Nothing Mundane | Do It | Waiting For You | Doctorâs Orders
Looking around the waiting room, you attempted to settle your nerves by people watching. There was a lot of activity, given you were in a hospital. People old and young entered through the departmentâs front doors, busily making their way to their own appointments or to visit loved ones.
You gripped your shaky hands more tightly together in your lap.
âSorry, if you donât have a vaccine pass, I canât let your wife in today,â said a nurse, and you turned to the elderly couple who were trying to check into your waiting area. The nurseâs smile was polite yet strained. âYouâre a patient Mr Omar, so youâre able to stay, but if your support person doesnât have aââ
âBut sheâs my wife,â Mr Omar cut in, his hand that clasped the little woman at his side shaking as he gripped her tighter, as if some invisible force would pull them apart. âIâm not going to make her leave.â
What is worth? It is neither tangible nor seeable. It doesnât have a body or a shell. Yet, the endless chase to catch it, to hold it captive, is a never ending disease that eats away at the brain and tears apart the heart. Itâs only descriptor is feeling. A judgement. Something either is or isnât. When itâs an object in question, the call for worth is passive, innocent. Itâs wanted or itâs not. The deterioration comes into play when the worth is applied to a person.Â
â In which you couldnât ask for a more surprising, supporting boyfriend.

Your face was sour, visibly so too and you knew.
But you didnât care. At all. Life was sour.
You sighed, turning quickly to cast a last look over the crowd and the grand room in hope of your eyes finding the familiar, glowing face of your boyfriend. No such luck. With another sigh, you turned back, pressing your back into your only slightly comfortable chair with a growing pout on your lips.
You couldnât believe your luck - yeah, sure, as an actor, Junmyeon was incredibly busy. You knew that, you knew that all so well. But this was your graduation and you had expected him to be there. Only for your wishes to be crushed with his words;
âBaby, Iâm so so sorry, Iâm not going to make it.â
Late last night, you were clad in your outfit for the day, checking with adoring eyes if it still fit, if it would still wow your boyfriend like you imagined it could. You had spent the whole day, testing out different make up looks and making sure everything was ready for your graduation ceremony the following day - when Junmyeon had called you, near midnight, yawning into the phone and the message already mentioned.
Yeah, you thought inwardly, your boyfriend was always busy. Of course he would have been busy this exact day. His unwanted excuse died out, but you knew it would have been something stupid likeÂ
âScrip reading was movedâ or
âOh, filming is going to be extra long tomorrow - Iâm going to stick my tongue down another girlâs throat again.â
Er, well, maybe the second was made up from your sheer, depressing disappointment in him. He had never said that, nor would he. Even though he had kissed other girls in his prior dramas, it was all acting, and both of you knew that very well.
However, he hadnât gotten an answer to his words, nothing more than you hanging up on him before proceeding to cry yourself to sleep, muffling your loud sobs into your soft pillow. You were disappointed and bitter.
Your eyes were fixed on your lap as you fumbled with the cloth of your navy blue graduation cape, your chest tight and your cheeks quite red with embarrassment as the ceremony started.Â
Only moments ago, your friends and other classmates had been showered in affection, hugs and congratulations from their friends, families, boyfriends and girlfriends. While you hadnât. The feeling of abandonment sat, snugly in your stomach, even though you knew if you wouldnât see him now, youâd see Junmyeon later tonight when you went out to eat. He had at least promised you that.
Names were called, people were presented, and it all went quickly. You didnât watch though, you only stared at your lap as you awaited your own turn, your own turn to get it over with. And it finally came with an another sigh escaping past your lips and a deep swallow back to avoid anymore disappointed tears. You faked a smile, stepping quickly up the small set of stairs and moving over the stage with light steps, taking the man in the hand and accepting your diploma in the other.
Turning your face to the crowd once your diploma was in your head, you squinted your eyes in response to the strong spotlight and smiled sadly -
âThatâs my girl!â
Your eyes shot open at that, suddenly paying no mind to the blending light as they hurriedly traveled over the crowd once more, actually falling onto the handsome face of Junmyeon.
