KIMBERLY WAS STARTING TO RECONSIDER HER STANCE ON TINDER. given how often she shot the idea down, one would think sheâd found an alternative solution to her loneliness problem. not that it was a problem. aside from a hookup or two, she didnât desire any more company than she was already getting. but god forbid one of the idiot girls sheâd finessed into liking her actually believed that. so⊠here she was: kicking rocks as she walked out of a movie theater with julian vega. people milled around them, chatting in loud and nasally voices as they discussed the #patients film.
kimberly was quiet, tongue idly tracing the line of her bottom lip as she considered what to say. kimi would start talking about the cinematography and the bravery of the mysterybusters and her sympathies for their experiences. kimi would hang off of his arm and smile up at him with a light gleam in her eyes, showing off enough cleavage to ensure he took her home tonight and fulfilled the only thing she really wanted from this date.
but fuck if it wasnât exhausting being kimi.
âââââââthat movie was such bullshit.â her tone was blunt and almost dismissive, hands stuffed into her back pockets as they walked. she had virtually nothing to lose by being herself here, aside from maybe a bit of street cred. unassuming, saccharine kimi park, talking shit about the biggest movie of the year? no way. âthe acting wasnât good enough to sell the story. i donât even think they tried.â
it had been a good few months since the last date julian had. if he was being honest with himself, there wasnât much motivation coming from him to get out into the dating sceneâjulian was rather happy on his own. but when ashley cohen ( a girl normally too wrapped up in her own reflection to see anything outside herself ) slipped into his direct messages for the first time since high school, she sparked his interest. rather, the girl she spoke so highly about, kimberly park, sparked his interest. despite his general distaste in ashely and the majority of her friends, julian took a risk, and agreed.
he shouldâve known better, though. for the first half of the night, their basic pizza dinner and walk to the theater, julian felt like he was talking to a wall. a pretty one, certainly prettier than any wall heâd met in the past month of going to u of w. but there was nothing different about the girl than that of ashleyâpretty, with nothing inside. he was thankful when the lights in the theater went dark and he didnât have to keep up with the dull conversation anymore.
but then⊠kimi gained his interest again. authentically, this time. when she shared her thoughts, he practically burst out laughing, but tried to keep it contained for the sake of others around them. âokay, okayâso it wasnât just me thinking that, too?â he held the door to the theater open for her, a new bounce in his steps. âlike, i want to like it for themâyou know they go to u of w, right? butâno, i agree. half that shit⊠it would never happen! when blair was âpossessedâ i swear, i was about to laugh out loud. but i think the acting was good. from some of them, at least. naomi sure as hell cried a lot. and micah? micahâs whole broody facade thing, i liked that.â
