"Fancy shit," repeated Ber, amused, and he snorted lightly at that.

He and Simba were not 'fancy shit' people. Well, they went to fancy events sometimes but Ber hated them. Simba liked them fine but that's because Simba could go anywhere and be happy. He was the light in every room.

Their natural state of being though? Definitely not fancy shit.

"I mean--guess never say never." They began to climb the stairs. They'd have to go up another one to get to the ballroom. "Maybe we'll do some kinda fundraising thing at some point, but I mean, no plans for balls right now. Unless you're keeping something from me." He said, raising his eyebrows at Simba.

Simba laughed at "fancy shit" because--yeah, no. They weren't that fancy. Though, okay, maybe Simba would miss the fancy galas in Swynlake and try to convince their new friends to do at least once. Maybe they'd throw a prom! That'd be fun.

But no--

"Nah," Simba said, slinging his arm around Ber as they knocked against each other going up the stairs towards said ballroom. "Though, I do think we should throw like...dance parties. They don't have to be fancy. We could install a disco ball or something. I could teach tango lessons."

To be fair, to Jenny, dinner parties were fancy shit to her.

She wasn't about to have one of those anytime soon and that felt big and lofty and unknown.

"Do one of those dance until you can't fundraiser things. I don't know what you would fund-raise for but..." Jenny shrugged.

Yeah, Berlioz wasn't 'bright' and 'airy' when it came to his creative vibes. His music wasn't particularly depressing or anything though. He just created better when he felt like he was safe, and the things in this room made him feel safe, yeah? Like the rest of the world was a thousand feet above him and he was a mole, burrowed under the surface, doing his thing.

Ber smirked. "Thanks. I mean, hopefully that's a compliment, eh?" said Berlioz. "And right down the hall is the game room too, but these walls are insulated so I shouldn't hear anything if Simba's got like twenty people over going nuts on the foosball."

Simba was pleased, puffing out his chest a little. After all, even though Ber had had full creative control over this room, of course, Simba had still implemented it. He'd instructed the contractors--done research on the best kind of sound proofing. He was pouring everything into this house, to make it nice. For himself, for Ber, for their family and friends.

So, he couldn't stop grinning, whenever he showed it off.

"If you're working, we won't be down here anyway, babe," he promised. "I'll make everyone hang out with me in the ballroom. We gotta get as much use out of it as we can, eh? And Strawberry prefers it to the dungeon--" what Simba had taken to calling the cellar "--anyway."

"Whadda you wanna see next? Kitchen? Garden? Ballroom? Guest rooms?"

"Ballroom?" Jenny shouldn't be surprised and yet she kind of was. "Are you guys planning on holding balls? Well I guess you said dinner parties and fancy shit huh?"

She still had trouble accepting that maybe she could use the guest rooms. So she wouldn't be asking about those.

"Oh yeah, definitely. It's nice and small-- which I like, I think the acoustics are gonna be great," he mentioned as he started down the stairs to the basement

They creaked with every step, a true old house when it came to the bones like this. But Ber liked that, knew that Simba liked it too. He liked a house to feel real lived in, like old jeans.

"So uh, down this way would be the game room, but on this side..." he headed down to this little room and opened it up.

It had changed a lot since the first time they toured. Not completely done, but he'd put the recording booth in, which took up a big part of the room. He'd also painted the walls a charcoal grey-- so not quite black, but certainly dark and moody. Had his records in here already. Had his guitars here too. And a nice two-person couch which people could sit on and get real cozy.

"This is Ber's little cave," Simba said with a grin. He was very found of his husband's little hideaways. The one in their house now was bigger than this but still cozy. Ber hid up there for hours sometimes. And Simba always felt at his most special when Ber let him in to nap on the couch while he worked.

"It is sound proofed too, so I can play games and not bother him, eh?"

Simba squeezed the back of Ber's neck.

It did look like a cave with the grey walls which was fun. Recording rooms didn't feel like they needed to be bright and airy, They needed to be warm and creative.

Sometimes that was bright and airy. Sometimes that was dark and moody.

She liked it.

"This is cool. It already looks so much like you." Jenny mused. Plopped from their home to this home.

"Really? That's awesome!" Jeremy grinned. How had he not known that! "I mean, you've seen my camera-" it was an old film camera, inherited from his Grandfather. He loved it, but it did rather stick to the more grainy vintage film shots. "I can't get a good night photograph to save my life, but I'd love to do a night shoot some time! Go look at the stars and take photos. You could show me some tips!" He mostly took nature shots, or candids. He loved taking candids, catching people when they were at their most natural.

"Silver lining of this time of year too, we wouldn't even have to stay out super late!" He was excited about this now, all thoughts of being dumped pushed aside for the time-being.

"Would you ever do like a camping trip somewhere? Could make it a picnic, a night out with people. A little form trip maybe? If that's something you could work into your busy schedule." Jenny teased him but she did hope he would have the time for it.

She was craving that connection with people and wanted one of her best friends there too

Berlioz once again glanced at Simba.

