House. Lovely song reverberating inside. #kew #birds #ecology
Some bromeliads just don't look real. No filter, just nature. #botany #rbgkew #conservation
Years ago I the spent a whole winter studying cedar pollen. Sounds a bit wired, but in a convoluted way it all related back to conservation and forest fragmentation. At the time I was on the look out for cedars any where I went, collecting a sample here or there. These days I still can't help but notice them anywhere I go. #conservation #botany #fieldwork
A mighty fine day at RBGKew today, planning for more fieldwork in Ethiopia. #ethiopia #kew #crops #africa #foodsecurity #conservation
Frost damaged Ensete leaf in the University garden. This year, further North they even had hail which shredded leaves. #crops #africa #ethiopia #foodsecurity
Leopard prints strolling past Ensete plants in Hwassa University campus, Ethiopia! #wildlife #crops #africa #foodsecurity
Ethiopia also has crazy high Yam diversity, and for some varieties, this is what the inside looks like. Tastes good too apparently! #foodsecurity #africa #crops #kew #ethiopia
Dr Wilkin in the field next to a staggeringly enormous Ensete plant. Planning to measure the leaves? I think we better think it out again... #ethiopia #africa #crops (at Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region)
Getting to know the local Ethiopian tipple. #africa #beer
A hop down to Hwassa further along the great Rift Valley to meet more project partners. #ethiopia #africa #enset
Getting in amongst the Ensete fields South of Addis Ababa. This wonderful family answered all our strange questions and fed us fresh beans before we headed on our way. The plants are so huge, harvesting and digging them up must be a mammoth job! #ensete #crops #ethiopianfood #ethiopia #kew