Your lips were stretched up into a wide smile as you waved shamelessly to his own waving hands. He stretched his arms up into the air, yelling obnoxiously;
âY/N! Thatâs my princess, my baby girl! Y/N!âÂ
Your cheeks were incredibly flushed as you hurried off the stage, into the arms of your boyfriend, of your precious, supporting and surprising Junmyeon. His strong arms enveloped you into his embrace, even going as far as to lift you up into the air, triggering squeals out of your mouth and gaining the sole attention of the room to the two of you. It didnât matter.
It was only the two of you as he lowered you slowly, pressing his lips to yours for a quick, sweet kiss before murmuring only for your ears;
âI love you, my graduate. Sorry for my surprise, hope you werenât disappointed.â
You shook your head, your feet meeting ground yet again and your diploma falling to the floor, to be picked up again, of course- just not yet. âI was, but not anymore. I love you too, Junmyeon, so much.â
A/N: hope you enjoy and thank you to the anon for requesting! â„

On this endless road
The sun is beating down on you sweltering hot, the heat shimmering in waves in the air around you. Your skin burns, sweat dripping from your body, and your throat feels like you have swallowed the sand you are dragging your feet through. With the sun behind you, it gives you some relief from the bright glare, as it descends into the endless sea of sand.
Red and golden sand dunes, colored by the setting sun, rise and fall around you for as far as the eye can see. Endless and unforgiving but breathtakingly beautiful. A prison without walls trapping you in the never-ending desert.
You know you are lost; you have been lost ever since you woke up amongst the hills of sand, but you have yet to fully admit defeat. How long has it been? You donât know. You are so very hopelessly lost. The very thought makes it hard to keep going, to keep putting one foot ahead of the other. Would you even die if you stop? Would you disappear? Or would you turn into the very sand keeping you trapped?
You glance at your companion, wanting to shake the disheartening thoughts from your mind. His hair is lighter than when you first met him, bleached by the sun. His skin is golden but dry from the searing heat, and, like yours, his lips are chapped and cracked to the point of bleeding, having seen no water. But there is a fire in his eyes. There is hope. Determination. A will to keep going even when everything seems pointless. Without him, you would have stopped walking a long time ago.
Junmyeon is your only reason to keep going forward. You have never voiced your feelings of hopelessness to him, never told him that you want to give up. To just stop and disappear into the air. Taking away his hope is something you have vowed to yourself to never do. Even though you lost your hope long before Junmyeon appeared next to you, you will never take away his. Selfishly, you use his hope to fuel your own.
Before Junmyeon, you had been alone for so long, just wandering aimlessly through the sand, looking for a reason for your existence. Following the call of the horizon. Hunger and thirst gnawed and burned until you learned to ignore it. The only thing keeping you going was the thought that whatever was calling you beyond the horizon would set you free. But you are still in the desert, and it is still calling you. Still so far away.
The eternal cycle of the sky above you is the only change in your world of sand. Days pass, weeks, months. Maybe even years, you donât know. You stopped counting a long time ago. Junmyeon is still trying to keep track of the days passing, but soon he will give up too. Just like you did.
He feels the call too. He asked you about it after he arrived, but you had no answers. You still donât. It is not a voice, not something you hear with your ears, it is something you feel in your heart. Something you are longing for but donât know where or what it even is. You have chased it for so long, but you no longer believe in the promises it tries to fill your heart with. There is nothing there. How could there be?
First, you were alone in the desert, and then Junmyeon had appeared. From one moment to another. One second you were alone, and the next you found yourself face to face with a young man, bewildered and scared. There was no one, and then there was. Just like that.
It feels like it was only yesterday he appeared, but you know it has already been a long time. Back then, you had watched him go through all the same emotions you had after waking up in the desert alone.
He had paced around for days, vehemently insisting that it was a mistake. Someone would surely know to come find you and rescue you â take you back home. But⊠home is a place you canât even remember. Maybe once you did, but now, there is nothing. Perhaps Junmyeon remembered his home back then, maybe he really knew there was another world out there somewhere. But you watched him slowly forget. You never told him how long you had been there before him, how you had already tried everything you could think of. You just watched, knowing what was coming. And eventually, he realized too.
Anger grew from his denial. From his defeat. Anger burning hotter than the sun as he yelled and screamed at the sky until his voice grew hoarse and disappeared, leaving him unable to speak for days. It was hard to watch, but still, you never spoke. It was something he needed to let out.
