The real me...

Some things I don't talk about much, not even with Chuck.

My family were killed in Vietnam due to the war...It still hurts me sooo much, but nobody can see this...

Chuck heard me mention it once, and I think he knew it hurt me, so he let it go.

I love that guy, and you know I think ge loves me too, otherwise he wouldn't still be by my side...

My Mum and Dad are finding things tough over here, no family, no friends, and definitely no fun...

You see my Dad, he's very clever man, but coz' of this he is picked on, same with Mum.

She was attacked at the hall by stupid, stinky miners and my Dad's garden was ripped tho shreds by them too. Humiliated and embarrassed. This ripped our family, our dignity to shreds!

Why?

I can't see what we ever did to them. I get we different, but we don't deserve this crap; nobody does!!!

Things may change, who knows?

I dunno, sometimes I feel I am a target...

Why always the name calling and teasing?

I don't see why.

My whole family are nice people, we mind our own business, we work very hard...

These town people of Corrigan don't understand us. I know the war is still going, but just coz' we Vietnamese doesn't mean we gonna' kill everyone!!

I too hate war. My Dad, my Mum, we all hate war. It's wrong and shouldn't happen, but we all are trying so hard just to fit in here...Things shouldn't be this way, I mean haven't my family had enough loss and pain already?

Give us a break, people don't really know how much this hurts me. I cover it up by spending time with Chuck, training at the nets, and spending most of my time watching, and learning from the great Doug Walters...

People think 'Kong' is easy to target, and yes, I maybe, but I can't let them see it hurts me. I keep fighting, smiling, bowling in the nets, I keep on training, trying for one day, maybe one day soon, I can be accepted, and liked by these people...

I really hate when they say 'Ah, me so solly', I have more brains in my little pinky finger than all those idiots combined! Like really, so dumb!

All bigots...

By laughing things off and always mucking around with silly old Chuck, I sometimes can forget. Chuck is a great friend, he makes me feel good inside, and treats me as an equal; like I am no different to him...

But sadly. Not the case for everyone, always treated differently, always made fun of, always laughed at...

Cricket is a funny game...

People say you have to take your chances, and my friends, I, Jeffrey Lu took mine! One minute, 12th man and the next, I'm Doug Walter's smashing runs for an awesome team win! Gooooo...Me!!

Some even say that I hit the ball so hard, I actually cracked the seam...

When I was told I was in the team coz' some guy got appendicitis I was over the moon! I told Chuck straight away, I was very happy, all my dreams had come true, I had finally been included for once in my life...

I devoured the bowling attack, onside, offside; didn't matter. Jeffrey Lu on debut was in cracking form and I could not be stopped...43 not out, that's the stuff legends are made of.

Australia, remember the name- J.Lu (on debut!), a Dougie Walters equal if you will...

I hope that this minor victory means more games for me and more wins too. Maybe I'll finally be accepted as an equal. A permanent member of the Corrigan cricketers, and maybe this will ease the tough times that I constantly get. I mean yes, I'm Vietnamese, but it doesn't mean that I should miss out or be targeted. Who knows now, it could be J.Lu top scoring every week.

Cricket is a great game, it gives me the chance to fit in, be one of the boys for sure and I hope to been seen as an equal in this town sometime soon.

In the long run, there is not much discrimination against superior talent.
