Jasmine scowls, sliding another stick of pocky into her mouth and chomping the end off it. “Hey hey, no need to get your panties in a bunch, Blondie, I was just lookin’ for someone. Looks like you. Same messy haircut, but he ain’t got your taste in, uh, headgear.” Chomp. The second stick of pocky disappears into her mouth and she cocks her head at him again, narrowing her eyes and gazing at the circlet of silver atop his head. She looks more curious than anything but there’s the beginnings of a grin hovering at the corners of her mouth. “S’it supposed to be, anyway? You runnin’ late for a fancy dress party, thought you’d go as a princess on casual Friday?”
"Are you so dense as to not recognize a crown when you see one? Then again, I suppose that it can be expected that a peasant wouldn't know how to distinguish their own toes from their brain, let alone a regal status symbol." Belphegor laughs darkly, rolling his shoulders and tossing his head to the opposite side. "Petty costume jokes aside, I am a prince. You may address me as 'Your Royal Highness', if you wish, but I also go by Belphegor when I am feeling generous."
The assassin leans forward just a bit, his grin feral and amused. The girl may be insulting, but that doesn't mean he has to let it get to him. "And you are?"

“Hey, Blondie! I’ve been lookin’ for you for hours! The fuck did I say about wanderin’ off, huh?”
The thickly accented voice rings out in a bark and Jasmine narrows her eyes, looking more than a little annoyed. There’s a stick of strawberry pocky hanging out of her mouth and she takes an abrupt bite before stuffing the rest in her mouth. Jasmine takes large, purposeful strides towards the blonde prince, attempting to display some kind of authority — then she stops and blinks at him, cocking her head to one side and looking bemused.
“Huh. You ain’t Blondie. Guess the Bieber cut’s popular with you boys lately.”
What is it with him and attracting the strangest people on the face of the Earth? Belphegor tilts his head to the side slightly, curiously eyeing the girl who had approached him.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," the prince replies, pointedly ignoring her jab at his haircut, "but I would suggest you go away immediately."
The blonde shoves his hands into the coats of his pocket, standing a bit straighter rather than slouching. Honestly, he's a little insulted that she had mistaken him for someone else.
I'll do replies tomorrow -- work has me burnt out, so I'm just tired and can't write anything worth shit.
So yeah, anything I owe to you guys will be dished out tomorrow asap.
“No. Besides, why would I wanna? That shit’s useless…”
Dusk frowned slightly, attempting to think of a good question.
“Hm. Do you play any computer games ‘er anything?”
"It's not useless! It's entertaining, especially when people fall over." Bel giggles -- he wishes he had some sort of ridiculous jester at his beck and call with the sole purpose of his amusement.
"And, no, I don't play computer games very often. I'd rather play hide and seek or other games." He clasps his hands together, standing on his toes. Maybe they should play something together -- or, rather, him commandeer whatever video games she owns. "But... what games do you have? This game is getting a little dull."
“Ah. I guess that makes sense…” She shrugged and nodded. “Not on me at the moment, but a scythe. Lil’ bit too heavy to lug around to greet new people, though.” Dusk gave a small smirk towards the other, but proceeded to tilt her head to the side.
“Hn..on the flip side, do you have any weapons?” Curiosity killed the cat. Or in this case, the fox.
A scythe? Bel makes a mental note to remember this. An interesting weapon, but he does agree -- it would be heavy to carry around everywhere.
"That's neat. Not something I would go for, but it's a nice choice regardless."
The blonde grins to her, shrugging his shoulders in response to her question. "I do." His answer is lame, and certainly is as vague as possible -- but she didn't ask for anything specific, and Bel is happy to be evasive.
And once again, it's his turn to ask a question. He looks off to the side, in thought for a moment. Coming up with questions gets hard after a while. "Can you do a handstand?"
“Fine then, I won’t TOUCH you.” Squalo remarked, keeping the devious smirk from protruding past the edge of his lips. No grinning before the punchline, that always gives it away… but in that regards the shark would be a terrible comedian. “I’ll STAB, JAB, POKE, RIP, and GUT you. You didn’t give me any rules about that, now did you, Princey?” It’s called ‘loopholes’ Bel, look it up. Squalo was so fucking skilled at them he might as well make it as a half-baked Ace Attorney character.
Squalo was glad he’d decided to catch a bite while he was out, considering by Bel’s hunger and attitude it didn’t seem like he’d missed exactly a gourmet dinner. Not that he was against eating leftovers, but he preferred hot and fresh to cold and stale, like anyone would. So the quick panini on a whim plan was more or less an accidental success. Plus ten points for the shark.