Then, there were endless questions. Questions you had asked, and still ask, yourself hundreds of times without finding answers. He would talk to himself, sometimes to you, for hours on end. How are you alive without food or water? You donât even need to sleep, why? What is your purpose? Why are you there? Why is it just the two of you? How do you get out?
At night, when neither of you want to keep walking and you just lie there in the sand watching the stars, you can still hear Junmyeonâs voice asking you all these questions. Every question is a knife to your heart because you want so badly to give him the answers he is looking for. But you canât. The last question he ever asked echoes through your mind every night, his voice small and fragile.
Will we ever get out?
He lost hope after that. He stopped talking, stopped caring. He gave up and refused to walk further. For days, he sat and watched first the sun then the moon and the stars. Unlike you, he never cried once, but there was no life in his eyes. It was like he wasnât even there. Yet still, you never said anything. You just sat and watched him, feeling your heart break at the sight. He looked so small under the vast sky. You could have left him behind, then. You could have continued towards whatever it was you were looking for, but you hadnât been able to bear the thought of ever being alone again. You didnât want Junmyeon to suffer the same loneliness you had.
âJust a little further,â Junmyeon says with a huff, blowing away some hair sticking to his sweaty forehead. âNot much longer now.â
You blink, thoughts breaking, and you look up at him. He is talking mostly to himself, a habit you have become quite fond of. It makes you feel less alone. He has changed a lot since then, his heart once again filled with hope. Somehow, he found the strength within himself to keep going. To find the answers to the questions he once asked you.
You want to believe his words, but you canât. You went through that mantra for what felt like an eternity. Just a little further. You had told yourself over and over. Itâs not far now. Just a little further. It got you nowhere. But he believes, and so you wander through the desert.
Every morning you chase down the sun as it rises, painting the sky in magnificent colors. Every evening you walk with the sun on your back, as the sky is once again lit up in an array of colors that leave you in awe no matter how many times you see it. At night you walk with the moon and the stars, the cool air a relief on your burned skin. You take turns in naming the stars, and you make up stories about the constellations you create together.
Though you have lost hope of ever leaving, you will be fine as long as Junmyeon is by your side.
âSol,â Junmyeon gasps, coming to a stop beside you. âSol, look!â
You look up and you see it. There in the distance amongst the shimmering waves of heat. A speck of blue amongst the gold of the sand. A mirage? The longer you look, the clearer it becomes, and you just stare, not daring to blink in fear if it vanishing. It⊠it is really there, nestled amongst the dunes of sand. A ring of blue and green. You had almost forgotten what green looks like. Green means life â water. I canât be, but still, you feel hope welling up inside you. Itâs really there. Itâs â
âAn oasis,â Junmyeon breathes, voice nearly inaudible as if speaking it out loud will make it disappear. âYou see it too?â
âI do,â you whisper.
You look up at Junmyeon, his eyes meeting yours. They are sparkling in the sun, wide and hopeful, and a smile slowly grows on his face. Without a word, you both start running. Stumbling and falling across the sand, you run, laughing breathlessly and high on the feeling of pure elation. Your heart beats faster and faster the closer you get, and you can feel it washing over you like a tidal wave â hope. Finally.
Junmyeon pulls ahead as your pace slows, a strange apprehension darkening the euphoria. Will this finally be it? Is this your reward for spending an eternity in this sandy prison? Will it be worth it? You take a deep breath. This is it. Everything you have been waiting for. You are ready.
Ahead of you, Junmyeon stops suddenly and falls to his knees with a soft thud. You look up and you stop. Your heart stops. No⊠No.
There is nothing there but sand. Just more goddamned sand! But how⊠you had seen it so clearly. It was right there!
You sink to your knees beside Junmyeon, the hope blooming inside your chest crushed. How can it be⊠You want to cry but no tears come. You feel empty. It was just another way for the desert to mess with you, to keep you going. You should have known better. You know better!
Junmyeon digs his fingers into the sand, letting out a quiet sob. You want to comfort him, but you donât know what to say. He is the positive one, the one keeping you both going, but now⊠You watch as he picks up handfuls of sand, staring blankly at it as it runs through his fingers. Will this be when he breaks? Will this be it?
