Birthdays in December

This December 4th will be the 10th birthday my sister never got to have because of cancer. Forever 18 young and beautiful. It still feels like shit.... and is the reason why I love the holidays more. Because I remember EVERYTHING. WINE drunk sadness going on tonight.

This is Chinese artist, Luo Li Rong

Here’s a snippet about her from this article (that also features more photographs of her work, including this sculpture):

Rong has pursued sculpting since an early age. She studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, then under the tutelage of sculptor Wang Du, and later she “immersed herself” in figurative sculpture techniques used by European artists in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Their sense of femininity plays a defining role in Rong’s contemporary works, and the stylistic guidelines help carry on the tradition of realistic sculptures in art.

“ I just worked with an actor, a younger actor, you know, there were a few times I snapped on him. I said, ‘Get your arse over here! This is a job!’ And I could hear myself, after I said it, I could hear my father inside of me saying it, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m turning into my father.’ You know, a lot of people aren’t raised like that anymore, where someone is able to put them in check and say, ‘Hey, stop acting like an arsehole, get over here, this is a fucking job.’ That’s how my Dad would’ve done it. There’s a little bit of that lacking in society today.”