Because sure, he was an adult. A bad adult though. Simba was overseeing all the renovations and was the one in talks with the crew. That was more interesting to Simba, who liked projects and building and all that. Couldn't be Ber. He didn't even mean to, but when things got too technical, his brain switched off.

"But it's alright, we got a great crew, yeah? It's coming together anyway. We could-- show you upstairs?"

The question made Simba chuckle. He wasn't sure why that was what Jenny was hung up on. It wasn't like they were doing it themselves. (Would be a bad idea. Simba was handy--enough, but he wasn't move a whole kitchen handy!)

"Oh yeah, the crew is smashing it," Simba said with a grin. It had been agonizing choosing someone. After all, back home they'd just use the Moreys. Someone they trusted. InterPride had had a huge Rolodex of reliable contractors but still...it was Strawberry Hill. They needed to be gentle with her.

"Or the studio, eh? I think the sound paneling finally came in?" Simba waggled his eyebrows at Ber. He knew that was something Ber and Jenny shared. Maybe she'd stop looking so put off by all this when she saw the studio.

"Whichever you'd like." He turned to Jenny.

Jenny wouldn't say she was put off. It was overwhelming. It was a future and a future that seemed terrifying to her. It wasn't just moving, it was changing everything.

It was building a new life without saftey nets.

She didn't understand how that worked.

"Yeah I mean- I'd obviously choose to see the studio. See what Ber is working with?" Jenny smiled up at her brother at that. Maybe that would be the one thing that would normal?

Not that it mattered. It wasn't her moving. It wasn't her story. It was still just a lot.

"Yeah, I'd totally be down for more walks. I love the snow this time of hear but honestly the darkness makes it so hard to get out and actually enjoy it," he nodded in agreement. It didn't really occur to him that Jenny might feel shut out - in his mind he was way better friends with Jenny than he'd ever really been with Finn. He might have known Finn longer, but they weren't that close.

"Plus spring has got to be an awesome time for photography, you know? All the nature and stuff. If you're into that. I don't know? What kind of photographs do you like taking most?"

"Anything really. I usually like star photography mostly. I have a really good camera that I can get those night shots. But other then that I just like anything that's pretty." Sometimes that was nature, sometimes it was people. It just depended.

Look, Ber completely understood where Jenny was coming around. He had never cared about banisters either until he had bought this home and started thinking about banisters. And then he realized that he did have opinions after all. Sure, not super strong ones, but he didn't want this place to look like the Bonfamille manor or anything-- it needed to still look like...itself.

And like Berlioz and like Simba.

So he was proud of the new banisters, with a simple, clean, dark wood.

"Oh uh--" Berlioz couldn't realize answer that entirely. "It has to do with the uh-- flow? The flow of the place, er-- right?" he glanced at Simba, who had been the one to come up with that idea.

"Yes! The flow!" Simba did a little jazz slide across the white and black checked floor. "So, like--imagine you're here for a dinner party right? You're gonna wanna be chilling in the kitchen and the living room, floating back and forth? Well--before, you'd either have to walk through the dining room--awkward--or go out here into the foyer and then through the hall.

This way there is more flow--" He wiggled his arms in front of his body like he was doing a culturally appropriative hula move.

"It'll be great when we have our first party. Also, the views are better from the new kitchen windows."

This was just a reminder that Ber and SImba were legit adult adults. Jenny wouldn't understand it until she maybe was a legit one too?

"How much work is something like that? Isn't there like a bunch of electric things you have to move and what not?"

"Yeah I know Finn," Jeremy nodded. "He was in my class at school." And besides, he'd heard just a fewwww mentions of Finn being back in town courtesy of Nemo.

"I feel like there's gotta be a club already? But I don't know," he shrugged. "I feel like I can't add loads of extra stuff like that to my plate, cause my schedule is already like ... bananas," he sighed. "And I gotta like, try and find some performance opportunities." If he was going to start taking his music seriously, he had to do it, to play and perform and maybe even record when he had some ideas ready.

"But I'd totally be up for doing some little like... photo walks, or like, hang out and develop some stuff."

Oh yeah.

Sometimes Jenny forget she was the new one in all these. People knew of each other already. A tug of jealously settled in her because she wasn't sure how she fit.

"That's true. Maybe I can join and then whenever you're free I can drag you along or we can just go for more walks as the weather gets better." That would be good fitness for her as well and mental health and what not.

Jeremy glanced at Jenny, thoughtfully. He didn't think she'd hid herself away! But ... had he missed that, really? He felt a little twinge of guilt for that.

"Thanks," he raised the mug in acknowledgement and took a long sniff. "Smells amazing. So my parents were on at me about mine, I think they're feeling a bit ... concerned I'm going to remain in a motionless pit of break-up despair forever. Or they just think I need a project. So I said I'd get back into my photography again! You know? Make an effort to get out and take photos again, which sounds kinda fun."

"Oh that's a good idea. I met this new guy or well I guess he was here before? Finn? His photography is pretty cool. I'm assuming there's a club at Uni but if not we should totally make it. Me you, Penny maybe? Finn maybe? I don't know who else likes photography but there has to be more."

