I want to say too in most countries you can drive before youre 18. You often take a class when youre 15 or 16 and can drive with supervision. Driving a car is a LOT of responsibiktiy and ill be the first to admit i cant drive but some 17 year olds can drive and have been for a few years.
In a lot of cultures being an adult was something that happened to you VS an age. Like you got your first hunt, or whatnot. It was something with life experience to gradute into.
In the past children had a lot more agency and yes a lot of it was due to expecations of labour from their parents, which definately needs to be questioned but you look at especially usa (because thats where a lot of you are posting from) and minors are criminalized for hanging out. Places like malls are destroyed. People carry a sentiment that teenagers are fucked up and will hurt them (instead of the reality an oppressed class that cannot be silenced and is rightfully disgruntled). They are not seen as capable anymore just annoying. That needs to change.
I am NOT advocating for: children labour, children to have sex with adults or children to be tried like adults in prison (im also an abolishinist...)
I'm saying children need to be treated with more respect, some of them can even drive cars!!! (And if they cant it does get into the freedom of movement since they would likely have to ask for rides which can be demoralizing).
Sure there are things kids shouldnt do until theyre older but they need the education and awareness to make their own choices, have the ability to process their own emotions and in general learn about things from a informed perspective not just "Never Ever Do This." Because lets be honest, that wont work and just sounds like parents.