He knew that by now he was testing the waters and seeing how far it would boil until he burnt. It was interesting, seeing which would crack fist and fly into a fury of sharp objects pointed at various vital parts of he body. Well… pointed was a vague word. More like stabbed all the way to the bone.
“That’s too bad. I don’t teach lettuce, I teach humans beings. But then again you were never much of one anyways, you cocky prince. That point aside, I’m not nor will be falling for your little game of ‘giving in to your demands’.” Even though it was as simple as putting something on a plate and pressing a few buttons this argument had already elevated to the point of no return and now pride was laid on the table… instead of the bacon which still sat placidly in the bag.
“But I can compromise, brat. How about this? Put the bacon on the plate and read me the microwaving instructions and I’ll microwave it. Sound fair enough? If not we can do this all night and you’re never getting any fucking bacon.” He’s only going to meet you half way here, Bel. Live with it.
Bel tilts his head to the side when Squalo comes up with some backwards thinking about his comment about no touching him, and then breaks out into laughter. He leers at the other, obviously very much amused with what he had just said.
"Do you think that it would be wise to stab and gut me, Squalo? Think about that for a minute and get back to me later."
Right -- Bel would actually love it if Squalo brought actual bloodshed into the mix; considering that physical harm is what brings out his truly murderous rage, Bel doesn't see a problem at all with this. In fact, it certainly would make things a lot more interesting -- for him at least. For Squalo, not so much. It would have to be terribly difficult to deal with him when he's in 'Ripper' mode, and Bel would be happy to make things as difficult as possible for his teammate.
Still smiling, the blonde considers Squalo's compromise. He certainly doesn't want to lose this little game they're playing, and that would probably ensue if he refuses. After all, Squalo could simply leave on his own will, and Bel would be shit out of luck. But princes aren't supposed to make compromises...
But he also really wants that bacon, and it's probably getting close to four am now.
Belphegor looks at Squalo, and then slowly takes the bag, opens it, and holds it over the paper plate so that the bacon unceremoniously falls out. "The instructions said, like, two to three minutes."
This is what teamwork looks like.
“Heh. No, I haven’t, but I’ve met quite a few people I’d love to set on fire. But myself, ehh..me and fire have already had a close run in.”
She paused, and tilted her head, trying to think of something. “How come that crown you’re wearing is so thin? It looks like a tiara.”
Oh.
"It's a crown -- not a tiara -- and is a family heirloom. I cannot control its physical properties. Besides, if it was very heavy, then I would not be able to run around and play fun games with people without it falling all the time."
And that would just be upsetting. Bel snickers to himself, putting his hands behind his back and leaning forward just a bit. He's still bored, but not as bored. It's a start. Maybe he can use this woman as target practice too.
Speaking of fighting -- "Do you possess any weapons?"
“I’ll do whatever I fucking want to you, brat. Hell as much as you complain I bet half of you fucking likes it.” He could peg the brat for a sadist or a masochist, probably both. Whatever suited the little asshole’s mood. And it wasn’t like that insult meant shit, considering he didn’t care if his blood was trashy as an NYC subway line he was still the sword emperor, still the second in command, and still stronger then this brat would ever be. What more could he ask for? ‘Pure blood’ that sounded more the garbage then anything.
“How about this, I’ve got something better. I’ll TELL you how. Unless you have the mental processing power of a piece of lettuce, and in that case I’ll make sure to go EXTRA slow for you.” A cocky smirk resided on the shark’s lips as he took the position of superiority. Fine, if Bel was going to act lazy the shark was going to peg him as mentally unable for the night. Now we just had to see which would be sacrificed first: his stubbornness or his pride.
“First you have to OPEN the bag. You know, use the fucking zipper and the top and pull it so look now you can reach IN!” Alright, it was clear Squalo was enjoying babying the brat more then he should, but hell he’d had it coming. He was practically begging for it. “Then you take the bacon OUT of the bag and place it on a plate. Here, I’ll even get one for you since I doubt your small brain can hold the information regarding their precise location.”
Squalo yanked open one of the draws, snatching up a flimsy paper plate and tossing it onto the counter. “Then you PUT the bacon ON that plate. Unless you’d rather cut a fucking slab off the counter and use that.”
"You're still not allowed to touch a prince without his explicit permission," Bel practically hisses, strongly resisting the ever increasing urge to stab Squalo. He's being a real asshole today, and Bel is fucking hungry. Does the shitty shark not understand that? Eating leftovers all day because there was no one (namely Lussuria) to provide him with freshly cooked food sucked, and he didn't feel like leaving HQ to get some food at a restaurant or something.
And, watching Squalo go over the instructions in such a way is really grating on Belphegor's nerves. It's extremely difficult not to jam one of his pretty knives straight into one of the swordsman's eyes, and Bel also has half a mind to just leave and go to bed.
