one of the best things about hollanov is how jock4jock hornybrained they are for each other. every single time they hit their home gym together it's foreplay. they probably have to alternate using the centaurs' gym because they simply cannot be professional about seeing the other one work out
regarding lonley and touch starved shane one of my favorite things hudson said about shane and his relationship with his parents is that even tho they are deeply involved in his life they dont know him or he doesn't feel comfortable around them he doesn't share his fears or his worries with them bc they just don't have that relationship
I remember him saying that rose is the first person (outside of ilya) shane felt comfortable with which is just soooooo ughhhhh sad like he was 25(?) at the time and he never had a deep honest conversation about his life with anyone so to me its not surprising that he confused that with romantic love bc like he is truly been alone for most of his life
queer loneliness is such a big thing and its soo isolating i don't think anyone understands how traumatising it is obviously reid doesnt that's why she says shane has no trauma like come onnn
anyway I love fics of teen shane navigating life
Ugh, Hudson. I love him so much for everything he's said about Shane I really do.
And like, yes, queer loneliness is definitely a major thing with Shane but Shane's loneliness is also compounded by being a poc in an extremely white sport and by being autistic which like, altogether would just make him susceptible to extreme loneliness I think and like I said, I think this puts into perspective a lot of Shane's character. Could have been put to incredible use in tlg but no. Ffs.
okay so I've been seeing a bit of chatter re: these are very wealthy men who would Not Be Doing household & life management tasks—that would be outsourced bc rich. house manager, private chefs, personal shoppers, nannies, dog walkers, etc; they likely have Staff. that plus the knowledge that pro athletes have to report their location at all times for doping testing means that the entire time they're sneaking around, People Would Know
now I'm trying to imagine how that plays into the runaways au—is their housekeeper at the halfway house sworn to secrecy, or do they have a house where they genuinely do the domestic tasks themselves? how do they manage groceries—is it a 'i order my usual to "my house," then bag it up and bring it home every week' situation?? do they have to spend time undoing the facade of their lives every day/week in order to live while maintaining said facade?? something about that makes me Feel Things. depending how much work they put into it, and how many layers of caution they have, it could be a Whole Thing
imagining David finding the housekeeper that Shane used for his MTL apartment, and what their answers about his habits would tell him, if they answered at all.
"mr Hollander was a model client, basically just needed to dust and do a few dishes every week. he liked his meal prep to *not* be unpacked, just placed in the bags within the fridge. no, I never questioned why he would then have me wash all of the dishes as a batch. it was almost like cleaning a show home that someone crashed in every once in a while, really. no, he was very insistent that I only come in the specified times, and be gone by them, too. if I had to be late, he'd rather I miss a day. easiest client I had, paid very well. i think he got into minimalism pretty hard in the last few years, made the dusting easier. only complaint is that I wish he'd given me more notice, that was a bit rude to just terminate services, even with the agreed upon payout that he'd put into that year's contract, new addition but I'm glad it was there now."
idk, just the intersection of having the kind of fuck-you money needed to pull this off vs. the personnel accoutrements that said fuck-you money comes with, especially if you're trying not to stand out as Doing A Different Thing makes me think.
Okay I love all of this!! Yes they are doing their own chores in the half-way house, yes they would have house keepers for their apartments! I imagine Shane has every layer of caution IMAGINABLE no one will be tracing him to that house. Every I is dotted, every T is crossed. Ilya is more relaxed. So he has another home somewhere deeper in Ottawa he doesn't even let staff into. Who cares? not his team, they like their captain they don't need to be in his business as long as his drug tests come up clean. (This helps the Ilya ran away to Russia for drugs narrative. Clearly he was already doing shady shit.) The house keeper is giving this testimonial to the police not to David cause of the signed NDA but all of the above yes. oh my god this is so funny and so accurate. "he was just a minimalist, I suppose" dsjfdsjfdsf. Him just fucking leaving without like any real notice. pfft. oh Shane did that yeah. The halfway-house (great name i'm keeping it) is under Ilya's name so Ottawa like could 'know about it' but they don't really snoop I think. By the time it would have been looked at post Ilya disappearance (if at all Ilya wasn't really looked for when he disappeared) it would just look like an empty investment property he never took advantage of.
I am not huge on logistics of all of this as I am not a sports person. but I'm sure we can find a way to keep them all safe. David finding the police second hand report and not knowing how much is accurate cause its a half-assed summery with classic police incompetence. He's grasping at the implications anyway. Yuna just snarls that it just shows he's been planning this all for a long time.
Imagine how insufferable Ilya and Shane will be as a couple once Shane gets good enough at Russian that they can use it to have little private side conversations when everyone is just hanging out and they're always making little comments and then snickering at each other and refusing to explain what the joke is
Runaways AU masterpost
Original Post
Shane and Ilya who never come out to Shane’s parents. Shane and Ilya who are careful through out their whole careers. Yuna who sobs over the son who disappeared a month after he retired. David who doesn’t stop looking.
