Pre-match press conference: Luka Modric | July 23, 2015 Manchester City: “I’ve played them several times and they’ve changed a lot over the years. They’ve invested a lot of money and have enjoyed success in England. I didn’t get to see their game against Roma the other day”. Pre-season camp: “We’re training really well. We have two sessions a day. It’s very hard work, but this is the preseason and we want to be in good shape for the year ahead. Training is a lot of fun because it includes a lot of ball work. We’re happy with the way training is going and I’m certain our fitness is going to increase. There’s a very positive mood around the camp”. Ramos: “Fingers crossed he stays because he is a hugely important for us. He’s our captain and our leader both on and off the pitch. I think he’ll stay because in my opinion he’s the best defender in the world and he should be on the best team in the world. There’s no need to ask him to stay because I’m certain that’s what he wants to do”. Working with Benítez: “We’re very excited about next season and we’re working really well and hard so that we can taste success this year. As players sometimes we’re not that keen when it comes to working on tactics, but they’re important for organising things and picking up good habits on the pitch that can really help the team out. We have no problems with that. He hasn’t surprised me too much. This is the first time I’ve ever worked with him and it has been really positive. I was told that he had very high standards and that’s what I like about him. There’s still plenty of time to get to know him better and hopefully we are able to maintain a strong relationship and enjoy a good season together”. His importance in the team: “Last season was extremely tough for me. I had two serious injuries and I want to put them behind me now. I don’t have any niggles and I’m training well. I am going to give it my all, as I always do, to repay the manager for the trust he’s placed in me and to help the team”.