The thought of him ending up like you, an empty shell with nothing to keep going for⊠you donât ever want that for him, have always done your best to protect him from the reality of what you fear most. That you are stuck for all eternity, doomed to wander the desert forever.
âJunmyeon,â you say, reaching out but hesitate and let your hand fall back down to your side. He doesnât react. Maybe he didnât hear you. Maybe he doesnât care.
You roll onto your back, hoping to get lost in the sea of blue above you. There are no clouds in the sky today, there rarely are. Heat shimmers in the air around you, and you reach up.
Beside you, Junmyeon lies down with a heavy sigh. Neither of you speak, and the sound of a gentle breeze rustling the sand fills the void between you. It is almost comforting. At least nothing has changed, nothing was taken away.
As you lie there in the sand, hours pass. The sun sets on the horizon, the blue sky turning a soft pink, and the shadows around you growing longer. From pink to violet as the air gets colder, soothing on your burnt skin and dry eyes. Violet turns indigo as the first stars appear, tiny lights blinking to life above you. The moon rises as the sky turns black; big and white as it appears and takes over from the sun.
Still, neither of you move. Neither of you speak. You thought that you had long since accepted your fate that was now your existence but seeing Junmyeon so defeated... It broke something within you. Maybe you havenât given up just yet. Maybe Junmyeon has managed to fill you with some of his determination. Maybe.
âSol.â Junmyeon breaks the silence. You hum, eyes closed as you enjoy the cool breeze on your face.
âWe will get out of here,â he says determinedly. âI promise you. This was a sign, I can feel it. Weâre close, we have to be! Just a little further. We can do it.â
Just a little further. You have told yourself that hundreds of times, have heard it from Junmyeon just as many. But why do you believe him this time?
You turn your head meeting his eyes. They are sparkling in the moonlight, so full of life. âThereâs no one Iâd rather be here with than you,â you say, and it is the most honest you have ever been with him.
He smiles and reaches out for your hand. âI donât know why I found you, but Iâm glad I did.â
You stay like that the whole night, holding hands while looking at the stars. Neither of you speak again, but you donât need to. You know.
The sky lightens on the horizon as the sun begins to rise once again. Black bleeding into indigo, then violet and pink. And as the sun peaks over the horizon, the sky explodes in a myriad of golden colors.
âLetâs go,â Junmyeon says, not letting go of your hand as he stands up. You let him pull you to your feet, and you both turn to face the sunrise.
Whatever is calling you, you will find it. Whatever it takes, however long it takes. With Junmyeon by your side, you will walk to the ends of the earth if that is where it is.
A wave of emotions wells up inside of you as you watch the sun rise, and you suddenly feel like laughing. Everything seems like a dream, your whole existence a mystery in itself, but now, instead of giving up, you are ready to explore. To learn.
You start running, letting go of Junmyeonâs hand as you go. The sun is blinding, big and red as it ascends from the sea of sand. You feel breathless, but it is not from running. There is so much to explore. Somewhere out there, you will find what you are looking for, but until then, at least you have Junmyeon to watch the breathtaking sunrises with.
âWhat are you doing?â Junmyeon calls, laughter in his voice.
You spin around to face him, spreading your arms out. âChasing the sun,â you laugh, light and carefree. âCome on! The horizon awaits!â
Junmyeon laughs but starts running, grabbing your hand as he passes you, and you follow him. His smile is blinding as his eyes meet yours.
Sand is kicked into the air behind you as you run, your laughter carried away by the wind. Ahead of you, the sun shines brighter and brighter, almost as if it is actually coming closer.
Whatever it takes, you will get there.
Itâs just a little further.
We'll go further, even further
Finding a road never taken before

Suho never thought it was even possible. A wolf and a human? Just thinking about it was absurd. There was no such thing. He couldnât be destined to someone like her⊠A mere human.Â
But the signs were there: the undeniable attraction, the rapid beating of his heart when she was near, and the way everything seemed to disappear; his vision focusing solely on her as if she was the only person in the world. To Suho, everything was dull but when he was with her, everything comes alive. Everything makes sense with her.Â
âAre you sure, hyung?â Baekhyun asked, one of the members of his pack. He had found his mate a few months ago, while they were passing through a small town somewhere in the countryside. Suho saw how he had changed. His smiles were brighter when he was with her; his movements sharper and more focused. He was strongerâbetter. His mate had completed him and Suho never admitted it but he was quite jealous of it. From his pack, he was the only one who hadnât found his mate. He was starting to wonder if there was something wrong with him or if heâll ever find a mate.
