Now that we have confirmation from Colin's mouth how much Pen not answering to his letters affected him and his behavior because he felt alone, missing her, abandoned by her and his family, their interaction in S3 part 1 becomes fascinating. I recommend you all to watch the entire season. With the knowledge we have, now that we know his feelings were already confusing him, it adds so much depth to his actions.
We know now that he was truly peacocking towards her when he went to find her and she was cold to him because of what happened S2E8. We know he was using his charm to try to work on her - because he hoped it worked, that it would charm her too - but was truly being genuine when he said "I Miss You". He had missed her, he misses her and he feels quite empty.
His apology and need to connect with her. Thinking that helping her would make her but also him, specially him, feel better, as she was with him, he felt good with her around. His vulnerability talking about LW shading him.
Then we see him realizing how much he loves her company, how much it bother him when her attention is on any other men. Him realizing that yes, missing her so much has a reason...Can you imagine his mind? And when he received praise and admiration from the very person he was craving attention? And it makes the hard fall when he discovers LW harder for him to swallow...because everything she said to him and that pleased him so much was a lie, because she's LW and LW talked badly about him.
I'm rewatching all episodes of season 3 and i'm having so many great moments with what we know about him now. and It makes his reticent behavior to kiss her even more sweet because it's almost like he's afraid it will confirm something to him, confirm he does have romantic feelings for her. He is insecure there too, because he already knows by then he's feeling something but she's asking for a kiss that will mean nothing, that she says it's just because he's a friend and she has never been kissed, nothing special to her, something practical. He wasn't down fast, i already didn't think so without knowing with spoken words, but now it's confirmed to us, he had been musing about his feelings for her for quite some time.
He thought he lost her and then he though he got her back and maybe even more so now that he can understand his feelings and have a chance to make her feel that way too, but she wants distance and that their kiss, that meant everything to him, will never happen again. And with Debling showing up and trying to take her away, to distance her even more, and she seems to like his attentions, must have been hell and Luke played that so well, the longing, the loss and the understanding.
Do it, watch it again with everything we now know about Colin, it makes everything so bloody great. There is whole summer where Colin was our Pen and now we have a very good glimpse of that, when we look at everything now with his perspective in mind.

TW: vomit
Despite my best efforts, I can’t fall asleep. Ginny turned the lights out an hour ago, but I’m still tossing and turning in the dark, listening for any sign of life inside the Burrow. Tonight has been one of the strangest nights I’ve ever spent here, what with Ron taking off to spend the night out with his brothers for Bill’s stag party. Ginny helped me pack while we chatted about boys, and it was nice to feel like a typical teenage girl for once.
As much as I enjoyed Ginny’s company, I missed Ron, which was ridiculous because it was only for an evening. Am I that far gone that I can’t bear to be without him for longer than a few hours? We’re not even together! Yet no matter how many times I tell myself he’s fine, and I’ll see him in the morning, my brain refuses to settle and succumb to sleep.
Throwing the thin covers back, I swing my legs around the side of the bed, slide my feet into my slippers, and make my way downstairs. I make it halfway down the stairs when I realize I forgot my book and double back to retrieve it. It’s a good thing, though, because as I place my hand on the door handle, I hear the back door open, and I can only assume the Weasley brothers are stumbling in.
My heartbeat quickens as I slip back into Ginny’s room, leaning against the door as I listen with rapt attention. I have to strain my ears, but I can hear sniggering getting louder and footsteps beginning their ascent, leading the attached bodies to their bedrooms. As the footsteps come closer, all of a sudden, there’s a retching noise and someone hitting the wall as they lurch into the bathroom. It sounds as though they’ve made the toilet, and I suppress the tut at the thought of the Weasley brothers drinking far too much.
“Ugh, Mum’s gonna kill me,” Bill slurs, his voice a little louder than a whisper. “You okay, Ronniekins?”
Oh, no. How much did he have to drink?
Another heave as Ron empties the contents of his stomach into the toilet.
“‘m fine, go away,” Ron’s voice is warbled by the porcelain of the toilet, and I’m surprised I can even make out what he’s saying.
“You su—”
“Go away!”
