Brian Eno’s graphic notation for Ambient 1: Music for Airports (1979)
For the 1st drop in my Birds of America collection I had to go with the iconic Minnesota state bird and my personal favorite, the common loon. I couldn't imagine starting this series off with any other species.

my notifications are once again devolving into a spirited debate about the ethics of actions that could potentially make someone uncomfortable, and at risk of sounding like someone about to get a lot of irate anons I think we're frankly giving way too to much moral weight to hypothetical discomfort
the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.
there's not a single example I could give that's better than this

'Distant Night'. Hanno Karlhuber. 2000.
its cool that sometimes people try to have one kid and accidentally have two kids. flavorful. more things should work like that. get married and suddenly there's a second wife. pass the interview and end up with two jobs. etc. keep em guessing

Robert Borlase Smart - Moonlight on the Grand Canal, Venice (ca. 1924)
In April 1924, Smart and his wife accompanied George and Minnie Turland Goosey on a visit to Venice. Minnie recorded, “We arrived in Venice at midnight with a full moon turning the place into an artist’s dream of heaven. It was as if it had all been rehearsed and timed perfectly. Around each turn in the smaller canals, we passed other gondolas whose occupants were singing softly, some to the accompaniment of mandolins, and there were those who were silent like ourselves just drinking in the beauty of it all. Moonlight in Venice is wonderful. George told me afterwards B.S., our Artist friend, unconsciously held his hand in a firm grip murmuring, ‘I can’t believe its true, it must be a dream’. This painting, which was hung at the Paris Salon in 1927, aims to capture that moment and is a very daring composition. (source)