Â
Well now he has found herâŠand he has confirmed that thereâs something really wrong with him since his mate happens to be human; which was supposed to be impossible.Â
âYes. Itâs her. Sheâs the one.â Suho said as he looked out the window.
âI sensed her when we moved here. I ignored it at first but when I saw her the other day, I was sure.â It was a coincidence that the human girlâhis mateâhappened to live right across the house they had acquired. He watched her, as she played with a golden retriever in her front yard. Suho stared at her, noticing every detail with his sharp senses: the way her hair looked when the sun hit it, the way her eyes lit up when the dog followed her order, and even the way her mouth turned up at the corners as she smiled. He chuckled when she huffed cutely when the dog left running instead of following her. She was trying to teach him how to roll over.
âA human.â Kyungsoo said with an astonished tone. âIâve never heard of such thing before.â
âMe neither.â Luhan added as a little kid, his son, jumped onto his lap. Suho glanced at them and felt a slight pang of jealousy.
Â
âLook guys, will you just stop thinking about negative things and just be happy for our, hyung?â Kai said with a big smile. âHeâs finally found his mate!â
Everyone started nodding and smiling, seeing the bright side of the situation. They all knew how Suho had waited for herâhow heâd longed to meet his mate. He was the last of the pack to finally find their mate. âWell hyung, what are you waiting for?â Chen clapped him on the shoulder. âGot get her!â
Suho gave his pack a smile as he walked out the door, ready and ecstatic to face the love of his life. But at the same time he was worried⊠worried at the fact that she was different from him.Â
Could she, a fragile & beautiful human, even love a wolfâa beastâlike me?, he thought.
~~~
Suho crossed thre street and approached her, initiating a casual greeting. âHi.â
Â
The girl looked up and at him and paused. She looked at him curiously, as if trying to decipher if she knew this person or not. She had that feeling of familiarity though she swore she had never seen him before. âHello,â she gave a friendly smile. âCan I help you?â
âIâm Suho.â He said as he reached out his hand towards her. He couldnât help feeling the spark as there hands connected. The girl gasped slightly and he hoped it was what he thought she felt. âI live right across from you.â
Â
âOh! Youâre our new neighbor!â She said happily. âIâm Jin-Hee. Welcome to the neighborhood.â
Jin-HeeâŠ
Suho thought at how beautiful her name was. He nodded and then pointed at her dog, âNice dog you got there.â He was about to pat him when she said, âOh, I wouldnât do that if I were you, he tends to beââ
Suho patted the dog who relaxed at his touch. Being a wolf, Suho knew how animalâs mind worked. He could understand them and knew exactly how to approach them. The dog snuggled closer to his leg as he scratched it beneath his ears.
Â
âWow.â The girl said looking completely surprised at her dogâs behavior. âHe doesnât usually warm up to strangers like this.â She smiled up at him. âYou must be special.â
âOr maybe itâs just the dog in me.â Suho face palmed himself mentally at his lame joke. Dog in me, he scoffed.
Â
Jin-Hee giggled as he called her dog over, but it didnât leave Suhoâs side. This caused her to pout which Suho found really cute. âHe seems to like you very much. I think Iâm getting replaced.â
Suho shrugged and chuckled, making Jin-Hee smile as he watched the beautiful man in front of her. She couldnât understand the undeniable attraction she felt towards him but whatever it was, it felt goodâŠit felt right.
Â
âWould you like to come inside?â She suddenly asked âIâve made some cookies this morning. Maybe youâd like to try one?â
Â
Suho smiled back, âIâd love to.â
Â
Jin-Hee grinned at seeing his beautiful smile. Her heart raced as he continued to gaze at her, wondering how he could possibly make her feel this way when they had just met.
Heâs really something, she thought.
Suho didnât know what lies ahead of them as he followed her into her home. But one thingâs for sure:Â she was the one. And heâs going to do everything to make it work.Â
Heâs going to make the beauty fall in love with the beast.
What do you miss?
