This comes in to play once you have learnt which words are masculine and which words are feminine.

Un= a (masculine, this is when you talk about boys)
Une= a (feminine, this is when you talk about girls)
Un homme= a man (DO NOT pronounce the âhâ, it is= un omme)
Une femme= a woman (pronounced= une famme)
Un garçon= a boy (pronounced= un garson, use your best accent for the ç!)
Une fille= a girl (pronounced= une feeye)
