A trader? That’s different. In a good way. Consider his interest piqued. Chase’s eyebrows raised as he listened further. Two or three days wasn’t a terribly long time. Maybe a house warming gift was in order? Chase made a mental note to bake this stranger some cookies or something.
Chase altered his body language, shifting his weight to one hip and visably relaxing.
“Oh, not long. I’ve only been here three weeks or so? Enough time to set up a store of my own,” Chase answered. “I’m interested in your job though. What sort of things do you trade?”
“ Oh ! “ James exclaimed, the others words immediately catching his attention, feeling more at ease now that the other seemed to be slightly more welcoming. “ You have your own shop ? “
He was cut off from asking more questions about the matter as Chase spoke, his train of thought instantly switching to his own job. “ Necessary things that are not normally found in small islands such as these, of course ! As well as traditional items from many other places that people could use if they ever need to. “
“ At the moment I only sell a small variety of things– I just arrived, after all– such as cloths from my hometown, as well as utensils and working stations. ” The merchant continued to explain, “ but if you ever need anything that you can’t get here, I’m willing to perform specialised orders ! “
“I have a whole list of things I’d like to special order,” Chase chuckled. “Do you accept cash? I don’t own a check book. I do have my own shop, an animal store. Cows destroy everything you know? I need a roll of electric wire, a milking machine, and so on. Do you know not a single one of these stores on this island carries televisions?”
Chase was rambling, but he sort of didn’t care. He didn’t get out much any more, and frankly, this was exciting.
“Where are you from, by the way?”
