“So … make amazing lemonade … and don’t forget to share missy.” Taylor laughed and poked her friend into her side. In a friendly, playful way. 

The fact Sage called her babe … it shouldn’t make her that excited. But something about Sage has always made her smile a lot. She liked the girl. And the fact she was grinning that much now, it made it easier for sure. “Pizza is the best - original, italian pizza at least.” Taylor grinned even wider, before listening to Sage’s Mom who seemed pretty nice. At least for now. “I could say the same, really. I was actually … pretty afraid. Meeting the parents, this can be … terrifying you know? You want to be liked. Because well … I would hate if something would make you believe that I am not good enough for Sage. Because that is what I want to be.” Taylor said straight forward. She thought it was best to say it out loud. “So … now that I said that and got that out of the world, let’s hope that this fear won’t come true.” A nervous smile formed around her lips, but she was quite happy. She hoped it had been the right move, but honesty was always good. And she could only hope Sage’s parents felt the same way. “I am happy you asked me.” Taylor replied sweetly.

Sage laughed a little, “Me share my lemonade? Now why would I do that?” She laughed a little again before shaking her head, “ Of course I will share with you.” She nodded smiling for a moment. 

Sage nodded and smiled, she was excited to have pizza anyway but seeing the girl get excited made her happy and made her want the pizza even more. “Italian Pizza is great, who couldn’t love it.” Sage laughed before looking over at her mom who was sternly looking over at the girl but also had a smile on her face, “Oh well I mean I hope you weren’t too afraid. We’re glad that you joined our Sage out here on this vacation.” Sage tried to hide the blushing away but it was something she couldn’t help, her mom was great at doing anything to make it formal. Sage nodded and smiled at her parents. Before looking back at Taylor, “Taylor, did you want to go to our room quickly to get ready for dinner?”

“Exactly. Embrace life as it is, make the best out of it. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Lemonade is also super delicious so …”, Taylor laughed and winked at her friend. She was generally positive. At least she tried to be. And she really wanted to cheer Sage up. She needed that. She deserved it.

Taylor had no idea how to act really. She wanted this to go smooth. She wanted Sage’s parents to like her. But she also didn’t want to act all perfect - that wouldn’t be believable at all. She needed to find some kind of balance. So when they talked about dinner and cocktails she bit her lip before looking over to Sage. “It really does. But I have to say I am probably more excited for the food. I have a thing for foreign food. My first time eating real Italian Pizza - and not the American type - was like some kind of revelation.”, Taylor said towards her girlfriend and then looked over to her parents once again. “I just wanted to say thank you - once again - for taking me.” She had wanted to add more - things like - I would have missed Sage so much if I wasn’t here, but she had decided against it. She didn’t want to act crazy in love, this needed to be real. It needed to seem real. And they weren’t a fresh couple as far as she had understood from what Sage had told her. So there was no need for all the crazy cute stuff. 

Sage laughed a little before running a hand through her hair, “Oh Lemonade is amazing so I have to  agree with you there.” She smiled biting her lip. She smiled over at her friend, she was glad Taylor was there even under the circumstances.

Sage tried to act as natural as possible in front of her parents, she knew if they caught on to anything looking fake then this whole thing would be a bust up. Sage laughed at Taylors response, “Yeah but we all know, well I know your love for Pizza babe, so I know how excited you are for pizza.” The girl smiled as she over at her parents before back at Taylor, her mom smiled before responding, “It’s our pleasure love. It’s nice to actually finally meet you.” She stated before Sage soon went red before looking down. She smiled as she put a hand through her hair for a moment, “I am very glad you came with me.” She smiled looking over at Taylor before looking at her parents again feeling the slight nerve run through her body.

Taylor was actually thinking quite a bit while she was talking to Sage. Mostly about their chemistry. Usually such things would work out if there was a certain chemistry. That was a thing on sets of films as well right? If the actors had literally zero chemistry their act was unbelievable and nobody would ship it. Obviously everyone looked at such things differently though - so Taylor hoped their was some form of chemistry between them and that her parents saw it as well. “Yeah - but I think it’s pointless to think about this more. Like it won’t change or go away. Even if it sucks. Let’s make the best out of this.” The brunette felt how her cheeks actually flushed and she looked down for a second to regain control over her head to mouth functions - so she was able to speak. She never handled compliments all too well. “You are too. Very. That is why … I don’t even know why you’re single … I mean … you know.” This was awkward but she really felt that way. Sage was pretty. She was sweet. She was everything anyone would want from a girl, right? 

