wait, it wasn’t a mto? sry I’m not familiar w these parts of tennis rules. but i think most ppl r taking it as mto, i’ve seen gill gross said the time he went backstage amounted to what’s the usual time allowed for mto, so it prolly is a mto. I’m not sure what aurelie did was correct or not also?? is that how usual procedure goes?
abt the heat thing, unfortunately, it’ll be hard to shake that off in short term, bc there’s no other opp consistently beating him aside from his own body. also bc it’s always spectacle and drama whenever stuff like this happened, not helped by some conspiracy theorists in media box either 😑
even tho what jannik said makes sense to me logically like there’s no way his body would go out at 2hr mark by heat alone (lest we forget, rg, the most physically grueling slam, is his main goal 😓), it IS a combination of things. and given his personality, when it comes to stuff like why he lost a match or tennis in general, i’d figure like 90% of the time u can trust he’ll say what he actually thinks. Yet there’re some interpreting it as oh he wouldn’t want the fans and media to associate this w heat likee bruhhh...
i’ve been sitting w this thought that it all goes back to the contamination case and how it somehow just ended up being like either u believe him or u don’t despite the itia ruling & wada chief saying it’s not doping. If sth, anything really, happens, ppl r consciously or unconsciously looking for “unfair” or “bad” whatever to latch onto as if it’s proof that “he’s a cheater” let’s go burn that wada building down once the rule change comes into effect mars ☺️
i thought what agassi said is very constructive tho. we don’t know what the illness is and i’m sure he’s figuring it out how to eliminate it. but this is not the first time he comes on court feeling sick, isn’t it? so his team should have contigency plan a, plan b for his recovery process during the changeovers for times like these. until he can stop the recurring illness ofc. It’s heartbreaking and shocking for fans (like just fking 4 more points godddd) but it would be unacceptable for most who’ve been/are high-performing athletes. i’m sure he’ll learn from this and this might be bit of a hot take, i’m now kinda glad he played till the end and not retire.
this basically becomes an essay 😭😭😭 i’m so sorry, i hope u don’t mind 😔👉👈 I have no one to talk abt tennis. hoping jakub wins tdy 🤞missing sinnerball alrdy tho a monthhh ughhh
Hi anon! No, I don't mind the long asks. Okay so the rules are: you, as a player, can call the physio at any time during a game if you and the umpire suspect you are developing an acute condition (for example, dehydration, but not only that). At that point, the physio will come out and do a medical evaluation, which is NOT an mto, and determine if you can receive an mto or not. Some rules from the ITF rules and procedures for officials.
Now IF the physio decides that you have an acute condition, then the MTO starts, with its usual time limit. I just rematched the moment Jannik went off court and I can confirm what I remembered: at no point the usual mto timer was started, and the chair umpire specifically said "ladies and gentlemen, Jannik Sinner is leaving the court to receive an off-court medical evaluation".
I see a lot of talk about these "MTOs", I remember there was a lot of talk about them in Australia in 2025 or even Wimbledon in 2024. Why do they last more than the regular 3 minutes MTO? And the answer is that there is a medical evaluation to have first (where they usually take the players blood pressure, the temperature, etc.) and THEN they start the treatment. That's what happens with every mto, even the ones because of muscle strain et similia: before the mto timer starts, the player usually informs the physio of what is hurting, THEN the 3 minutes count down starts. That's a medical evaluation too, even if they obviously are shorter because you don't have testing to do. It's honestly always a bit surprising to see media people not being aware of this.
About his body, idk, he has struggled with those illnesses, but I think he completely deserved his last 2 slam losses before this one, his opponents played better, and it had nothing to do with physical condition. Of course this one hurts because it was so close. I'm hopeful they will do anything to find out what the problem was.
