Every time someone says one of my theories, interpretations, or headcanons feels like canon to them I grow stronger.
generally you shouldn't write run-on sentences because they get confusing and it doesn't give the reader a break. that doesn't apply to me though my run-on sentences are fun and understandable and they have a rhythm to it that makes you want to keep reading

Ok, I NEED you to understand just how insane even ATTEMPTING this was for them.
1. Playing an instrument is difficult. Doing so in sync with others even more so. Don’t think I’m stepping on any toes saying that.
2. Dancing is difficult. Doing so in sync with others even more so. Still not controversial.
3. YOU AVOID, AT ALL COSTS, MOVING YOUR BODY WHILE PLAYING A WIND INSTRUMENT. To make the correct, pleasant sounds, you need to be in the correct form. And that form involves your ENTIRE body, even your legs when sitting down.
4. “oh, but I’ve seen marching bands before and-” MARCHING BANDS HAVE ENTIRE SCIENTIFIC FIELDS DEDICATED TO FIGURING OUT HOW TO MARCH WITH MINIMUM BREAKING OF PROPER FORM. A marching band tries to be as smooth as possible while moving, so as not to jar their instrument, mouth, neck, arms, torso, or anything else.These ladies and gentlemen are BOUNCING and still playing properly, what the FU-!
5. AND ANOTHER THING! Wind instruments and dancing BOTH make demands on your breathing, so the fact that they are dancing (making you breath faster for extra oxygen) AND playing wind instruments (making you effectively hold your breath) AT THE SAME TIME is HUGE. Their lungs must be MASSIVE.
All of that also; the song is Sing, sing, sing (with a swing). If you wanna listen to some of THE SPICIEST big band ever recorded. Its a big hard song and this band does it expertly.
Not to mention that
- every woodwind player in that band ABSOLUTELY jammed their reed into their soft palate at least once during rehearsals, and
- the hardest thing to maintain when playing an instrument when your breath control starts to slip is volume. And they have MULTIPLE major volume changes/crescendos
if you dont decouple your drive to create from your desire for attention you will go insane. simple as. you will never feel satisfied b/c you will always want more and you will feel perpetually bitter that you did not get what you are “owed”
It’s an unpopular opinion but it is absolutely and completely true. I’ve never seen someone who creates for engagement happy with the engagement they get. I posit they can’t ever be happy that way because it will NEVER be enough
I agree with OP and Manka so very much.
You have to rest in your own desire to create.
But, because I see statements like this turn into a sort of general notion of “it’s bad to want validation or attention or engagement”, and to me, that’s not what this means.
It’s perfectly valid to want people to like and engage with what you create. In a general sense, when you create anything, you do it to share with other human beings. Art, craft, food, anything you create is a way to connect with others through our shared humanity.
And wanting someone to like you fanart or read your fanfic is part of that.
the words used by OP is decouple, and this is important. Nothing wrong wanting engagement. But it cannot be tightly coupled with the drive to create.