“Sure.”, Taylor got up from her seat and grinned as she took Sage’s hand into hers and dragged her out of the room. Sage told her where her parents wanted to meet again to spend some time together. Taylor let the way - she felt like she should be a bit more … dominant. Not in a sexual way obviously, but in a … she should take the lead and those things. She wanted her parents to believe she was taking good care of Sage. And that she knew what she wanted and all those good things. Taylor was a bit nervous, so she intertwined their fingers actually more to calm herself than to impress Sage’s parents, but as they stopped in front of them, she knew it would look good to them as well. “So what is the plan?”, she asked right away. They had seen each other at the air port, on the plane, on the way to the hotel - so no need to start with the nice words and hellos once again.

Sage glanced over at the girl fro a moment and laughed a little as she put a hand through her hair, she hated the idea of doing this and she did feel slightly nervous. What if her parents didn’t like the girl, what if it went back to square one again. She nodded, “You make a valid point there and I totally agree with you on that. I should just stop thinking about it and just accept it.” She stated as she took a deep breath for a moment.

As they started to take  the leap and go see her parents, she was feeling slightly nervous but at the same point knew  her friend would help her, would be by her side with whatever happened. As she felt the girls hand in hers, she smiled as they started to walk downstairs, feeling Taylor take the lead, made her feel more calm and more okay with this situation. As they stood in front of her parents, she looked over at them and saw their reactions, she wasn’t sure what to take from it. As she stood there, her parents looked at her and then at the girl, “Well the plan is to go for dinner at the restaurant and then drinks at this cocktail bar.” Her parents said, Sage looked at the girl, “Well that’s interesting. This could be fun, what do you say Tay?”

Seeing how Sage was trying to make sure her parents were not disappointed in her made her actually promise herself something - never be a parent who has incredible expectations. All children were different and not all of your kids need to develop the same or make similar choices. Just be open - and most importantly make sure they are happy. That should be the most important thing right? The fact that Sage was faking something to make her own parents happy … that was weird and pretty unhealthy but she understood nonetheless. 

“Well siblings … and parents comparing them to one another, that I do kinda understand.” Taylor quickly added and thought about her own brother. They got never compared to one another, they were way too different. But she got how parents would do such a thing. It seemed kind of obvious. You wanted your kids do well … all of them, be happy and such. So if one is happy and successful you’d want the other to be as well, right? “So in the end … they won’t get that from you … I mean you are fake dating me. I mean unless you plan a fake wedding as well…”, Taylor joked and just shook her head quickly. “I mean … you shouldn’t feel obligated to meet their standards and wants. But I mean I do get the place they are coming from. But then happiness isn’t the same for all of us. While your siblings may be happy with marriage and kids and boring jobs, you may want adventure and just being young and carefree …” That was what Taylor was all about and somehow she could imagine Sage thinking the same way. “Hopefully, I have never been introduced to parents before - my very few relationships were all so short timed … never got to meet the family. So I would hope I am presentable. And no worries about the hand holding and the cute-sy couple things. I will make them believe we are a pretty damn happy, sweet couple. Holding hands included.” Taylor wouldn’t say it out loud, but if needed she would definitely even kiss the other girl. She wanted this to be believable after all, right?

Sage was sure she had made the right choice asking Taylor to help her but she couldn’t help but feel nerves run through her, would her parents buy this? Or would they just assume it was fake? What if they did, would they hate her for it? She laughed a little shaking her head, “I mean I don’t understand it, like I don’t see why I should be compared to my sister and brother. We’re different people and I am no where near like my siblings and I don’t want to be.” She sighed, this was a constant fight in her head,did her parents want her to be like her siblings? If so why? Because she wasn’t? She was more of he let down of the family. Sage smiled, “Taylor, you’re going to do great, you’ll be amazing. My parents love you. I mean look at you. You’re amazing.” She smiled looking at the girl, one of the only people she could trust and she was happy about that. She smiled, “Sounds great. We should probably head down stairs soon.” She smiled, and although she had told the girl they wouldn’t have to kiss, part of her wanted to, she wanted to see what it would be like with the girl.

Taylor really didn’t understand some parents - some families in general. Maybe because her own was so uncomplicated and easy going. Her Mom was basically an old Hippie - who preached to make love not war. And her Step Dad was very modern in his views - he saw the changes in society, in people’s relationships with one another. When people in their neighborhood got married he would usually cock an eyebrow and ask if they had enough money put aside for the divorce - which may sound rude but in the end everyone knew he wasn’t trying to be mean. He just didn’t believe in people staying together these days. It was easy to get a divorce, and in today’s society it wasn’t a taboo at all. Not anymore.  

