Bidder 71

The last movie we watched was called Bidder 70. The movie was about a man who was arrested for standing up for his beliefs concerning the environment. He disputed an illegal selling of land in an action be placing false bids and wining. He could not pay for his winning so he was arrested and sent to jail. The movie revolves around that idea but goes into his life as an organizer of peace riots against the system that he believes is corrupt.

This movie made me very depressed. I don’t have much faith in the current system as it is but this movie reaffirmed my feelings. In the movie the main protagonist wondered why the poor are arrested but the rich who started the illegal don’t get any repercussions. There is a simple answer to that, they can buy their way out.

As I watched this movie I stated to think about what issues I would be willing to get arrested for. My conclusion came out to be nothing. I would be willing to go to the peace riots but I would not get arrested for any issue. I am 19 years old I don’t need that record hanging over my head all my life.

I do respect the man for what he did and I do understand his point and his call for aid to fight the corrupted system but I don’t have the willingness to do what he has. I think the movie would have benefited by focusing more on problem then the man fighting it. I would have liked to learn more about the area he was protecting and less about the peace riot organization. It was a nice thing to see but not the most interesting thing to see in my opinion.

In all I liked the movie, it was an eye opener, I had never heard of this issues until the movie. I would like to participate in one of the organizations peace riots if I get the chance, I just won’t try to get arrested.

Farming a Dying Occupation

The movie Eating Alabama was about a man and his family and friends trying to eat only food produces that were grown by people from Alabama. That is how it starts, throughout the movie he starts to realize that there are problems with this idea. First he goes shopping for food at farmers markets and drive over 700 miles for one week of food. He realizes that he can’t do that every week so he goes to local farms and sees the trials they face. He tells us his family history and how his ancestry is composed of mainly farmers.

            This movie may have started as a test but it revealed that farming is becoming a dyeing occupation. The amount or farmers has decreased significantly senses world war two. There are many different sources saying the same thing. There is an author names Wendal Berry who wrote many books about the subject about the disappearance of American farmers.

            I can say I have seen this issue first hand in my home town in Walden Vermont. We were once a farming town but within my lifetime there has been a drop in farming families in my town. There was seven families that made profits off their farms selling milk or vegetables. Now the majority of then use their farm for supporting themselves only.

            Farming is a dying occupation and it is our duty to preserve it. Farming is a historic part of American history and we should support them in any way we can. You could support them by going to local farmers markets or going directly to the farms themselves and buying the food from them instead of going to the grocery store.

Floating logs, Half off

    This movie was about the treat of encroaching waterlines toward beachfront property. This movie talked a lot about the struggles between economic solutions that are slowing down the problem and the enviable loss of high value property. Most likely everybody knows that we are slowly losing beaches to the oceans and with global warming there will be flooding on a massive scale. So much so that we will need to redraw the land maps of the world. This was brought to my attention more than ten years ago when I viewed the “Involvement Truth.” That movie was about the cause of global warming and the environmental effects it will have

This movie we viewed was about super storm sandy. It was more economic based and unequal how some states only work to protect high value properties with million dollar homes on it. It pointed out serious problems with the system showing people who see the problem can but deny that it is a problem.

Nucla the town that sound like it should be in the game, Fallout.

This movie was about a town named Nucla that had two opposing sides on the construction of a uranium mine.as for the call to action i did not see one, to me this was a movie for awareness rather then calling a person to action.

for me how know nothing about this situation i found it very interesting to watch. the movie had me choosing the side that i could relate with, which was the residences of the town. my town in Vermont is in the same economic situation so i can relate strongly with the people of that town. the movie did that very well.

it invoked emotion the way it was shot, they showed the landscape in a way that demonstrated the vastness and isolation of the area, how they interviewed the people in the movie had a appeal that i can't put in words. the way the movie was shot made it feel truly relevant to me. other styles made me feel greater then it is like there was no hope to solve the problem but the style and how they shot this movie showed the pain and hope of the residence.

the movie did not spark the greatest of interest in me do to the fact that it does not effect me in any way.
