This is a 1956 Mercury XM Turnpike Cruiser concept car. 

It was a futuristic concept car that debuted at the 1956 Chicago Auto Show. 

The car was designed by Mercury's John Najjar and Elwood Engel and constructed in Italy by Ghia. 

It featured futuristic design elements like a bubble windshield, jet-inspired tailfins, and gold accents. 

The concept car previewed styling themes for the production 1957 Mercury vehicles.