“I still don’t get why they’d be doing such a thing, but I am not in a position to say anything I guess. As long as I can help I am happy - really.”, Taylor insisted. “I knew it - just wanted to test you.” Taylor joked and leaned back a bit, resting her hands behind herself on the bed. “Okay then, I will be myself … just in a more sweet and charming way. Sweep them of their feet or something like this. Get them off your back.”, Taylor nodded and then tilted her head to the side. “I assume we should … hold hands and things like that when they are around, right?” Taylor bit down on her lip a bit nervously. She was not sure how much acting in front of Sage’s parents would be wanted … and necessary.

Sage was feeling anxious, not because her parents would believe her but she was anxious that  things might go south with the girl at the end of this, of course she didn’t want to lose their friendship but her whole parents situation was making her go bad and she didn’t really think it was fair that she was having to be set up to please her parents happiness. 

Sage laughed a little hearing the girls response and shook her head, “Honestly, I blame my older brother and sister for getting married young. My parents now think i have to be exactly like them.” They think they’re old and they’re going to miss out on all these big things for me so they want me to get married and all that jazz. Kind of stupid really.” She laughed a little, “Well I am really grateful for your help.” She stated as she put a hand through her hair and nodded, “You’ll be great, they’ll love you.” She smiled looking over at the girl and nodded, “Yeah unfortunately holding hands occasionally around the parents would be needed. Don’t worry we don’t have to kiss or anything like that in front of them. Maybe the occasional hug and kiss on the cheek but nothing to heavy.”

If Taylor was being quite honest she had no idea how she always got herself into situations like this. She was sitting on a king sized bed in a hotel room somewhere in Greece. How she got here? Because she was unable to say no to a person in need. Especially not to a close friend. One she actually found cute. So when Sage asked her to be her fake girlfriend she had agreed almost immediately. Especially because she would go to Greece with her and her family. Okay the family bit sounded rather complicated. Also because the family bit was the important part. Sage only wanted Taylor to fake date her, because her parents wanted to arrange a marriage for her - who in their right mind would do that? Especially if your kid was as young as Sage was. There was a life time ahead of her and they seriously couldn’t worry about grandchildren already, right? Taylor knew exactly why she said yes. She needed to somehow prevent this whole mess from happening.

That was how she ended up in this hotel room.

Taylor pulled her legs up on the bed while listening to Sage, who had already thanked her over phone and via text the last couple of days. “You really don’t need to thank me that often. I get it. I want to help you. This idea your parents had - it sucks to be honest and I wouldn’t want anyone to go through such a stupid thing.”, Taylor said and shrugged. “I mean you would do that for me as well, right?” A smile formed around her lips. “Of course I am excited for this. Greece has always been a place I wanted to go to - so this is amazing. Your parents on the other hand … do I need to behave in any kind of way? Do I need to be … more serious, or sweet … what would they look like in a potential partner of yours. I want to be the perfect girl, right? So they won’t even try to pick up that idea again.”

Sage never understood her family requirements, because her older sister and brother both got engaged around twenty and twenty one didn’t mean she needed to be the one getting engaged, couldn’t she just have fun until she was ready to settle down and get married. Sage was very glad to know that Taylor would pretend to be her girlfriend to get her parents off her back. 

She sat on the bed in their room and looked at the girl and bit her lip, “I think it’s important that I do, I feel terribly guilty for this so I am very greatful for this. It is very stupid but this is my parents this is what they’re like.” She laughed looking at the girl for a moment as she put a hand through her hair for a moment, and nodded, “Yes of course I would do it for you as well.” She stated as she smiled for a moment, “Well I am glad you got to come here with me. Well I mean just be yourself really, I mean of course you should be a little sweet but mainly yourself. Kind of yes, I hope they would more be happy i have found someone who makes me happy.”

Vacation Time - Sage and Taylor

Sage was sure her parents couldn’t help but think Love was important so being told they were going to arrange a marriage for her, she was in crisis, she didn’t want an arranged marriage, she wanted to marry someone she actually loved. So it was her time to find someone she could ask to pretend to be her significant other to figure things out, they would also get a vacation out of it which worked better for her and hopefully the friend she asked. 

After going through who she could ask, it seemed to be the only option to ask one of her close friends Taylor, they had been good friends for a while and she couldn’t help but think the girl was attractive so what would be wrong with telling her parents that she was in love with the girl and she saw her future with her. 

After asking the girl and inviting her on the family holiday, she was glad to know that the girl had accepted and in all honesty she was excited to actually get to spend time with the girl on holiday and hang out. But the first part of the holiday would be introducing the girl to her parents. 

After agreeing to meet her parents in Greece, so she arrived with the girl and found the air b&b her parents had sorted out. She took the girl to her room and smiled briefly. “Thank you for doing this really? I don’t know how I can actually ever repay you for this Tay.” She stated looking at her, “Are you excited for the holiday though? And excited to meet my parents?”