Bill doesn’t bother responding as I listen to him retreat up the stairs. After waiting a moment or two, I open the door to Ginny’s room and tiptoe across the hall. Ron’s nose-deep in the toilet, so he doesn’t hear me approach. I should probably retreat and just go to bed now that I know he’s home, but I can’t stop myself. Not when he’s feeling like this.
“R-ron? Are you alright?”
He groans, and the toilet bowl causes the sound to echo louder than he intended. “Go away, ‘Mione.”
Even though he uses the same words on me, they aren’t as harsh as they sounded when he addressed his brother. With me, they sound more...embarrassed? But why? Does he not want me to see him like this?
“Ron, you’re sick. You shouldn’t be left alone.”
“Yeah, but I don’t—” his sentence is cut off by another violent bout of sick.
Merlin, how much did he drink?
In an attempt to be proactive and not focus so much on the vomiting, I step around him and open the medicine cabinet. There must be a potion in here that will take away the nausea and settle his stomach. I don’t see any potions to do the trick, but it does look like the twins have left a box of the puking pastille antidotes that just might do the trick.
After taking one of the chews out of the box, I turn to Ron, who is resting his head on the toilet seat.
“Think you can manage eating this?”
“Hermione, I don’t think I should be eating anything…”
“It’s the purple side to the Puking Pastille. I found it in the medicine cabinet, and I think it’ll help you stop.”
He takes the chew from my hand and turns it over in trepidation.
“Just eat it, Ron.”
Shaking my head at his reaction, I turn and look around to see if there’s anything that will help him feel better. There’s a stack of folded towels on the shelf next to the shower, and I’m reminded of how my mum would help me feel better whenever I was ill growing up.
The thought sends another wave of grief through my body as I pull a flannel off and wet it with cold water at the sink. I wring out the excess water, and I catch Ron popping the purple piece in his mouth as I step back toward him. He leans back and collapses against the tub. I sit on the ledge of the tub next to him and place the wet flannel on the back of his neck.
“Here, my mum always used to give me one when I wasn’t feeling well.”
Ron flashes a weak smile as his head tilts to rest against my leg. “Thanks.”
We sit there in silence as a multitude of questions flash through my mind. Did he have a good time? How much did he drink? What’d they do?
But none of those questions ever leave my lips. There’s a time and a place, even though things grow more confusing by the day between us. We’re not together, but it feels like we’re together, but neither of us make any effort to discuss what’s going on. Instead of attempting to gain any answers tonight, I glance down at Ron. His face is slowly regaining color now that the vomiting is under control.
“Feeling any better?”
“Yeah, loads.”
“Good.”
“What are you doing up?”
“Couldn’t sleep.”
“Well, I’m glad you’re here, even if I could have done without you witnessing the vomiting.”
“Ron, I watched you throw up slugs for me in second year, or have you forgotten?”
He looks up at me, and we both break out into a fit of giggles. We’re interrupted when Bill returns a few moments later.
“Hey, Ron, I didn’t hear you come up yet. Just checking to see how you were—oh. Guess you didn’t need me to follow up.”
“Oh!” I can feel the heat flush in my cheeks at Bill catching us together in the bathroom. “I should, um, get to bed now. I’m glad you’re feeling better, Ron.” I stand up and make my way out the door.
“Er, right, yeah. Thanks.” Ron runs a hand through his hair as he uses the edge of the tub to help himself up.
I watch his movements from outside Ginny’s door, and catch Bill’s smirk as he turns and disappears around the corner of the stairwell.
“I’ll see you in the morning?” Ron asks, now that he’s made it to the doorway of the bathroom.
We stand there for a moment, and I bite my lip, hoping that he might give me a goodnight kiss or something, even though he probably tastes of stale beer and vomit.
I must be in too deep if I still want him to kiss me after that.
“Yes, of course,” I say, pulling myself away from those thoughts. “Goodnight, Ron.”
Turning the door handle, I slip back into Ginny’s room, a new sense of calm rushing over me as I’m finally growing tired.
“Night, Hermione. Thanks for tonight.”
I smile in the darkness as I shut the door, knowing my dreams will be a little sweeter tonight.
Five Times Harry Cockblocked Ron and Hermione Over the Years and the One Time They Got Him Back
Summary: Five moments between Year 3 and Post War where Harry ‘un'knowingly blocked any advances Ron and Hermione were making in their relationship, and one time they returned the favor.This will be presented in 6 installments. Enjoy!
