What make Chandler and Monica so right for each other? And do you think there always been some feeling for each other?
What makes Chandler and Monica right for each other?
Communication. They have incredible communication and always have.
Understanding. It comes from knowing the other person for so long, but Monica understands what Chandler means, even if he doesn't say what he's thinking, she understands.
They don't assume that because they're good at communicating with and understanding each other, they know everything about each other. They still ask questions about and surprise each other
They have known each other ten years but are still interested in each other and want to know more about each other.
They respect each other.
Even before they are together, Chandler is the only person Monica is vulnerable with, he comforts her and doesn't push for answers of explanations, but makes her feel better anyway.
Meanwhile, Monica is the only person Chandler is real with. There's no pretence or walls between himself and her when it's only them in the room. He has trust issues with everyone but her.
At their cores, they are the same. They both value honestry, integrity, and generosity. And they both show that in spades. It shows in the compassion and empathy they both show as, even premondler, they take on the roles of mother and father of the group.
They have clearly bonded over the shared experience of parental neglect.
And because of that neglect, they both want to re-write wrongs in their own families. Chandler says he's afraid of commitment but everything he does screams that he wants the family he never had. Monica doesn't want to be her mother.
These are just a couple off the top of my head.
Do I think there has always been some feeling?
Without detracting from their friendship, yes. Something made Monica forgive him after misunderstanding what he said that first Thanksgiving. Something makes him forgive her for cutting off his toe. That's what friendship is. And I think theirs is a friendship that is so strong (and they're two people hell-bent on bettering themselves) that the next logical step is a relationship. And their friendship is so strong they know their relationship will be too and trust that they won't lose each other if it goes bad.
Whether they recognise their feelings as romantic feelings, or just have uncomfortable aches when Monica realises Kathy looks identical to her, or feelings of "I could be a better boyfriend than him," i'm not sure. I have talked about this at length in a previous ask (when I find it I'll link it here). But the basic gist is that off and on I do think they had crushes on each other.
