Julia smiled slightly, softly. “I could certainly get the two of you in here, for sure, if you wanted to. Technically, it is against protocall and not profesional, considering I have a personal relationship with him, and you, but again, I know I could keep myself unbiased and unattached, and just to listen. Whether or not Teddy would be interested in coming to therapy is an entirely different story, though.” Julia chuckled, because in all honesty, Julia could never see Teddy Cohen willingly partaking in therapy, absolutely not, but maybe one day, when he felt more confident in it. “Well, that’s good. If he had hurt you physically, I’d kill him myself.” Julia told her, nodding. “I know he’s not like that. He’s got a good heart, underneath it all, I know he does. He just - He’s had it rough. People who have it rough tend to lash out in ways that we don’t normally do. He has trauma, but Birdie, so do you and there comes a point where taking care of yourself becomes a priority and he needs to take care of himself. You need to take care of yourselves, separately. There’s too much, it seems, placed on each other to take care of one another. You can’t be so infused. It’s harmful.” She admitted, nodding.
“Nightmares are very triggering. Very. Do you sleep most nights, or do you need to take something to go to bed? How long does it take you to fall asleep?” Julia asked, tilting her head to the side. “If it takes too long, we can talk perhaps about giving you a light sedative to help you, absolutely. It can just take the edge off. It’s just for now. The way I describe it, especially with medication, is that you wouldn’t deprive someone with diabetes their insulin. This is the same type of thing. Anxiety and sleep trauma are truly brain disorders, and we can treat them. Nothing to be ashamed of.”
birdie chewed on her bottom lip as she listened to julia. “i uh... i don’t think he trusts me enough to talk in therapy with me... he second guesses everything i do... that might be why he wants to know so much about me.... i don’t know.” she shrugged as her face scrunched up. “i know he has a good heart i wouldn’t feel the way about him that i do without him actually caring about me in some way. i mean he suggested i come here so...” julia’s comment about what he has been through caused her to shift a little. she didn’t know a lot about his childhood but she knew that his was rough. their lives shared a lot of similar experiences despite how different they were. “i know i put too much on him... i don’t mean to i just... i don’t have many people in my life. i push a lot of them away or uh... i just... i don’t think they can handle me at times i don’t know and... i try not to burden him so much but i know i do... i know that i’m a burden to him.” she sniffled softly, once again chewing on her bottom lip. “so i try to back off of him but that makes him mad too so i just... i get confused and frustrated because i just... i love him and i don’t want to hurt him in anyway.”
“i uh... i don’t usually sleep well... i don’t know. i struggle a lot. but most nights i’m up late anyway with work i mean... that was before the curfew and stuff... but even now i have late nights... so my sleep schedule is kinda fucked up anyway.” she rambled for a moment. she knew she was dumping a lot but she couldn’t stop herself. “what uh... what would the meds do?”
