The 54th icon in your folder is your muse's reaction to someone saying 'I love you'
[Â Betty ]
heart felt like it was about to jump out of her chest, the tension in the air hung ripe enough to cut, similar to how they did with their words previously. with white knuckles holding the paper bag, using it for protection, she moved into the trailer, standing awkwardly by the sofa. she didnât exactly want to leave, but she couldnât stand this awful silence. but to her, words were difficult. like someone had just torn away her voice.
looking up at him, swallowing a mix of pride, and anxiety, she stutters to speak to him, still crying silently, as her body shakes with a ferocity that an earthquake would be proud of.  â iâm so sorry. â sheâs barely audible, struggling to hear her own words, especially through the heavy breaths and soft sniffs. she had never wanted to turn out like her parents eitherâ both trying to out-do each other by trying to rule with an iron fist. she just prayed that this was their grief exploiting their thoughts, turning them darker, and more paranoid than usual.
âDonât.â The word came out harsher and quicker than he would have liked, than he INTENDED. He quickly softened his voice again to that raw whisper, âJust donât.â He moved to the kitchen sink, moving around bottles still left sitting to run his hands under the water before rolling up the sleeves of the lather jacket to protect it from the water. The warm water quickly became a stinging sensation on the broken and bruised skin and Jughead was quick to emit a hiss of pain through gritted teeth. All the while, he didnât even glance at Betty, hoping that was a sign that she could just leave if she wanted.
He wasnât going to stop her. What right would he have in doing that after all he had said? He had been downright cruel in his words and they both knew it and he couldnât exactly BLAME Betty for her choice of words, either. He couldnât forgive her simply because Jughead saw nothing there that needed forgiving. Even as the harsh pressure of the water brought forth new blood from the cracked skin, only three words rang in his head::
You deserve it. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â You deserve it. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â You deserve it.
[Â Betty ]
she had only recently ceased the raging war of emotions inside her, drying her eyes with her sleeves, feeling pathetic and desperate as she sat on his doorstep. she couldnât believe that this had happened alreadyâ barely one day as part of the serpentâs, and now he believes heâs always been this thug. maybe, she thought as she sat in the cold waiting for him to return, she was looking at him through rose coloured glasses. maybe he had always been like this, and she was stuck in her perfect little world to see it clearly.Â
she heard her name spoken, a weaken, almost cautious voice that threw her off guard. she lifted her head from her knees, and saw him stood thereâ bloodied, and bruised, and with food? so thatâs where he had been. seeing him in this state uncaged her heartbreak again, and she simply burst back out into tears, unable to say anything to him. she wasnât scared of him right now, more grateful to see himâ grateful he would come back to her, even after her shallow digs and sharp words. with her face hidden in her scabbed palms, she nodded, encouraging him to move closer.
Jughead moved slowly towards the blonde, still cautious. His own eyes were red but he didnât care about that. It wasnât until he stood in front of her that he stopped, choosing not to sit beside her. He was still at a loss of what exactly to say; heâd thrown cruel words at her just as she had done to him but it was an echo of a past to Jughead. Of one involving his father and mother. Never physical violence but he could still recall the bitter arguments between them and it was something Jughead had never wanted for himself and Betty. One of the many reasons he had never really even sought a relationship before.
So, he chose not to speak for the moment, instead handing the bag of burgers to her (heâd lost his appetite somewhere along the way home) and moving to the door to unlock it for Betty to grab her things if she just wanted to leave. He couldnât blame her. Heâd probably do the same in her shoes. âI wanted to make sure you were safe in there when I left, so I locked the door,â he explained in a soft voice, trying to break the silence with SOMETHING,â This isnâtââ itâs not a good part of town. I wanted to keep you safe.â Now it was a question he had to ask himself: Safe from some seedy stranger or himself? Which was more dangerous?
[Â Betty ]
sheâs done. she knows he wonât listen to her anymore, and thereâs only so many accusations she can listen to. glancing back once more at the guy he had been hurting, she movedâ away from him. back turned, she let out a sob, balling her fists up, trying to hide just how frustrated she was. but she refused to break down in front of him now. if his pride was making him act this way, then her pride would close her off to him.
â do it then. â she mumbles, leaving him behind without a second glance. she made her way back to the trailer though, still not wanting to return homeâ plus, her stuff was at his. unable to get in through the window she left from however, she perched on the steps. a rush of emotions hit her, and she burst into tears, head resting on her knees as she sobbed. she knew he was upset, they both were. but he had pushed it too far, and honestly she was scared of him somewhat now.
The RAGE wasnât so quick to subside in Jughead over the whole situation. Not over Betty but her words that rang some sort of truth stung. He didnât chase after her, instead standing still. After a moment, once she was out of sight, he allowed his head to drop. His breaths were still far too quick and, in a last fit, sneakers slammed into the dirt kicking it like it was the enemy. Like it was the one that had brought the chaos in. Clifford for starting everything, the Sheriff for keeping his dad in jail, whoever had shot Fred. All of it in that one kick into the ground. Their faces may as well have been imprinted on the surface.