Everything I write for the runaways AU will be under the #runaways au tag. but I wanted to make a master post for official parts so new people know they're not missing anything major!

There's, like, other stuff... but its either going to become a larger post and become irrelevant later on, or i didn't think it contained enough lore to need to be here. (but if you're wanting to deep dive and read everything its all tagged!)
Runaways AU
Ilya sat on the bed, a breakfast tray covered in paper over his lap. Shane was pressed into his back, so close their breathing had no choice but to sync.
Ilya licked another letter and sealed it closed. "Are you sure you don't want to do this. It is fun." His tone was somber, but Shane knew he meant it. He just didn't have the energy to express himself at the moment.
"No way!" Shane replied quickly, handing a de-backed stamp to Ilya on his finger. "I have tasted nothing grosser in my life."
Ilya delicately took the stamp and positioned it in the right-hand corner before placing the letter into the small pile forming. "I know that is not true."
Shane handed him another letters. "This cannot be the intended way to seal mail. Who decided that licking them closed was a good mechanism? Also why would I want to open something someone has licked?"
"You can just use water, but that is also no fun." Ilya picked up the last letter before Shane could hand it to him. On the back of the envelope, where Ilya had labeled to whom each letter belonged, was written 'свобода' "This one doesn't need to be sealed. It is for you." Shane took the envelope slowly from Ilya's hand and tilted to give him a slow kiss. "Should I open it now or later?" "Later. Please."
Shane leaned over to tuck the letter onto his night stand. "Okay."
The released pressure on Shane's stomach made him unfortunately aware of the time, and thus a different need. He unwrapped his legs from where they bracketed Ilya's and crawled off the bed.
"I need to make dinner." Shane's hands dragged across Ilya's shoulder, unwilling to stop touching his husband completely yet. "Do you want me to do the addresses or bring the phone book in here?" (After the first emergency baby sitting request they'd taken to keeping all the kids' addresses in written form).
Ilya raised up his hands to caress Shane's arm and give his husband more mobility. "Bring it in here?"
Shane nodded once. Their hands were locked at the wrists, causal and ardent. He mourned the loss of their last point of contact as he pulled away towards the kitchen.
-
"Okay they're ready!"
"Jinx," replied Shane, returning to the bedroom with a tray of steaming rice and vegetables. "I'll switch with you."
Ilya gave Shane a small smile and held out his tray of addressed letters."I think maybe I should do this more often…" Ilya whispered. "It helped."
Shane's chest could strangle his heart. He placed the food-tray on the bed and took the letter-tray from Ilya's hands, then leaned forward for a kiss. Ilya eyes were red, but he wasn't actively crying. He sat up to capture Shane's offered kiss. When they pulled apart Shane glanced down at the tray in his hands to find a note on the very top of the stack of letters, it read: 'you take such good care of me, thank you.' It didn't help Shane's chest.
"I'm going to put this in the kitchen and grab my dinner." Shane said quickly. He'd cry once the bedroom door shut behind him. - That evening Shane double checked the addresses and took all the letters to the mail box. Ilya was asleep when he settled down next to him and started reading his own letter. It was nothing he didn't already know, that Ilya loved him, that he always wished he could be more for Shane despite Shane's protests, that Ilya loved his life and wasn't going anywhere. Shane cried anyway. -
After a few days Shane called Jenny Figs again to make sure the letters had all arrived in one piece. Another few days after that Shane received a call back to ask if he'd go check his own mailbox.
-
Shane plopped down onto Ilya's resting form. "You should get up."
Ilya's blinked open. He hadn't been asleep. "Why?"
"I've been told to check the mail."
"Oh?"
"I think you should be the one to get it."
Ilya ran his fingers through Shane's forming bangs. Shane noted he probably needed a hair cut. "I would, but I'm a little trapped." Shane shoved his arms under Ilya's back, and pressed his face into his husband's chest. "Five more minutes."
Ilya grinned. "Okay."
- Inside the mailbox was a stack of papers weighed down by an assortment of almost a dozen colorfully painted rocks. Ilya dragged the rocks out first, cradling them like precious eggs in his palms. "Shane! They're the kids."
Sure enough, scrawled by an adult on the bottom of each rock was a name of one of the kids Ilya had sent letters to. There was even a tiny pebble painted green for the new baby Sterns. She was too younger to have painted it herself, Danny Sterns or his wife Figgy must have painted it for her. "That's cute." "ITS ADORABLE." Ilya slid the rocks into his pockets and pulled out the stack of papers. They were the kids attempts at return letters, so mostly drawings with big words scrawled on the top. Ilya flicked though the stake, too eager to take each one in fully. "Look there is a dog drawn on this one! It's labeled Ayna. Awe, I will need to teach Harper the correct spelling. It says get well soon on the back with me drawn sick!"
