Cupcake Drawstring Bag
Notes:
Chains do not count as 1st stitch in row.
The bottom will bulge out a little, this is normal. You can flatten it by stretching the bottom before creating the sides of the cake.
Get creative with it! Use beads/buttons to embellish your little cake.
Any yarn will work with this pattern. However, depending on the gauge and hook used the bag will come out bigger/smaller than if you had used the recommended materials.
The drawstring instructions are meant to be a guideline on how to add the string. If you have another method you want to use, go for it!

Row 8: Ch 2. 1 FPDC in each DC around, slip stitch into 1st DC chain. Sl St into Ch 2. (42 stitches, 1 chain 2 strand)
At this point the edges of the cupcake should be standing up. Figure 4 shows how the edges should look like at this point.

Switch colors to cake color.

Figure 5 shows where the front loop/back loops are for this part of the pattern.
Figure 6 shows the end of Row 14.

Row 16 - 24: Ch 1. 1 HDC in all stitches. (42 st)
Weave in ends.
Adding drawstring:
Cut a piece of ribbon ~20inches in length. Can also create a chain ~20inches in length. In 2nd row from top (Row 23), weave in and out every 3rd stitch. Leave 4 st between both ends of drawstring.
Figures:
Sl St. into Ch 2:
Each row requires you to Sl St the yarn into the beginning Ch 2/Ch 1 stitch for each row. This can be confusing, so this is a detailed explanation on how to do so. Note that Figure 1 and 2 show a beginning Ch 2, but this method is still valid for the ‘cake’ part of the bag.
1) Figure 1 shows what you would see when you are ready to move onto the next row. Make sure you are able to see your beginning Ch 2/Ch 1 stitch.
2) Figure 2 shows how to create the Sl St. Using your hook, go behind the Ch 2 stitch (as if you were going to create a FPDC). Pull the yarn behind this Ch 2 stitch.
3) Figure 3 shows what your piece should look like when you’re done. From here, you can continue the Ch 2/FPDC repeats.

Creating the sides of the cake
Figure 4 shows how the sides of the cake should be worked up when doing the FPDC/BPDC repeats.
Figure 4: Working the sides
Creating the scalloped edge
This step requires you to work the scalloped edging in the front loop of each stitch.
1) Identify the front and back loops of each stitch. Figure 5 shows where they are if you’re having trouble.
2) Continue on with the pattern from here, making sure to work only in the front loop.
