Thanks!....I got a number of mixed reactions to the idea so I created a new blog Valenrue 20....ill be using both! This one for Janelskiy and that one for Valenrue! I might start posting pics on that one. But I will continue to write Janelskiy too!

I Need You

Hi Guys! So I know it’s been a while since I posted...I have just been super busy. I received a prompt a while back asking me to write about Janel and Val telling Ava why they are not together anymore. I really liked it but I got another idea branching off of it so I ran with it. I hope you guys like it. Sorry it’s so long. 

“Are you ready to tell her?”

“As ready as i’ll ever be...Aves! Can you come here angel?”

Ava was sitting on the couch watching blues clues but she came over obeying her dad.

“Sit down sweetheart.”

Ava climbed up on the chair and janel and val took seats far from each other.

Val cleared his throat. “Ava we want to start by saying that we both love you very much and nothing will ever change that. Yes?”

“Yes Daddy.”

Janel grabbed her daughter’s hand. “Ava do you know what romantic love is?”

“Yes. It’s when you will do anything for a person...Just like you love daddy.”

Janel choked back a sob of tears. “You see sweetie, that’s the thing...me and daddy once loved each other very much but as time goes on we’re just not happy anymore.”

“I don’t get it.”

Val jumped. “Me and mommy once cared so much for each other which is why we have you but while we still care for each other, it’s not in the same way.”

Janel cut in again. “So Ava, Daddy is going to move out. You will still see him all the time, I promise. He just won’t be living here. I know you’re too young to understand but do you know what happening?”

“I don’t want him to leave!” Ava started breaking down in tears.

“I know baby, I know but sometimes things just don’t work out. And i promise you you are going to see him all the time. Things are going to be no different except that daddy is not living here.”

That was two years ago. 2 weeks before Val moved out and they had officially separated. Val and Janel had been dating seriously for about 9 months when Janel found out she was pregnant with Ava.They never got married but lived together and raised their child together.  But things slowly progressed downwards. After the separation they had come to an agreement that Ava would live with Janel but every other weekend -she would spend with Val. Ava was now 6 and Janel and Val got along well enough to communicate about what was going on in their daughter's life as well as each of their own. They have now been separated for 2 years and Ava is 6 years old.

“Avaaaa come here sweetheart!” Janel was fiddling around in the kitchen cleaning the dishes from dinner.

Ava came quickly lugging a school bag twice the size of her. “Ready to go Mommy!”

Janel wiped her hands on the kitchen towel and grabbed her car keys “Alright Let’s go.”

Janel spent the car ride to his house thinking about her recent breakup with her boyfriend, Liam- and what she was going to do the next day. As soon as they got there Janel and Ava got out of the car and Janel reached down for her hand. Together they walked to Val’s apartment door and Janel knocked lightly.

When the door opened a blonde woman stood in the doorway. “Oh Hi Ava.” She said to the six year old.

“Hi Angela.” Ava turned back towards her mom and Janel bent down so she was at eye level. “Okay. Be good Ava. Mommy loves you very much. I’ll pick you up on Monday.”

“Love you too mommy.” Ava threw her arms around her mom and walked through the front door dropping her bag by all the shoes. Val came into view and stepped in front of Angela.

“Thanks for dropping her off.”

“You welcome.”

They stared at each other in awkward silence for a minute and Janel brushed her hair behind her ear. “Umm I’ll be going.”

“Yea. Bye J.”

Janel turned her head back to him surprised that he would call her by the nickname he did when they were dating. She smiled. “Bye V.”

Soon after Janel left, Angela went home. Ava spent the afternoon coloring pictures. Val unpacked Ava’s bag and then sat on the couch to admire his little girl so engrossed in her work.  Val cooked dinner for Ava- mac and Cheese with chicken nuggets and sat with her while she ate. Ava took a bite of a chicken nugget and put it down on the plate.

“Daddy?” “Yea babe?” “Do you love Angela?”

the question took Val off guard. He hadn’t really expected his 6 year old daughter to ask that. He cleared his throat. “Umm why?” “I don’t know. I was just wondering.”

“And what made you think of that.”

“Well the other week when Mommy broke up with Liam-her boyfriend-” “Wait. Mommy broke up with Liam?”

“Yea and I asked her why and she said that they just really didn’t love each other. So I wanted to know if you loved Angela or if you were going to break up with her.”

Val smiled at his daughter. “Eat your chicken nuggets and stop being so smart.