Shane noted the distinct lack of envelopes, or any type of real postage. "Isn't opening someone's mailbox a felony?"
Ilya's head slowly turned to silently admonish Shane with his eyes. Shane shut up. He figured the crimes against him for faking his death and running away would far out weigh a few kids opening a mail box.
Shane let his gaze fall indulgently to Ilya's face as he smiled at each new letter he uncovered.
"Shane, look. Taylor did three! Three!"
Now that he thought of it, Ilya hadn't shed a single tear all day.
Part 20 -> Part 21 -> Part 22
when does smoothie bucky lose his arm?
I think its spelled Kip?
Scott takes Kip out in the ice as a romantic date and but he's so elderly that his hip gives out, he falls and takes Kip down with him. He hits Kips arm with his skate blade and that's how Kip loses his arm.
Unless anon you have a funnier idea on how it happens.
Angst Button!
What if he gets in a car crash under similar circumstances as Scott’s parents and Scott has to relive his childhood trauma 🙂
Text I got from my guy friend who’s currently dating a man for the first time when I asked him how it’s going
Congratulations on the cat
I lived and worked in a lighthouse at a previous job. There was a thick line painted in a circle around the shack where the fog signal was kept. The line represented how close you could get to the fog signal without experiencing physical harm in the form of eardrums shattering or worse.
Even in the house it was LOUD. Probably the loudest thing I have ever experienced but at a normal, predictable interval. You would begin to time your sentences with little pauses with the rest of the lighthouse crew so you would talk like this while making your………..HORN…………. tea and then carry on talking because you knew when it would go off. It rattled the walls and the dishes in our cabinet.
At least one girl had died there. They kept photos of her everywhere “in honor of her sacrifice” because she had decided to take the winter watch alone and died in a storm where bounders the size of mini vans had been lifted out of the ocean and left scattered across the island, to say nothing of the ice chunks. People weren’t allowed to be alone on the watch after that.
One day a dead moose washed up on shore and it took my entire crew all day but we managed to rig up a line to hang it up to dry because we thought having a moose skeleton in the house would really spice the living room up a bit. It did. Weird shit happens when six of you are left alone, like ALONE ALONE, no cell reception, no wifi, just a radio to contact the real world and not a lot of reason to do that. People don’t go on lighthouse jobs if they want to stay connected, I’ve found.
That said Id do it all again, I really do treasure those days
you know you could’ve just said “no they don’t have wifi” and that would’ve answered the question
But then you wouldnt have known about the moose
When my mother forgets a word, she is the queen of coming up with new words. Words that would take a third National Treasure movie to fully decipher. I was talking to her yesterday, and she said this: “You know the time for los jibbities is coming up. You must be so excited!” Oh, is it time for los jibbities already? I must have missed it on my calendar. Are we celebrating something? “Of course! We should all be celebrating, shouldn’t we?” OK, so los jibbities is a happy thing. It’s not like something is giving you the heebie-jeebies, which would have been my one and only guess. “Los heebie-jeebies? Now you’re making things up...and this is my show.” You’re right. The time for los jibbities is coming up. Is this a season? “Yes, the season for love. The season for pride.” OK, los jibbities. “Yeah, sound it out.” Los…jibbities. LGBTs! “Sí, mira cuz you’re gay!” “You couldn’t just say pride season? You couldn’t just… *laughs*
HAPPY LOS JIBBITIES EVERYBODY!!!
The time for Los Jibbities has arrived!
I spent so much of my life romanticizing the Great and Powerful Enormity of the Sea, reading about the salt and the sweat of the sailors straining to haul the sails or anchor while dreading the monsters in the cold, icy deep fathoms below…and now you tell me that a fathom is only 6 feet deep -
Six feet is still more than enough for a grave.
Hi, that is the most metal addition you could have possibly made to this post
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
it's been said a thousand times but "male loneliness epidemic" is just our entire generation's loneliness PANdemic. it's just the crisis of capitalism. almost all young people these days are lonely and depressed because of the crisis and decay of the system we live under and tbh the centering of "male loneliness" in this discussion is embarrassing but also a really understandable consequence of sexism & this current stage of culture war . "Oh won't someone think of the young men" oh won't someone think about class consciousness lol
I think one of the gentlest things in the world is when a friend just gets your weird little brain. like you say half a sentence and they finish it. you reference something incredibly niche from seven years ago and they’re already nodding. they understand your strange vocabulary for emotions that don’t have real words yet. it’s being seen and known and still loved. maybe especially because you’re known. god. what a gift.