That was the question Suho thought constantly. It repeatedly flowed through his brain. Oh, so many answers to the question! But, undeniably, being in good grace was the most regretful.
He made his choices, fair enough. Some would say he shouldnât had been able to do that much, he knew all too well, free will wasnât of his domain. Yet, look where it got him.
Trapped. Stranded on an insignificant sphere that twirled around mockingly as a cruel reminder of all that he had lost.
Time to him meant absolutely nothing. It was yet another thing out of his domain, but some years such as this, he dreaded the slowness of it. Dreaded the reminder that he was stuck in this vacuum they called Earth, waiting for a day that will never come.
For him to finally be forgiven.
His eyes squinted as he took in the corn yellow sun. It was almost blindingly white, as if life itself had sucked away all of the vibrant hue. This part of the world was like that: dreary. Filled with washed out blues and browns, dusty and dry. It wasnât a place he preferred, he found himself more at home in large metropolises, surrounded by people too busy to recognize such a raw entity, although they could still tell when around his presence that something wasâŠoff.
It was a blessing and a curse, Suho supposed, his soul. If he even had one. If he could even call it that. That was the one thing that reminded him of who he truly was. After being stripped of everything, that was all He left him with. Naked, shaking in humility, bleeding for the first time, and radiant.
He could leave the holy place, but it would always reside within him.
Lately, he felt lonely.
Thatâs what had brought him hereâthe loneliness. Being imprisoned upon the Earth for as long as he had, you grew to become lonesome. There were many ways to try to compete with it, but as long as he was an outcast, he would forever be lost in his isolation.
His closest friend throughout it all was the sun. The bright mass of energy that warmed his hard skin always reminded him of the love he once hadâthat he still had. The sun kept his faith alive. And as it rose in the morning, it brought with it the start of a new beginning.
He could never turn back time.
That was probably why he disdained the word so much.
His attention was pulled away from the hovering orb, brought to the young man of which he came for. The boy with the brazen skin.
He was beautiful, this could not be denied. As he rushed out of his house, keys clanking in his awkwardly large hand. He was late again. Suho tisked, but his eyes widened with what followed after the boy.
An unfamiliar woman trailed behind him, not nearly in as much a hurry as the one before her. Her face was otherworldly beautiful, built to invite, built to seduce.
The boy was in the car in no time, speeding away in a hurry, leaving dust in his wake.
The woman stopped, not taking after him. Instead, she lifted her head and locked eyes solidly with Suho.
He gasped as she smiled angelically and then the dust lifted, barricading her from view.
Once it settled again, she was gone.
~*~
Suho could barely recall the last time he saw another one of the Fallen. About fifty years, give or take. A demon? It had been a bit longer. There were fewer of them, although some of the fallen seek refuge under the dark wings of the under lord. It was why they were created after all, to follow, to serve. If not to Him than to his enemy. The two of them were more similar than they thought, although Suho would never dream of telling either oneânot like he would ever get the chance to. Lucifer terrified him and God⊠well, they werenât exactly on speaking terms.
Even though it had been a while, he recognized a demon when he saw one. What did she want with the boy? Puzzled, Suho pondered what drew the creature to him in the first place.
Speaking of places, this wasnât Suhoâs at all. He never considered himself a vigilante, as many other Fallen do. Their sense of purpose and protection overwhelming them to do right. That was mostly those who were guardians in the past. Suho was not in that field. No. This foreign sense of concern drew from something else entirely. He bit his lip, curling the warm mug in his hands closer to himself as he fought off the strange feeling fogging his mind.
The demon, right.
Demons were sent to Earth from the Under Lord to do his biddings. Simply, to coerce as many humans as they could. Drag them back to hell so that He could mourn the loss of yet another of his fragile creatures. Suho understood enough to know Lucifer took great pride in hurting Him however he could. Another lost soul was a victory to him.
She must have saw something within that boy to make her decide to latch. Suho had been watching him for a while now, and this was the first he had seen of the dark entity. Maybe she felt itâŠ. No, there was no way. Suho was being careful, meticulously so. There was no room for error as far as his involvement and he meant to keep it that way.
He was that boyâs protector, now more than ever, he had a duty to him.
It felt good, having a purpose again. He had lost it centuries agoâa real duty, a call to be good.
