Not going to lie, these last couple of days have been really really rough.
Oh my, it's been almost a week since I posted anything. I guess it's time for an update: I ran intervals on Monday and Wednesday, and a nice 3 miles with BOMF on Friday. It's been hot and humid here this week, so these runs were sweaty to say the least. I have seven miles planned for tomorrow. I strength trained on Wednesday and Thursday. I tried out a couple of new Nike Training Club workouts. My abs still hurt. Half hour walks during my lunch break at work and bike rides to get around the city are keeping my head clear and my mood up. I finalized my travel arrangements for the second leg of my November runDisney adventure (eep!). Oak trees are pretty great.
Every. Day.
Every time I come home from a run and toss my sweaty shirt onto the floor, my cat crawls over and lays down on it like I put it there just for him. (6 miles in less than 60 minutes and I only got stopped by one light [mile 4].)
Cross training on Wednesday, 3 miles plus strength training on Thursday, another 3 miles with BOMF today, daily lunchtime walks at work, and getting creative with food (quinoa pizza bites!). Staying busy busy but feeling GREAT.

I think I need that tank top... Lookin' at you, Infinity Gauntlet Challenge.
Have you ever seen a little girl run so fast she falls down? Thereās an instant, a fraction of a second before the world catches hold of her again⦠A moment when sheās outrun every doubt and fear sheās ever had about herself and she flies. In that one moment, every little girl flies. I need to find that again. Like taking a car out into the desert to see how fast it can go, I need to find the edge of me⦠And maybe, if I fly far enough, Iāll be able to turn around and look at the world⦠And see where I belong.

Got in a quick three miles after work. They felt pretty great. Cooled down and added a few strength training exercises. Made some roasted eggplant and quinoa for dinner. All in all a lovely evening. I went on a half hour walk during lunch today and discovered a sweet little wooded path near where I work. I might just make a habit of it.

Twenty three miles. My legs hate me. I hate me.
Just kidding.
I finished just over my goal time of five hours, but considering it took me exactly five hours to run 20 miles three weeks ago, Iām pretty pleased with todayās effort.
I set up an āaid stationā at my house and planned three back-to-back runs (8 miles, 8 miles, and 7 miles) that brought me home to refuel and refill my bottles. I had Gatorade on the road at mile 4, gel and water at mile 8, and Gatorade at mile 12. By mile 16 I was feeling a little queasy from all the sugar, so I just had water, then some jelly beans and water at mile 20.
I slowed down considerably for the last six miles and experienced two things that had never happened to me before. First, I got stitches in my side during mile 18 that WOULD NOT GO AWAY. I tried some deep, measured breathing which usually does the trick. When that didnāt work I just ended up walking it off. Then I got a wicked, pulsating calf cramp at mile 22. I actually had to stop, stretch, and walk a little ways.
So no, I didnāt finish as strong as I would have liked, but hey, at least I finished.
Iām having a lot of fun planning out these long runs. Just one more before the taper (eep!).
The days are definitely getting shorter. Looking east just before and after my 5:45 am run with BOMF. It seems like it was so much lighter out when we met up this time last week. I ran intervals last night and 3.8 miles this morning and I am stoked for this weekend's long run.
Cheers tumblr. It's the ten year anniversary of some sad stuff that happened. It's also the ten year anniversary of when I started running as a way to deal with death, and heartbreak, and large scale devastation caused by things like hurricanes and inadequate infrastructure. That's why I don't really consider this blog a fitblr. Running has only sometimes been about maintaining my physical health. It has always been about maintaining my mental health. And celebrating life, too.
Got 30 minutes in after work before it started storming. Iāve been on a James Bond kick for the past few months, so I geeked out a little bit over the title of the mission :)
An easy 7 miles on a hot/humid day, and now I'm sitting outside drinking iced coffee, eating cheese and crackers, and reading a book because I want to.
