It’s okay that you don’t know about my own personal experience with body image issues or body expectations that I’ve faced in the gay community - but I do hope you consider that next time. My intention was only to come from a place of acceptance, to discuss my own perspective, and to encourage self love - regardless of size or gender. (Readers, do not send this person any negativity, it just felt like something I should clarify openly in case others took this tweet (or my second one) a wrong way.) <3

A wonderful thing to keep in mind as we are bombarded all the time with how we should look, both male and female, regardless of any social, cultural, whatever circle you belong to.  Personal opinion: THIGH GAPS ARE STUPID.  Be healthy, but remember being healthy isn't purposefully making yourself look a certain way. Look at the extreme photoshop video if you need any reassurance that what we look up to isn't what is real.

Corsodyl mouthwash- UK (oh look at the pretty lady getting ready to go out, but what? Mouthwash ad? How does this even...? I don't get... Sure.)

SO, this is the shortened version of one of EE mobile's advertisements using Kevin Bacon as the star.  For those unfamiliar with EE, it is a cell phone (mobile phone) company in the UK.  Why would Kevin Bacon be doing advertisements for a cellular company in the UK? Obviously because they offered him a nice chunk of change to do them, and if you want your product to sell, there is no better way to try and do so than by using a celebrity.  Now, I am unsure as to how popular Kevin Bacon is in the UK, but obviously popular enough to want to use him.  Want to know the best part about this commercial?  I first saw it at the movie theater while I was in Manchester.  You know how in American theaters we have things like Screen Vision that play before the trailers and movie start?  Well, the same goes in the UK, except not quite the same.  The designated start time for films means time for roughly 30 minutes (yes, I did time it) of advertisements, then trailers, then the feature film.  Unless you are late, you cannot escape sitting through so many advertisements, some of which will play twice through.  Some were downright strange as well, which will be posted above this post.  Keep in mind, celebrities sell and sex sells.  Doesn't matter the product.  The point is to capture your interest and make you think about the product, whether you purchase it or not.

Photoshopping in ads is by no means new, or really surprising.  It is always shocking to see the extent of some of the shops, though.  And, WHY WOULD ANYONE PHOTOSHOP JENNIFER LAWRENCE?! She is gorgeous and looks healthy! Nobody needs to be photoshopped, but of all the people, Jennifer Lawrence definitely looks perfect without it.  She is too thin when they touch up the pictures, and when she is one of the more outspoken female celebrities on girls and body image at the delivery of the media, what does this say?  This is probably one of the many reasons there is a gross amount of beauty products and cosmetic services out there for both men and women. Will it ever end?!

Tumblr is seriously creating a generation of moralists who have nothing positive to say about anyone.

What if she had used white females? Would she have been white washing? And what if white dancers were “twerking”? Would you talk about cultural appropriation?

Please take a look at the video and notice the little man trying to tell her and the dancers what to do: he plays an important part in the video.

He is playing those people in the music industry who tell female singers that they need to be sexy and stuff to be successful, and he is also the one guiding the dancers.

He criticises her for having the body of a mother of two, he tells the dancers how to move their ass, and also tells her what expressions to make while cleaning the wheel rim.

Listen to the words. They’re fucking good.

Why would you even try and prove a point by discrediting another relevant point. Lily Allen didn’t have to use all black women she could have used women of all colors and sizes, especially if she’s proving a feminist point. YES! If the white women were twerking that would have been cultural appropriation deal with it, and quit trying to talk over WoC when they point out problems in white feminism and the lack of intersectionality.

Hello, hello! This little blog will be on going until I stop, I suppose.  I have been very intrigued by the things I have seen and experienced so far since taking JUS 494 Consumerism and Justice.  Everything I post is what I have seen in the United States and UK.  These are my opinions from my interactions with our consumer society!  With all that being said, I hope you enjoy, or at least find interesting, the things I see.