Jughead didnât even glance back at the man who was starting to get to his feet now that the danger had subsided. And Jughead didnât stop him, didnât CARE enough to. nstead, he started walking, burying bloodied hands in the pockets of his jacket. Where was he walking? God knows. He just had to walk SOMEWHERE before he lost his damn mind.
Even though he really already had.
It was an hour before he even returned to the trailer. One long hour and he was honestly surprised when his eyes landed on Betty. It was enough to stop him in his tracks. One hand, the bloodied one still, was still in his jacket pocket. The other held a crumpled paper bag; burgers like heâd originally promised. Not that he believed Betty would even still be there. Maybe it was just some sort of HOPE in his mind that she would be when he ordered two.
But he didnât approach any closer, standing a couple meters away from where she sat. Not a single step further in case she scurried away like a frightened rabbit. Not that Jughead could even blame her for it. âBettyâââ Where the fuck was he even supposed to start?
[Â Scott ]
Oh, Scott saw - thatâs part of where his worry stems from; seeing those claws start to slip from his fingers. Luckily, Jughead had gotten himself under control, but it could have been a lot worse. His brows furrow for a moment at his words, though, and he shakes his head. âI wouldnât ask you to just let the guy do that - Iâm more concerned about making sure youâve got your, you know, under control. I know it can be hard sometimes when youâre angry, thatâs all.â
It wasnât like he was some pup werewolf. Fingers brushed over his face in his exasperation. âLook, Iâm fine. I donât need help; Iâm not exactly part of your little âpackâ.â Of course, Jughead was well aware of where the concern stemmed from. If one gout outed, so did the rest. Maybe heâd been a bit too RASH. âYou canât tell me in the, what? Couple of years being a werewolf, youâve never had one angry moment?â Sorry, but we canât all be TRUE alphas.â As if the emphasize that, normally blue-green eyes flashed gold before reverting.
At least his tone had gotten somewhat calmer. Only slightly into one of more irritation than anger. âJust keep to your own pack, dude.â
[Â Betty ]
â so youâd happily take his life, despite that fact that he could be innocent? juggie, this isnât you. this is the grief overwhelming your senses. â she inhales sharply through her nose, and moves slowly towards him, extending her arm like offering an olive branch as a peace symbol.â iâm not saying youâre not trying, jug. but this is wrong. you are hurting someone you canât even confirm is guilty! â
her heart is stinging from this, especially with an audience experiencing every little jab. her head drops, fingers rubbing at her temples. â i was referring to earlierâ the first time you told me you loved me, jug. â she had managed to calm herself down, knowing that fire against fire just means somebody gets hurt.Â
she looks back down at the beaten guy, sighing as he lays there whimpering. looking back up to her boyfriend, she folds her arms. â look at him. i think youâve done enough damage today, jug, please. â
âBetty, in your little world, EVERYONE is innocent! And maybe this is me! Maybe Iâm not that broken guy that needs fixing or your constant attention!â His teeth were grit together, a small hiss of anger escaping them like that of a snake; oh, how apropos. âWould you be saying the same thing if it was the dickhead who trashed your locker? Maybe this is just me sending a message! Or maybe I just happen to care about what happened to Fred a bit more.â It was words spoken out of anger, out of grief and mourning. Had he been in any rational state of mind, it would have never even crossed his mind and certainly nothing Jughead would have DARED to ever say to her.
Jesus, this was getting out of hand. Why couldnât she just let it drop? This certainly didnât concern her! âONE of the reasons, maybe. But if you think thatâs it, then Iâm sorry, but you donât know much about me. I thought maybe, for once, there wouldnât be someone trying to change me.â Let people judge him, think what they want, but try to CHANGE him? It was constantly something Jughead would fight against. âSorry I canât be your innocent little Jughead anymore.â
He could walk away. Just one step and then another. But his feet were like lead, too heavy to lift to just leave and firmly planted on the ground. But his eyes did move away from Betty and not even towards the pained man on the dirt ground. No, instead they went to the Serpents. âWhat are you guys even still doing here? Get out!â A snake just lashing out at anyone, thatâs what Jughead was at that moment. A few murmurs and stares, some glares even thrown his way before they began to disperse and give Jughead a moment with just Betty.
