No problem. Need anymore food for the road?
“No, I’m okay, thanks.”
“I’ll see you around, Gabriel.”
[waves her hand nonchalantly]
Yeah, yeah, hop in. [she leaned across the car to unlock the passenger door]
Where ya headed? Church?
[Gets in the car]
If it’s no trouble.
“I can try. I will. But still can’t guarantee anything.”
“I know. Still, though. Thanks.”
As she spoke, Gabe’s eyebrows rose higher and higher. A bionic leg? That was a new one. A leg was damn hard to get, but it wasn’t impossible. An amputee had come by before, needing some help, and through some of his friends he had managed to get one. Out of legal means, he was sure it wasn’t, but the man had been suffering. “I…I might be able to help. Nothing for certain though, I’m not sure.”
“It’s better than nothing.”
“I’d be really grateful if you would look into it, Gabe.”
I’ve calmed down. Get into a lot less trouble now. Learnt from my many mistakes and all that growing up shit.
Alright. So, you giving me a ride?
[ holds up the plastic vodka bottle, tapping it lightly against Liv’s hand that held her cigarette ] Cheers then. To sunsets, quiet, and being pretty. [ chuckled lightly, taking a sip then handing it to Liv ]
Cheers. [Drinks]
Oh… really?
I mean… I am too… actually.
[Smiles]
That’d be cool. The pretty would be… nice. Or somethin’. Like I said… been a while. [ twists open the bottle and takes a swig, sucking some air through her teeth as she handed it over to Liv ] Thanks… for bringin’ me. Needed a change of scenery…
No problem. I’m glad you wanted to come.
Hell yes. [ reaches to slip one out of the pack, lifting her butt off the ground to dig the zippo out of her back pocket and light it ]
The sunset up here must be awesome to see. I don’t remember the last time I stopped to look. [ pulls her bag in front of her, between her legs, and unzips it to find the bottle of vodka ] If camping out up here wasn’t such a risk, I’d do it.
It is. We can stay and watch if you want to; it sets hours before curfew, and it’s not technically illegal to be up here, so.
[ steps out on the roof, closing her eyes as she takes a deep ] This is nice. I get why you come here. [ walks further out toward the edge before swinging her bag off her shoulder and sitting down on the concrete ]
[Sits down beside her]
Yeah. It is. [Offers her the pack] Want one?
I get that… it’s a sweet spot. And the Church can get crowded.
Here we are.
[Opens the door, leaving it open behind her for Q to follow]
Excellent plan. [ follows behind her into the building, yanking the door almost all the way shut behind the two of them ] You been coming here a while? [ slows down her pace to scan the building, getting a feel for their surroundings and any other exits should they need it ]
Yeah. I like the quiet, and being so high above everything. Gives me time to think about stuff or just be alone for a while.
We need fun.
Well… I need fun, at least.
Let’s do it, then!
First, though, we’re getting drunk. Come on. [Approaches a rusty door on the building they’re in front of – the tallest one in the area – and hauls it open]
Gabe wanted to press further, learn why she didn’t always have a steady supply of food, but dropped it. If she didn’t want to talk about it, he wouldn’t push. Wasn’t his place. “What are you here about then?”
“It’s kind of a long shot, actually, I..” Liv paused, lowering the ice cream cone, her hands resting in her lap. “I have this friend. She, uh, she lost her leg a while ago. Actually I think it’s been almost a year. Anyway, she needs a bionic one. It doesn’t have to be new or anything, it just has to work; ‘cause right now she’s on crutches, and the plastic prosthetic she had broke. She’s really struggling.” The Rag Doll raised her eyes to meet Gabriel’s. “I was wondering if you might.. know somebody.”
Oh. Cool. Thanks. I’ve been antsy as shit. Maybe it’s time to throw one of our famous Doll parties.
That could be fun.
I got it covered. Will gave me this thing, hell if I know how it works, but it temporarily makes the trackers think the car’s still in the garage, by the time Government’s noticed it’s missing, I’ll have this baby back at the gas station with all the trackers ripped out.
Alright, that’s good.
I wouldn’t want anyone to get in trouble.