Thinking of a point-of-divergence timeline where Yerin learned a hunger technique/used a hunger construct in Reaper/Dreadgod, getting used to hunger earlier and standing on a level with Lindon.
She spent some time with the Eight-Man Empire in Dreadgod, hunting down various monsters left in the wake of the Bleeding Phoenix — Blood Shadows, mostly, but some others. She could have taken the blood/hunger (and sword) madra from them, drawn more power out, gotten to Archlord and peak Herald earlier.
And the best part of this idea is, to me, that she would be more vulnerable to the Phoenix. And here is where she ascends to Monarch — by commanding a division between herself and the Phoenix, obtaining the Sword Icon. There’s a lot of cool uses for this Icon that we never got to see in canon, and I think this would really fit.
In canon, Lindon is already a master Soulsmith, and on top of that surpasses Yerin in combat ability by the last two books (and un-Enforced strength??). It works, but I’d like to see them stand equal. Frankly, Lindon getting massive doses of strength from his diet (book 5 eating poisonous carp, book 8 eating Crusher) feels like a massive disservice to the others. Yerin got a few really useful things from the Uncrowned King tournament that should have catapulted her own development as well. And I know Lindon’s thing is advancing at full speed, but considering how much time he’s got to spend Soulsmithing, I think Yerin should at least keep pace in terms of advancement. (Sorry to Mercy who’s just left in the dust in this hypothetical)
I’ll actually fold this into the same alternate timeline where she gets her completed sword madra pill at the end of book 3.
As much as I love canon. I tend to agree that the ending of Waybound did a disservice to the rest of the crew by having Lindon so greatly outpace everyone else due to his Dreadgodness, and leaving Yerin behind in particular stung.
The story set up plenty of theming around advancing together, being a team, growing together, "we will never stop" etc, for the ending to let that go the way they did.
That's not to say that Will abandoned it entirely, but still... Lindon both leaving them behind in power and then physically being left behind felt contrary to the themes.
I was a longtime believer in the Eight Man Empire theory. Lindon found out about them all the way back in Unsouled, and he frequently spent time tinkering with and soulsmithing armor. Between the Skysworn armor, Daji and Kiro's armor, his armor in Winter steel, etc. I always felt like there was setup for him to make his own Eight Man Empire armor that the team would use to take on forces stronger than themselves with.
saw someone say that they don't read fics under 10k and had to laugh because more fool you, that is where all the bangers are. obviously I'm biased but truly nothing hits like a 1.5k fic with a lowercase title from some obscure poet where nothing actually happens and yet you emerge blinking with a completely new outlook on the character. infinitely rereadable. like a perfectly crafted pastry. I'm gobbling them up!
If the gods wanted people to only read large fics they wouldn't have given us the ability to craft 600 word daggers to stab readers in the heart with.

IDK who needs to hear this but if there's something in your life that makes you feel better, but you never stick to it,
it's still actually perfectly fine to do it
and you shouldn't stop yourself from starting just because it won't be a permanent change.
Like if starting a new daily planner gives you an amazing afternoon of planning and four days where you feel in charge of your life,
why not do it?
It doesn't matter that it won't be a permanent change - 4 good days is still worth it.
If you ever catch yourself thinking, "I wish I could pray/stretch/prep/plan/do the thing, but I always get started on that and it never lasts more than a couple of days,"
what this really means is, "hey, I can feel better for a couple of days."
if this post is making you think of things in your own life that you wish you could stick to because of how good they make you feel,
just be aware:
you're not thinking of a list of ways you've failed to commit
you're thinking of a list of things that make you happy, and you should give yourself permission to start doing them as often as you want to
I currently have five chapters written ahead between two fanfics.
I desperately desire to post one of them.
I am practicing developing the willpower not to do so. With the goal of eventually reaching a backlog of three completed chapters per fic before posting.
I am doing this because I keep writing myself into holes that require editing previously written chapters, and something that is just previously written instead of previously posted is much easier to edit.
This is excruciating for me, but I will persevere.

for years now my laptop charger has reliably broken every 6 months. admittedly i keep replacing it with the cheapest possible generics, but I've tried differed brands and ALWAYS, 6 months in Death knocks impatiently at my door, its skeletal hand outstretched demanding yet another goddamn power cable. the only feasible explanation is i pissed off a witch. the alternative is that i'm the problem, which seems unikely

Humor aside. Don't buy another USB-C laptop charger. Buy a USB-C power adapter rated for the same power needs as the laptop, Anker makes high quality ones. Then you can easily replace the cable if it wears out.
The power adapter is the expensive part, the cable is cheap, but the cable is always going to fray first. Plus, you can buy a braided cable, or a right-angle cable which are less likely to break in the same way depending on how you use your laptop, and you can get whatever length of cable is convenient for you.
holy shit you've circumvented the witch's curse. yeah it's the same cable that gives out on me. replaceable parts that so fucking sexy. I'm assuming I just buy one that's the same wattage (65W) as my laptop needs? damn that witch is gonna be PISSED
You can buy one stronger than your laptops needs if you want. Devices these days are smart enough at power management to only take what they need, so a 100w charger won't brick your laptop or anything, but 65w will work perfect.
The only other thing is that not all USB-C cables are created equally. The form factor is standardized, the insides are not, some shitty, cheap, cables are only rated for data not power, or for low power needs. You can search for charging cable to make sure you get one intended for power transfer.
This witches curse effected me for years on end before I discovered this. I'm happy to foil their efforts once more.