Maybe after all of this was done, he would again be in His good grace. But it was still a wistful wish, one he refused to humor until it happened.
âWould you like another one, Sir?â
Suho lifted his head to the waitress and despite being a regular at this point, she still stuttered at his beauty.
He smiled, white teeth on display and her breath caught in her throat. âPlease.â
~*~
A week had gone by without any sight of the demon. Suho tried to mask his disappointment with relief. It wasnât as though he wanted anything to come to the boy, but it had been so long since he had been in contact with one of his own, demon or not. She had to have some sort of connection to their shared past.
He knew how demons worked.
Once they found a person to leech off of, they attached until their job was done, or the person fought them off. Suho watched an exorcism once. It was one of the hardest things he ever had to witness. That was a long time ago, using different methods, different practices. All the same, it was a memory that, to this day, gave him chills.
The boy was a religious man, oddly enough. Suho didnât understand how, but every Sunday, he found himself at the local church, sitting in the back, listening to the spoken word.
He used to pray, but hadnât in years. He wondered if it were his place too, if God ever listened to him or others like him. Or, like everything else, if it were only for them.
He was running late this Sunday. It was well into mass when he rushed towards the small, yet still elegant tan bricked church.
His quick steps came to a stop when he saw someone leaning against the wall, cigarette in hand. She wore torn leather pants that hung dangerously low on her wide hips, an equally as torn black wife beater that appeared more of a well-used rag than anything else as it barely covered the swell of her breasts, though her toned stomach was exposed. Her belly botton was pierced and a faded tattoo splayed over her abdomen. He couldnât make out the word from this distance and the ink blended into her skin. A small black denim vest sat on her shoulders, leaving her arms exposed, tattoos dotted the limbs as well. Her jet black straight hair hung loosly. It was time for her to wash it. Her face, again, was angelic, despite her best efforts to be anything but. Big stunning round eyes surrounded by long eyelashes that brushed her chiseled cheeks whenever she blinked. Nose a button on the center of her face, lips full and pink, cheeks rosy, and skin flawless, not a blemish in sight.
He had her full attention as well. She took him in with a pleased smile, holding the cigarette up. âYou think this will kill me?â
Her voice was just as attractive as her face, and the way she tilted her head left Suho breathless. He couldnât seem to find his voice, struck dumb by her large presence. It had been a moment since he saw one of his kind, but he never felt a presence as strong as hers.
She noticed.
Never breaking eye contact, she dropped the small stick, putting it out with the heel of her boot. Than she motioned her thumb towards the building she currently leaned against where he could faintly make out singing.
âThey wonât let me in. I thought this place welcomed all.â
âWhy are you here?â He worked up the courage to ask. He knew why, but wanted her to say it.
She shrugged. âThought our old man would be happy to see me.â She shoved her hands into the pocket of her jeans. âGuess not.â
âDo⊠Do I know you?â Suho pressed. There were hundreds of angels, all with a specific role/job. It was impossible to know them all, especially if this were someone who fell after him, but her energy was strongâtoo strong to be newer than him.
She shrugged again. âMaybe. When did you fall?â
âWhen did you?â
âOh, so youâre the one in charge here I see.â She laughed, pushing herself off the building to come closer. âWhatâs your name, tough guy?â
Her breath smelled sweet. He hadnât been this close to a demon before, refusing to have anything to do with them. They were everything He hated, everything He feared. He wanted nothing against those who had turned their backs completely from Him.
All the same, he felt complied to answer. âThis land refers to me as Suho.â
âSuho,â she repeated, letting the word swirl around her wet tongue. âKorean, correct? Makes sense, thatâs where we are.â
âIt meansââ
âGuardian.â She interrupted. âFitting. You mustâve been one in your past life.â
His jaw clenched and she noticed.
âIâm sorry,â she said, not sounding apologetic in the slightest.
Chapter 1
Words: 9k.
The first time you met him, you knew who he was.
Or rather, you thought you knew.
You knew him as a leader of a group of younger brothers. A teller of Dad Jokes and generous giver to his members. A man who knew just how devastatingly handsome he was but somehow, didnât let it go to his head.
You knew him only as Suho, not Kim Junmyeon. He told you as much during your first conversation.
You tried to prove him wrong.