After putting Ava to bed, Val sat down on the couch with a beer and hand and watched tv. He pulled his phone out of his back pocket and dialed Angela’s number.

“Hey babe.” He heard her voice from the other end.

“Hey. Listen. Do you have a minute to talk?” “Yea sure whats up.” “I was sitting here with my daughter tonight and we were talking and she asked me if I love you” “Oh yeah?” “Yea and I don’t want to hurt your feelings but I don’t know if I have those kind of feelings for you.”

“What?” “You’re smart, you’re intelligent and good to my daughter but-”

“But, I’m not Janel.”

“What?” “I’m not Janel-who is clearly the woman you are in love with.”

“Umm” Val scratched his head.

“You don’t have to say anything because you know its true. Thanks for being honest and not leading me on. Shows what kind of guy you are.”

“You okay?”

“I’m good. It was only a matter of time. I knew it. You just needed to figure it out. Tell her before you lose her.”

“I don’t know what to say.” “Don’t say anything. Send Ava my love. Goodnight.”

“Nite.” He hit end and stared at her caller id picture until it disappeared. He swung his phone around in his hand marinating in his thoughts. He then sat up straight and dialed her number.

“Val? Is everything okay with Ava?” He heard her panicked voice from the other end.

“Oh yea. Everything’s fine. Ava was just hungry and I wasn’t sure what I should give her.”

“Umm this isn’t the first week she has stayed with you?” “Yeah but i don’t know. She’s changing. I don’t know what’s good for her.” “let me talk to her.”

“She’s sleeping.” “I thought you just said she was hungry.”

“Ummm. You got me.”

“Now why are you really calling?”

“Just wanted to talk to someone.”

“Angela’s not around?” “She went home when Ava got here”

“Ohh.”

“Umm. so Ava told me you broke up with Derek.”

“Um yeah. I did...I’m sorry this is weird. Just having such a casual conversation with each other.

“Yeah...well goodnight”

“Nite.”

Val clicked the end button on his phone and fell asleep thinking about her.

Things went like that for a while. They would have a lot of late night talks, sometimes talking till 1 in the morning. One night Val was sitting on the couch and Ava was curled up in his lap when his phone started to ring. It was her.

“Hey”

“Hi.”

“You have to see our daughter right now. She is wiped out, laying across me.”

“She’s such a heavy sleeper. Gets that from her dad.”

“Yea…”

After sitting in silence for a minute. “Would you maybe want to come over and have a drink? I’m here all alone and could use some company.”

After hesitating Janel said yes. Val lifted Ava up and carried her to her room, tucking her beneath the blankets, turned on the nightlight and gently closed the door halfway. Janel was over within 15 minutes.  When she got there Val poured her a glass of wine and they moved over to the couch. They reminisced about the early years with Ava and told each other stories of their adventures with her.

“And then she’s like mommy, I really want to marry him and I was like you got a lot of time to decide who you want to marry.” Val smiled and nodded looking into her eyes. He was lost in his own thoughts.

“Where did we ever go wrong J?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean where did we ever go wrong? I wanted to marry you and spent my life with you.

“Ahh. I don’t know. We’re just not good for each other.”

“But maybe we can be?..I love you” He leaned closer to her and gently pressed his lips against her. She pulled away quickly. “I dont know V-” Her speech was interrupted by his lips pressed against hers again but this time she kissed him back. When he noticed her return the gesture he deepened the kiss.”I love you too” She murmured.  She laid down on her back with him on top of her. He kissed her fully and moved down to her neck and started making his way to her chest when she cut him off “Baby, Baby baby-” She said as she tried to catch her breath.

“What’s the matter babe?”

Janel nudged her head to the hallway. “Our daughter is in there and she can literally walk out any second.”

Val nodded and climbed off of her. He stood up, straightened himself out and reached his hand out to her. She put her hand in his and stood up. He led her to his bedroom. Val shut the door behind them and sat down on the bed, Janel climbed in his lap resting her arms around his neck. She pressed her lips against his and he murmured against them “Better?”

