We make great records with the little we got.
Late NAMM show post. UBK Audio spot. The Clarphonic was amazeballs!!!
Some 2 BUS action for the mixes!!!
I didn't choose the studio life...it just kind of fell on my lap. I welcomed it.
Mastering
I love mastering!! is this thing on?
Currently working on a new endeavor....becoming a mastering engineer. I have taken the first steps...which is...well...mastering. So far no pisses off customers. Must be doing something right!!
All work and no play can make your ears numb. Once in a while it's good to get out of the studio and enjoy a great brew.
STUDIO WIRING
So for the last two days we have been wiring a studio at Whittier College. The studio is gutted and nothing has been installed. It's pretty awesome to be a part of the beginning phases of a recording studio. From the panels to the wire we will be installing it all.
No Sleep For the Wicked
So...it is Sunday actually Monday morning... 1:24 am to be exact and I should be in bed. Instead I have been going through all my old sessions files and began to remix and remaster some songs. It's not that I am bored. I learned so much that I want to compare my current style of mixing to my old style. There are a few that made me cringe. Let's see what happens. Should be posting some samples on the soundcloud page. Check out my website for some other work that I have done. www.lgsounds. com
Here’s an awesome plug in from UBK Audio. The Clariphonic DSP is a plug in that focuses on the lower frequencies and high frequencies making it ideal to put on a bus track or master bus for mastering. Don’t believe me? Check it out. UBK let’s customer try it for 10 days for free!! I have used it to master and let me tell you if the plug in sounds amazing I can just imaging how the actual box sounds like!!
Southern California Punk band, LIV ( Living In Victory), mixes aggressive vocals with fast drums and gnarly guitar riffs with the occasionally melodic vocals.
Buy this plug in!! Great plug in that can definitely crush overheads and add some beef to your mixes. It is only $99. That means that if you stop drinking shitty beer for a week or two then you can definitely pick this up. I use this guys to parallel compress drums, on the vocals to catch those peaks, on the master bus for mastering, and on my tacos too!!! This compressor can do light compression to hard slamming squashing. #cytomic #theglue #compressor #plugins
Dealing with Artitsts
Some are cool. Some are dumb as a door knob. Some are intelligent and some are border line narcissist. In any case, there is a fine line. We are after all human beings. When an artist crosses the line, I have no problem pulling my arm back and serving them a nice and wholesome pimp slap. I of course have this luxury. I work freelance and do not abide by any commercial studio rules. In a way I am cursed and blessed. I let the artist know I am there to tend to their needs but I am in no way shape or form a pin cushion. If they cannot execute their own music then they are not to blame the engineer for mic placement or mix issues. I simply tell them to STFU get back in the control room or tracking room and play it until it is right. I love not working for commercial studios.