He wanted to hope you were right.
summary: âthe endâ didnât always mean it was over. especially when the love you had for each other ran so much deeper.
The world felt still, glaringly silent while he lied in bed. The emptiness sat on his chest, the lump forming in his throat as the memories of you ran through his head like a marathon.
It had been more than a year since the breakup. His loneliness wasnât unfamiliar to him, unfortunately. Heâd felt it for a few months after you left, but he had slowly eased back into the motions of life without you. He no longer woke up expecting to kiss your forehead as you slept peacefully. He no longer stayed up to listen as you spoke in your sleep, just to laugh at the ridiculous things you said. There was no one around him passionate about the stars anymore, no one talking about constellations with the wonder you had in your eyes as you stared up at the sky.
But this was different. It felt like a different brand of loneliness; he had friends, and he talked to them every day, yet his dreams told a different story. You were there, holding hands, head resting on his shoulder as you spoke about anything that came to mind. Heâd always loved that; how you managed to make him cling to your every word with topics heâd otherwise find uninteresting.
Who wouldâve thought that Jongdae convincing him to give you his number would spiral into this.
You were stressed, barely put together after spending nearly six consecutive hours on your feet. To you, you were a frazzled mess, but as you jotted down Junmyeonâs order, hair slightly falling in your face, he couldnât help but feel his cheeks burning as he stared at you.
âShould I help her? What is it? It or⊠she maybe?â
He kept looking at her body from above as she fell slowly towards the darkest and deepest side of the ocean.
âYeah, I think she is a female of whatever weird creature from the surfaceâŠ. if I just got a little bit closerâŠâ
You were drifting in and out of consciousness. Darkness filling your vision as you struggled to make sense of your surroundings. You knew you were lying on the ground because you could feel the sharp rocks and roots sticking in your back which should have been painful, but slowly a pleasant numbness was taking over your body chasing the pain away. Something heavy was pressing you down, almost suffocating you, but you couldnât find the source of it even though your eyes kept searching.
âSo, how was it?â
âKelsi, he was too wonderful!â
âWell whatâs wrong with that?â your best friend enthused and you groaned out loud as you walked towards the closest bus stop. Taking a seat, you shook your head at no one in particular.
âI didnât feel anything.â
âWell, it was only the first date, Y/N.â
âNormally you feel something though, donât you? Something has to entice you forward, to â oh my god.â
âOh my god? What does that mean?!â you vaguely heard Kelsi say as your hand slowly dropped away from your ear, your eyes rounding with surprise.
You hadnât expected this.
Junmyeon had evidently run all the way to you, holding up a hand to ask for your grace as he caught his breath. And then he stepped closer, his eyes determined. âGive me another chance.â
âWhat? Junmyeon, I-â
âI know youâre probably thinking why is this guy hanging on to me when I said I wasnât interested. I know it must make me look a fool but I really enjoyed tonight. I donât know exactly what your reason is for thinking thereâs nothing more to explore, but I feel differently. Let me show you more. Let me take you on ten dates.â
âTen dates?â you echoed, your mouth then moving without words actually forming.
Junmyeon pressed on whilst you attempted to register his request. âItâs not a losing aspect. If I didnât think there was something worth trying for, I would let you walk on by. I still will now if you feel strongly that itâs not something you want to try. But I do hope youâll consider my offer.â
âWeâve already had one date and-â
Junmyeon nodded immediately. âOkay, let me have nine more with you. Just humour me on this. I really think we have something.â
You hated being put on the spot like this because you knew what was going to come out of your mouth. You could see how genuine he was about getting to know you more, and the guilt within you washed away the feeble arguments that had formed. You couldnât see a way out of this situation without causing a scene.
And so, you stopped chewing on your lip, your deliberation complete. âTen dates in total?â
Junmyeon relaxed, nodding again. âIf at the end of it all you still feel inclined to say no, I wonât ask anything more of you. Right now, if I didnât ask for another chance, I knew I would regret it for the rest of my life.â
Your gaze grew curious at his admission, wondering what he was seeing in his head about you that you couldnât quite comprehend. You were, however, aware that your best friend was listening on to all of this, Kelsi all but screaming at you to accept.
So you smiled and nodded in agreement. âAlright, letâs see where the next nine dates take us.â