But that's probably what Squalo hopes would happen, and Bel would hate to let him get what he wants. Someone's going to have to break first.
Crossing his arms over his chest, the prince puts his thumb to the corner of his lips and leans in a little. He looks particularly hard at the paper plate Squalo sets down on the counter before him, and then looks to the bag of bacon again.
"Despite your patronizing but helpful tone, I still don't get it. I think I'm going to need you to demonstrate, as I apparently have the mental process of a piece of lettuce, Squalo."
Bel will be damned before he cooks his own food.
She shrugged and nodded. “Alright, then. Are you italian? You’ve got a pretty heavy accent there.”
Dusk didn’t really mind these types of games. Mainly because she never had anything interesting to say, so.
"Excellent deduction skills -- you would be correct."
Hm, now it's his turn to ask something. "Have you ever thought of practicing self-immolation? I've always wondered this about peasants." Certainly being a commoner would cause one the desire to set oneself on fire and die, wouldn't it? Bel kind of hopes so.
Bel that was actually impossible not to notice, since sadly enough the shark did keep track of the measurements of his hair, trying to predict when it would become too long to handle and drag along the ground. He didn’t exactly want to take the shitty nickname ‘silver Rapunzel’ to heart. “Liar. You wouldn’t have the fucking guts.” Because calling Bel a coward was an attempt to save his own hide regarding his precise care of his own hair.
“Stop throwing that title around, at least to me. You expect it to mean something but it carries no more weight then a feather in my presence.” Squalo wondered if one day Bel would catch onto his hints; that if he stopped referring to himself by his blood and rather by his assassin skill, among other things, Squalo might actually acknowledge that. It wasn’t that he doubted the brat was strong or worthy of being here it was that his cocky attitude was based on a superficial and meaningless notion of ‘royalty’ rather then the redeeming traits he actually HAD.
It was like Bel was either oblivious to everything else or he was simply a lopsided pessimist trying to cover up his own insecurities. Or there’s the default in that he knew full well what Squalo’s thought were and simply exploited chances to annoy him. Sadly that was probably correct.
Squalo reached out to clamp his left hand onto the brat’s wrist and continue dragging him forcefully, even if he was willing to go along quietly the prince had been correct in assuming the word quiet wasn’t in Squalo’s dictionary. He stopped once he entered the kitchen and half dropped, half threw the complaining prince against the refrigerator before shoving him aside to shuffle through the contents and pull out a bag of pre-cooked bacon laying in the freezer. Like hell he was going to let Bel’s plans of laziness succeed. He promptly dropped the bag flat into Bel’s hands.
“There’s instructions. You can fucking read correct? Or do you really have the mentality of a kindergartener.”
Bel refrains from yelping once more when he's shoved around by Squalo, this time shooting a glare in the other's direction. "You shouldn't manhandle me like that, shitblood." Squalo is such an asshole, ugh. How dare he throw a prince around like this.
Watching his teammate rummage through the freezer for a moment, the blonde gets excited when he sees Squalo retrieve the bacon -- but that excitement is quickly killed as soon as he's handed the bag. What the fuck?
"I can read." He looks at Squalo incredulously, pouting and quickly scanning his eyes over the instructions. That sounds easy, but there is the fact that he doesn't want to do it.
Belphegor huffs again, turning his attention back to the swordsman. "I still don't get it. Show me how." He's lying right through his teeth, ugh. Princes just don't make their own food.
“Fuck you, I know perfectly well how to be quiet! My feet weren’t even fucking squeaking or anything like that!” Squalo suspected that if by any chance he was being ‘noisy’ to the other it was because Bel had exceptional hearing. Half the time he swore the blond asshole was blind so that might as well be the truth. He had the hearing to never miss a beat and a nose for trouble and how to cause it.
“You wouldn’t have the guts. You’ve threatened me with that a million times by now but you never follow through on anything. I’m not going to listen to your bullshit just because you’re so apathetic about your own life and can’t even be bothered!” Squalo was sure the other understood that if this was ever carried out there would be hell to play. And the first thing on a silver platter wouldn’t be the brat’s precious bacon, it would be his head. Waste of a good platter, really.
“…if you’ve fucking touched anything in my room…” This thought though, made the shark paranoid. There were a few things that he preferred to fucking keep ‘private’, that was why they were labeled with such a word. Squalo was human, he had his secrets and some were so easily exploitable be convinced himself that Bel didn’t have a clue.
“ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PRESS A FUCKING BUTTON. HERE, I’ll SHOW you.” And with that the shark snatched out and grabbed the blond by the collar of his jacket, forcibly dragging him along no matter the resistance. Alright, Bel was going to get his fucking bacon but he’s going to wish he’d NEVER EVEN ASKED.