Year 3:
The wind whipped around Ron and Hermione as they trudged up the street towards the village. Hermione always felt bad that she and Ron had to leave Harry behind on Hogsmeade weekends, and they’d even considered staying back this time, but then it was agreed that they had to do some Christmas shopping, and decided to make a short day of it for that purpose.
As they walked toward the shops, she couldn’t help the familiar feeling of excitement bubbling up. It was something she experienced every time she and Ron happened to spend time alone together, mostly when Harry was off at quidditch practice. She couldn’t deny that she was beginning to feel something…more for her best friend. Having these moments alone with him made her feel special, like he wanted to spend just as much time with her, too, even if Harry wasn’t around.
As they took care of their shopping, Hermione paid close attention to the things Ron was looking at. She knew he loved quidditch and chocolate, but felt as though she’d exhausted those options for every other holiday and birthday. She wanted this year to be different.
“No way!” he exclaimed as they were browsing Quality Quidditch Supplies.
“What?”
“They have Cannons merch!”
“Cannons?”
“The Chudley Cannons. They’re my favorite quidditch team, even though they’re at the bottom of the league every year. That doesn’t matter to me, though…” he trailed off.
“Oh, I didn’t know that!” Hermione acknowledged, taking note of the singular rack of bright orange Chudley Cannons t-shirts.
A plan formed in Hermione’s mind as she figured out exactly what she would get him this Christmas. She told Ron she was going to the counter to purchase the gift she grabbed for Harry, and while there, sneakily had the shopkeeper get one of the Cannons shirts for Ron. Once finished with her transaction, she made her way to the door, where he was waiting for her.
“Have anywhere else you wanted to go?” he asked.
“No, I think I’m all set. What about you?”
“All good. So we should, er, probably head back up to the castle then?”
Did he sound like he didn’t want to go yet?
“Erm, yes, we did promise Harry we wouldn’t be out long today,” Hermione chewed on her lip.
“Next time, we’ll stop at the Three Broomsticks, and I’ll buy us Butterbeers,” Ron said.
“I’d like that,” Hermione’s heartbeat sped up at his offer.
“I can carry that if you want. Er, I mean—”
Ron held out his hand awkwardly at first with his offer, but pulled it back when Hermione shook her head quickly. “No! It’s fine! I mean—thank you, it’s just—I’d rather carry it, that’s all. It’s not that heavy,” she added.
“Oh, er alright,” he said as they began walking up to the castle.
It took longer than it had to walk down to Hogsmeade because the wind was fighting them every step of the way. Even with her heavy cloak, scarf, hat and mittens, Hermione was still frozen by the time they reached the castle. When they stepped out of the cold and through the large oak doors of the castle’s main entrance, they walked over to the far wall to catch their breath before heading up to the common room.
“It’s bloody cold out there! Should have cast a warming charm or something.” He set his packages down and rubbed his hands together.
Hermione’s teeth were chattering as she nodded in agreement. “Even though we’re n-n-not technically supposed to use m-m-magic outside the castle, I w-w-wouldn’t be opposed to that.”
Ron reached out and took his hands in hers. Hermione held her breath at the sudden contact, but welcomed it happily. His hands were much warmer than hers as he rubbed them together.
“Bloody hell, I thought I was cold. Hermione, your hands are like ice! I should have held that package so you could have kept your hands warmer.”
It wasn’t lost on Hermione at how sweet Ron was being. This sort of behavior was unlike him, and it made her wonder if maybe he was feeling something more between them, just like she was. No, that’s silly. He’s your best friend, and he’s always looking out for you. At least that’s what she was willing herself to believe so as not to get her hopes up.
Hermione was so lost in thought that she didn’t realize Ron had let go of her hands. She instantly missed the contact, until she saw his arms were outstretched, and it looked like he was going to wrap her in a hug to warm the rest of her up. She moved closer to him, and his arms were just closing around her when a familiar voice shouted to them from the stairwell.
“Ron! Hermione! You’re back!” Ron immediately jumped back as Harry came bounding down the stairs. “You’ll never guess…”
Harry clambered on, but Hermione was paying him no mind. She immediately missed the feel of Ron around her, even though it was barely a few seconds. Well, there’s always next time, I suppose, she hoped before turning her attention to her other best friend.
