Born in Vienna on April 5, 1916, he grew up partly in Austria and Hungary, becoming fluent in German. Commissioned as an artillery lieutenant in 1939, he served on the Eastern Front (1941–1942), earned promotions and decorations (including the German Iron Cross), and participated in the organization of Hungarian assault artillery units in 1943.
In late summer 1944, disillusioned with Horthy’s government’s attempts to exit the war, he contacted the Arrow Cross movement. After Szálasi’s takeover on October 15, 1944, he became his adjutant.
Captured by American forces and extradited to Hungary in October 1945, he was tried for war crimes, receiving a 10-year prison sentence. In September 1946, he escaped from the prison.
He fled to Austria, lived in the French occupation zone, and later became active in the émigré Hungarian nationalist movement. He studied economics in Innsbruck (earning a degree and doctorate), worked in various jobs. He lived in Salzburg, Graz, and Klagenfurt. He died on May 10, 1992, in Klagenfurt at age 76.