“Much better” She unbuttoned his shirt and pushed it off him, grabbing it and throwing it to the side. He pulled her shirt over her head and pressed gentle kisses to the crevice of her neck. She pushed him on his back and unclasped her bra, throwing it to the side. He flipped her over so he was now on top of her. The rest of their clothes flew off, Val kissed her over and over and they made love repeatedly that night. Janel woke up early the next morning and gave Val a kiss on the forehead before getting up. Sh put on a loose t-shirt of his and valentin sweatpants and headed to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. As she was pouring the coffee into a mug she heard Eva's voice. “Daddy..Daddy?” She turned around to see Ava walking towards her while rubbing her eyes. Once she put her hands down Ava looked confused. “Mommy?..what are you doing here?...and why are you wearing daddy’s clothes?”

“Ummm”

Val walked in the kitchen with no shirt and sweatpants on as if on cue. “Well Aves, mommy’s washing machine broke and she really needed the shirt she was wearing clean so she came over her and borrowed the washing machine and I gave her some of my clothes to wear while they were washing.

“Oh that makes sense” She put her arms out to indicate she wanted Val to pick her up. He met her request and gave her a kiss on the forehead. “Morning Princess.” He set her down. “Can I go lay on the couch in the den and watch tv daddy?”

“Sure, let me get it set up for you.” The two of them walked down the hallway and walked into the room next to Val’s. He turned the tv on for her, wrapped her in a blanket and made his way back to the kitchen. He saw Janel leaning over the counter taking a sip of her coffee and twirled her around to face him. “Well that happened.”

“Yea it did. It was nice.” She stood on her tip toes to kiss him lightly. He returned the gesture then walked over the cabinet to get a mug for his coffee. He took a sip and then went to hug Janel from behind. He wrapped his arms around her and rested his head in her neck.

“I missed you so much.”

“I missed you too babe. Are we really going to make a go of this again?”

“I would like to.”

“So let’s do it.”

Over the next few weeks, they kept their relationship personal. They had’nt even told Ava yet. They just had their secret rendezvous at each others houses. Ava had come close to catching them a few times. Like when Janel had to hide under the bed, or Val had to hide in her closet. One day when Ava was at school, Janel laid curled up in Val’s arms on the couch.

“When are we going to tell our kid about this?” Janel asked him.

“What do you mean?”

“Knowing that we are back together would make her happier than anything. And we’ve have been going for a couple weeks and we’re good. So I don’t think it would be a mistake to tell her.” “Then let’s tell her….we’ll take her out for ice cream tonight and we’ll tell her.”

“Well with ice cream and this news, it might be the best night of her life.”

At exactly three-o'clock Val and Janel went to pick up Ava at school. They walked up to her classroom door. Ava came running to the door with her oversized backpack on.

“I get mommy and  daddy today...this is the best day ever!!”

Val leaned into Jane's ear. “It’s about to get a whole lot better.”

Ava grabbed Val with one hand and Janel with the other hand and they walked back to the car. Once they all got settled in and seatbelts were on, Janel and Val turned back to Ava.

“Aves, how would you like some ice-cream right now?” “Ice cream?” She said excitedly as her eyebrows raised. “I would loveeeeee ice cream.”

“Well then we’re going.”

The three of them drove to the nearest ice cream parlor and found a table in the back. Ava ordered a sundae bigger than her head and Janel and Val each got one scoop of their favorite flavor. “so, Ava-Daddy and I have something we want to tell you.”

“Ok!” Ava said as she put a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth.

“You know how mommy was dating Derek and I was dating Angela.”

“Yea I miss them.”

“Understandable, but how would you feel if I married mommy and mommy married me?”

Ava dropped her spoon and her eyes widened. “What!”

Janel eyes widened and she turned to him “What?”

“Would you like that Ava?” “Mommy and Daddy are getting married?”

“One sec Aves. I’ll let you know.”

Val took Jane's hand to lead her out of her seat. Once she was standing, Val pulled a small tiffany box from his jacket pocket and lowered himself to one knee. He turned his head to his daughter “Come here Aves.”

Ava obliged and Val spoke to her again “Can u hold this out to mommy, just like this.” He showed her how to hold it.

“Yes daddy!” Ava held the box just like he showed her.

“Janel. I am never happier than I am when I’m with you and I know we have had our issues but that’s what being in love is. Cherishing each other through the ups and the downs. I’m in love with you and I’m never letting that go again. Will you Marry Me?”

“Yes Baby. Yes!” He stood up and she wrapped her arms around his waist. He kissed her and Ava jumped up and down. He grabbed the box out of Ava’s hand and wiggled the ring out. He gently pushed it on her finger. They pulled Ava into the hug with them.

Val whispered in Janel’s ear. “I love you and I love our family.”