âLook. this? This doesnât have anything to do with you, Betty. Anything involving the Serpents doesnât and this does. Got it?â Once again, he was focused on her, âI donât need your âhelpâ.Not this time. I have things handled.â
[Â Betty ]
â no. â she spoke with a firm voice, an eerie sense of cold emanating from her. she was fed up of everyone treating her like a little girlâ she had suffered enough to be thought of like that. watching him move back from her lit up some kind of fury in her, listening to him patronise her brought an anger she had never felt. in a swift motion, she shoves him further back, surprising amount of force behind her.Â
â donât you dare talk to me like iâm a child, jughead! i stood behind your dad every step of the way! i believed him from the start, just like you. i thought that was why you loved me? â her question was a low blow, but at this point she was past the point of no return. â are you one hundred percent sure this man killed mr andrews? if you can prove it, iâll move out your way. but you have nothing! youâre speculating based on his previous recordâ youâre just as bad as the law, jug. â
Jughead stumbled back, somewhat APPALLED Betty would take such an action against him and his anger was only building. He was quick to regain his stance again, a small scoff leaving him. It wasnât as if Betty with her small frame could do much damage but it was the shock behind it that caught Jughead off guard. âWhat the HELL are you doing?!â he finally shouted this time, anger blazing behind blue-green eyes.Â
âYou think thatâs why I love you? Betty, I fell for you a long time before my dad was even a suspect and Iâve never cared what others thought about me. If you think thatâs why then maybe you donât even know me. I fell in love with you because unlike most in this damned town, I didnât see some helpless âperfectâ daughter. I fell in love with someone who was kind and had a heart.  Yes, it helped you didnât judge me! Because I saw past the little facade everyone else saw but maybe you just didnât see through mine.â
That rage was getting the best of him. And her insistance of the manâs possible innocence wasnât helping. âNo, youâd rather let the law handle it where the guy will no doubt get away. Damn anyone who actually tries to do anything, right?â

âI really donât get why everyone is making a big deal about it.â Okay, so maybe Jughead did. It wasnât like their activities were some big secret of Riverdale. Heâd seen the look on Bettyâs face and the apprehension on everyone elseâs once they found out as well. He of all people, the son of FP Jones, knew what they were capable of but considering how the LEGAL system seemed to work just surrounding his dad, Jughead found himself caring less about ILLEGAL activities so long as murder wasnât on the checklist. His father, an innocent man forced to cover things up to protect his son, was still forced to rot away in some cell.
He didnât care about the whispers. Jughead never had and he had heard the worst of them when going to that damned OTHER school. The south side? Not as bad when it came to someone who was just different. âAnd, yâknow, so what if I joined them? I think thatâs my personal business.â
[Â Joaquin ]
âI donât have anything to say to you.â No matter how much he didnât want this kid to get himself into anymore trouble, he didnât want to meet a similar fate as the Blossom boy. He could at least say he tried.
âWell you didnât exactly have a problem telling me I should be AFRAID of someone.â Was he supposed to just let it drop? Surely he knew that Jughead just wasnât the type to do that considering how deep he delved into the Jason case.Â
[Â Betty ]
â do you think iâm stupid, jug? youâve been talking about going after someone since we got the news. â thinking about fredâs death again brought back emotions she thought she had dealt with enough to control, but was wrong. but sheâd be damned if she let him continue with his tirade against this manâ a man who he just assumed had been guilty.
she steps forward until theyâre practically chest to chest. she refused to let him lower himself to this. â you donât even know who attacked mr andrews! all of you just assumed it was him because of his pastâ hypocritical, if you ask me, considering youâre a gang? â she stared down each and every one of the men surrounding her, eyes usually so warm now feeling cold. her glance returned to her boyfriend, and she quickly looked him up and down. â i will happily defend someone who is innocent, until proven guilty, jughead. â
her eyes flicker to his fists, still curled up as if ready to pounce the moment she left. lips turning down as they quivered to prevent tears, she followed suit, nails into her palms. â go ahead, why not hurt another innocent person? who knows, maybe i did it! but why not hit me to make sure? â
âBetty!â His voice was louder now, almost a SHOUT now that she was addressing the other men surrounding them. Didnât she get what exactly she was walking into? Â Jughead was well aware that she wasnât from the south side but it wasnât like she was oblivious to what they were capable of. And now she was interrupting in what was both personal and Serpent business. It was never something he wanted her in and that he had told her the day he accept the jacket from the gang. Donât get involved. This was his business, not hers.Â
Was she seriously implying that he might hurt her? He had already realized his mistake! If there was ever anyone Jughead would never lay a hand on, it was HER. âThis is something else entirely and I know you know that.  Youâre smarter than to compare yourself to this guy.â Of course he was angry, actually taking a step BACK from Betty.Â
âLast time I checked, my dad was guilty until proven innocent, wasnât he? That bullshit logic doesnât work in the real world. And this, this is the real world. Not some perfect land, okay?! You need to go back to the trailer and we can talk about this later.â
Keep in mind that this blog doesnât deal in exclusives. Iâll interact with more than one version of a single muse. Iâll probably do mains some point soon but just because I write with one person who plays the same muse as you doesnât mean I wonât interact with you.