Bel giggles again, looking quite amused with the other. "Who's to say I haven't been carrying out any threats? Maybe I've cut off an inch of your hair before without you noticing because it's just a small amount."
"And I'm not apathetic about my life -- I'm the prince." It's everyone else's lives and respective wellbeings that he doesn't give a flying fuck about. Why should he care anyways? They're all worthless to him, and commoners are impossibly stupid. Not at all fit for the presence of royalty. The only reason that Bel hangs around Squalo and the rest of the Varia is because he has to (that, and bothering them is fun as hell).
Letting out a surprised yelp when Squalo yanks him by the collar and drags him towards the kitchen, Belphegor scrambles to get properly back onto his feet so he literally isn't being dragged. He pulls away from the swordsman, huffing and adjusting his collar so that it's in the correct position, but he can't feel but to feel pleased that he's managed to at least get Squalo into the kitchen.
Now just to manipulate him into cooking his fucking food.
Once they arrive to the kitchen, Bel immediately runs to one of the counters and hops onto it with his usual impish grin. "Bacon?"
“Tch. Ya came to the wrong place, boredom sticks around me a lot. Although usually I actually waste my time on my laptop, so unless ya like computer games or something, the most I can offer is an annoying game of, like, 20 questions.”
She let out an amused snort and shrugged.
Bel tilts his head to the side, pursing his lips. Wow, this is kind of lame. "I don't want to play any computer games, so I guess I'm bored enough to play twenty questions for a little while."
He pauses, eyeing her.
"You go first."
He'll probably give her a whole bunch of lies to her questions, so whatever. It will kill the time.
“I didn’t even open the door that loud. And if you didn’t fucking notice I was trying to go upstairs QUIETLY. If you were ACTUALLY asleep I had no intention of waking you.” It wasn’t like Squalo enjoyed a dosage of bratty prince at 3 in the morning. Or at any time of the day for that matter. It was a medicine he could just as well go without. It tasted like that shitty artificially stuff that wasn’t even fucking cherry anyways.
Squalo glared down at the other when he was approached. It was clear by the tension that both were tired and thus their arguments weren’t the usual brand, which included some enjoyment for the both of them. No this was two people who were well past tired and that LAST person they’d wanted to see tonight was each other. Squalo could play the bigger man and just end this exchange right now but he was too stubborn to just walk away. It was practically admitting defeat.
“What and you think I’M any better? Hell you send me in there for your shitty bacon and I can guarantee we’ll be out a kitchen and all you’ll be getting is burnt scraps.” It was clear neither of them had cooking experience. One would think Squalo would have a basic grasp, having lived on his own for a while, but every attempt ended in failure and since he considering it a useless skill once entering the academy he really didn’t care.
“If you’re so fucking hungry find something you can heat in the microwave. Even YOU couldn’t fuck that up.”
Bel snorts at the other, leaning forward on his toes. "You're always loud though, so you probably thought you were being quiet. But you actually weren't." The blonde giggles, and smooths down his hair. He's actually almost tempted to touch Squalo's hair as well, but the man probably would not refrain from smacking him.
Despite how tired he is, Bel is in a pretty good mood and getting to bother Squalo is only making him feel even better. Squalo always reacts in the most hilarious ways to his pranks, and it honestly never gets old.
"Squalo, I don't care if it ends up being fucking ashes, just go get me some bacon or I'll," he pauses, only for a split second, "cut your hair tonight when you're asleep. I can break into your room real easy, you know."
And it's very possible that Bel has done that before. He's not going to confirm it, however.
Pouting when Squalo tells him to microwave something, Bel whines somewhat loudly. "I caaan't. Make me something to eat or I'll make your life more of a living hell than it already is."
”..Okay, I won’t fight you on that but I don’t need fancyass shit I live by myself and I have no reason for fancy shit. So.”
She raised an eyebrow at his second comment, though, and cracked a grin.
“A Prince. You’re fucking shitting me. Why the hell would a Prince be around here? “
He snickers to himself, shrugging his shoulders. "I'm just wandering around out of boredom seeing as there's nothing fucking else to do. It would be immensely helpful and greatly appreciated if you could somehow be useful and come up with something entertaining to do."
“I’m talkin’ to you because you wandered into my territory, ya dumbass…which is why I asked you if you were lost.” Dusk quickly stuck her hand back into her pocket, giving a brief nod towards the other.
Bel glances around, kind of skeptical about her first comment. "This is your territory? It's really shitty, just so you're aware. I'm not lost either. Princes don't get lost."
He's really glad she didn't try to press about the handshake. Ew, he doesn't want her germs.
