1. The proportions are a tad bit off because I ran out of room on de sketchbook. 2. This yellow is a bit much but I didn't save the Photoshop file so there's no turning back/ I'm lazy
I had the honor of creating this collage illustration for a very moving story via @autostraddle . āI couldnāt afford to go home, but it was common knowledge among the many international students that, technically, one could remain in the country beyond the visa validity period as long as you were still enrolled in school. So I did.ā-Confessions of an Undocumented African Immigrant https://www.autostraddle.com/confessions-of-an-undocumented-african-immigrant-389416/

Another unfinished video fresh out of the oven of disappointment. ā¹ļø I haven't had much luck with filming stuff lately, though I thought the šSkittlesš would help!! šMy camera started playing games with me, so I had to record the rest of this time lapse holding my phone above my head, leaving my other hand to scramble for utensils. š I am very dissatisfied with the finished product, so I will just leave you with this short clip, my darlings. š It's easy to get frustrated in situations like this, but it's better to stay positive and try to see these mistakes as learning opportunities. šø P.S. By the end of the entire time lapse, all Skittles somehow disappeared...š #helpme
I spent a great deal of time last week creating a tutorial about digitally coloring sketches. It was straight štrashšso I'm going to rethink the whole thing and try again soon. This was the drawing I had made for the video š#jizzjazz #crusty

Today marks one week š (at New York, New York)
Iām in the final stages of tweaking the sketchbook tour video. Iāve changed quite a few things than what I proposed previously. Itās fucked up my sleeping schedule, alright! I went to sleep yesterday at 11:20 AM and slept for about two hours or so. 10 minutes maximum was the goal, but itās currently clocked at over 12 minutes. I keep wondering, is it worth it? And I think, yes; because I am learning.Ā It occurred to me that I may be obsessing over this project in a desperate attempt to distract myself from the emotional stress of leaving my family in a few days to live in another state. Though I think I am making a big mistake, it has been my dream to live and work in New York.Ā

Sketchbook Tour Preparation
Concept
A few weeks ago while cleaning out my room for my upcoming move, I went to my Instagram story to share a few pages from old, dusty sketchbooks I found. I then had the idea to film a tour of these books. After asking for feedback on the idea, folks on Instagram kindly shared that they would like to see a progression of my content and skill from old to new.Ā
Technicalities
Itās most appropriate that this video is filmed from an overhead view. Because I donāt have an extension rod for my tripod, I bought a smaller tripod a few hours ago in hopes that it will provide an open and clear perspective of an entire sketchbook. I did a test shot with a small journal and though the tripod legs were caught in the shot, I was able to zoom in just enough to have a good shot in Premiere Pro. I JUST now realized that because my sketchbooks are of varying sizes, the test I just conducted may not work well for all books. This is something Iāll need to consider- perhaps larger sketchbooks will just be cropped. I wanted to have negative space on the right side of the shot for text to provide additional commentary. The next step is to organize my sketchbooks chronologically. Iām a bit nervous about how interesting orĀ āgoodā my drawings are, especially in regards to older ones. I originally thought it could be fun to make fun of old drawings, but I realize this could be insensitive to other artists. I think allowing myself to be vulnerable in sharing my unfinished work and doodles Iām not too proud of will be beneficial. I need to be careful not to ramble too much when sharing stories behind the drawings.Ā Mood Iām hoping to film this afternoon in my room.Ā Though I considered doing a voiceover while flipping through the books, Iām more interested in this being conversational and will record commentary in real-time. My main concern with this is my lack of a proper microphone.Ā
I might try my hand at brief storyboarding before filming. In doing so, Iāll arrange the music and visuals. This is going to be a relaxing and fun summery tour. As Iāll be talking in most of the video, the music will need to be instrumental, so not to conflict too much with my speaking.Ā
I love doing introductions for my videos. Not when Iām talking in front of the camera. Iām very camera shy, even when I have control. For this intro, Iām currently thinking bright and sunny music like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HRX3SMy8FEĀ
Perhaps the intro consists of stacking and compiling sketchbooks and a few other related tasks while this song plays. In a recent video, I put the needle on my record player down before a song started, which I felt was playful but a tad trite. This needs to feel honest and invitational, as the feeling of the video will be casual and conversational.Ā The typography will be playful with vibrant color. Iām a bit lazy with animations and have no idea what I should incorporate for this video.Ā
I havenāt done a good job of filling up my sketchbooks and want to take this an opportunity to encourage myself to sketch more. I hope I donāt overanalyze this and suck out all the fun from it. I started recording videos not only because of the opportunity to develop my video editing and speaking skills, but because itās fun!
Oh, this is off-topic but UMMMM Eric AndrĆ© now follows me on Instagram. I have so much love and respect for him and what he does, so it means a lot to me. I still canāt believe it! I saw that he viewed my recent Instagram story so now I feel a little nervous about what I share...This might mean no more crying selfies or depressive introspective rants on my Instagram story....lol.Ā