Maybe this would be good for both of them. Out there, meeting new people taking pretty pictures. It would be fun.

Personally, Berlioz had thought it might be a good idea to wait until more things were finished or closer-to-finish to go showing it off. But Simba was Simba. Simba thought Strawberry Hill was beautiful no matter the state, and Ber also felt this way-- even in all its different state of brokenness-- but he also could look at it not through his own romantic eyes, but the eyes of someone like Jenny, who hadn't imprinted on this old, gorgeous place.

He cleared his throat a bit. "Well this whole place was way darker and the floors were-- not great, we had to clean them-- plus those banisters are completely new! It's come a long way."

"Yeah! Aren't they pretty?" Simba ran a hand over the smooth, shining wood.

"Anyway! The living room is finished and mostly cozy. Kitchen and dining room are a mess because we're switching them around. So, we'll have to go out for dinner tonight but that'll be fun! We're trying to sample some of the neighborhood restaurants. I think there is a burger place nearby--

Oh! The bedrooms are also mostly finished. Though, they might still smell a little bit like paint. We've been airing them out, though!"

"Why would you switch rooms around?" Jenny though couldn't help but ask dumbfounded by this whole process.

She wasn't sure and she didn't want to ask or assume.

Finn couldn't help but smile a little. He actually had done that! He'd stayed in Paris for a study abroad program for a year. That was crazy! In the past he never would have had the confidence to be off on his own like that. The mere thought was terrifying.

"Y-Yeah. I was there ab-b-bout a year. I g-g-got to learn a lot from some really talented p-p-people." Finn replied softly. He didn't want to brag about it, but it was a really incredible experience. He couldn't help but want to talk a little about it.

"Honestly I think if Kleo was looking for one, she could do better," he chuckled, feeling a little bit better for the distraction. "She clearly has the cash! But, you know, it might come in handy. Like, what if I'm playing a gig and I need to have different tunings, and don't want to spend a couple of minutes faffing around retuning." He reasoned. See, this was actually a great gift and he *did* need four guitars.

"Not that I have any gigs planned or anything, but hey, you never know. New Year New Me and all that."

Jenny laughed at that thought before gasping. "Excuse you Jere. You are a catch. Anyone would love if you were their sugar baby." Setting her hand on her heart as if it was so shocking.

plus that was easier than agreeing or disagreeing with his second comment which she didn't want to. Besides with the milk warmed up she was able to mix the Hot Chocolate and serving it with a bunch of marshmallows.

"Welcome to Strawberry Hill!" Simba crowed, throwing open the blue door and entering first, mostly to kick some construction supplies away and make sure things were safe.

Things looked good, so he scurried further into the foyer, which had been cleaned up (minus the construction supplies) and now the white and black tile floor shone and the chandelier overhead sparkled and the new banisters on the stairs gleamed.

"Tada!"

From the foyer you could see the stairs, passed the stairs through the hall to the dining room (still in a horrible state of disrepair) and the living room door to the right.

This was it huh.

And Jenny couldn't help the grimace on her face. SHe was sure they had plans and they knew what to do. but she was not someone who could see past what was infront of her.

Had good bones? Sure? Could make things pretty? Sure? but Jenny didn't see it unless others pointed it out.

"Uh- It's really pretty. Though that's a lot of supplies." Jenny mused with a shrug.

"Oh you've met my parents," Jeremy groaned and rolled his eyes. "I have no idea what's going on in their brains but they've definitely hinted at like ... is there something going on with me and her, they keep hinting like .... like they think I'm her sugar baby or something." He snorted and shook his head. The whole thing was ridiculous.

"Plus they're saying that I totaly don't need four guitars, which is technically true, but I don't want to have to get rid of one of mine, and it would be so rude to get rid of one that's a gift, you know?"

Jenny grimaced at that, the suspicion was never fun. Jenny had watched that effect Penny and now with Kloe. Well she wasn't a fan of people assuming things of her friends and making them worry about it.

"Yeah- I don't think you could give it away. Especially if someone found out it just won't feel great to them. At least with time the sugar baby comments will go away. It's not like you asked for the guitar."

"Right?!" Jeremy agreed. "I mean, I'm guessing she must be loaded or something, because otherwise that is a big swing. But it's pretty good. She must be into her music like, quite a lot." He didn't judge Jenny at all, he knew what she meant. He just ... was now struggling to separate the Kleo who had done that for him with the one who had looked so pleased as the Melodies absolutely screwed over the Gentlemen.

Still. It probably wasn't her idea, or her fault.

"I know she's in the Melodies, so I guess she must be. Only now my parents are totally on my case about it, they're being very weird."

"Like weird how?" There were many ways to be weird about it, the obvious, it's too much money and return, the second obvious NEW POTENTIAL CRUSH ALERT.

Or she was sure there were more options but Jenny's mind was focused on the latter.

So she needed to make sure she didn't hurt a broken heart-ed Jere more by insinuating maybe Kleo liked him to go all out like that.
