She gently stroked his nose, feeling the scales beneath her fingers. Dark green scales seemed to shimmer with gold. Soot smudged along his lips a remnant of what happened the day before.

“We’ll get through this,” she replied just as softly. “Just like we always have.”

“But what if we can’t? Things can’t just go back to the way they were, Anne. I’m a monster, more than I ever was before.” It was true, Loki didn’t think he was worth saving anymore. Not after what he has done. 

“I’ll send you to a kingdom not too far from here. Find the greatest knights you can find, and send them to hunt me down. I’ll make it easy for them.”

The dragon nodded slightly, understanding perfectly. “Power is given to those who can wield it. The reason some down have such powers, is for their own good. Nothing good can come from trying to wield the powers of others.” He spoke softly. What he said was true. If humans had the powers he had, well, there would be chaos. Death everywhere. Humans were not made to have such power.

Sorry guys I don’t know if I’ll be able to do replies tonight. I’ve had a rough couple of days with my depression to the point where RPing is more of a chore then fun to me right now. All I want to do is just curl up in bed and cry, because I just have no drive to even wake up in the morning anymore. I have no idea when I’ll be back, I’ll try to force myself back on tomorrow, but I can’t promise it.

Anne sat there for several long minutes, heart hammering painfully. His somewhat calmer tone easing her own fears. It took a bit of time but at last her heart and breathing slowed.

When she had at last calmed herself a bit, she crept carefully forward on hand and knee. Stopping a few feet away she looked up at him. There was still a hint of fear in her eyes but curiosity and sadness were also there. She reached out a hand to him, not quite touching but close.

“Oh Loki,” she murmured with a sad smile. “My amazing, wonderful, but still quick to act Loki.”

Loki leaned forward slightly, closing the few inches from the tip of his nose to her hand. It was the first real human touch he had since he was turned into this beast. 

“I’m so sorry.” He murmured, looking at his love with sorrowful eyes.

+Good.+ the voice whispered chillingly. It seemed to take an odd satisfaction from his confession +Then you will understand they are VERY real, some more than others…+ To illustrate, Tejilu lifted a hand to a pile of fallen, still lit timber. She began to close her fingers, one at a time as the fire flickered, wavered and began to die. The hand snapped shut into a fist, and the fire roared white, the blaze cascading into an inferno. The hand released its grip, and the fire shrunk once more. A droplet of blood ran from Tejilu’s nose.

The dragon looked at the other in wonder. No one he has met had been able to hold fire like that. It’s like she was a little dragon herself. The scent of blood is really what got his attention. “You are bleeding, mal dov, little dragon.” Loki said softly, lowering his head on the ground to settle down for sleep. 

“Are you alright?”

At Loki’s booming tone, Anne hunched over even more afraid. She tried to move away from him but found a stone wall at her back.

Even his softer tone did little to ease her fear. She could only tremble and watch him with wide eyes.

Loki was more hurt than anything, now, his giant green eyes misting up a bit. He never wanted her afraid of him. 

“I don’t know how to stop. I can’t turn back into a man. I’m stuck like this. But if you are afraid of me, what’s the point? I just... I don’t know what to do.” He muttered pitifully, his voice for the first time showing vulnerability.

Her landing on the stone balcony wasn’t hard but it wasn’t the softest either. Stone scraped at her already tender hands as she sat hunched over. She had begun to hyperventilate with terror while flying and her breathing took several long minutes to calm.

Tears pricked at Anne’s eyes as she looked over at Loki. For the first time in a long time she was afraid of him.

Loki saw the fear in her eyes, and for some reason it only made him angry. “Why are you afraid? You should never be afraid of me!” He boomed, his front feet pounding at the ground in anger. 

“Krosis, my apologies. I did not mean to lose my temper.”

The feeling of being pulled from sleep and suddenly flying made Anne scream. It was truly terrifying. With the wind rushing past her ears she barely heard Loki’s words.

Her fear was overwhelming as she could do little but scrabble to grab at the scaly dragon’s foot that held her and watch as the mountains grew steadily near.

At hearing Anne’s scream, Loki flinched, but didn’t stop flying. As they flew closer to the mountain, a large, abandoned but strongly built castle. The dragon hovered over one of the balconies before dropping Anne down, making sure not to hurt her. 

Loki then backed up slightly, landed, and looked at Anne with smoke flowing out his nostrils.

It had been a very long night for Anne and the few remaining villagers. She had worked until the wee hours tending to those who needed help. Many gave her evil looks as they had seen her talking to the dragon.

Dawn rose to find Anne asleep curled beneath a few burnt out timbers. Soot and ash smudged her fine dress adding to the dark circles beneath her eyes.

Loki was circling above when he caught a glimpse of Anne. He swooped down, knocking over the timbers and grabbing Anne before soaring back into the air. 

“You are coming with me.” He growled, flying towards the mountains.

The ground practically shook with Loki’s mighty roar, causing Anne to stumble back in fear. She landed on the ashen ground burning her hand on still hot cinders but she didn’t pay attention. Instead she watched the man she loved, now in the form of a great dragon, push her away once more and fly off.

She knew it was probably for the best lest either one of them say something, but it still hurt.

Knowing that she would never be able to catch up to Loki, let alone find him, Anne turned back to the remnants of the village. There was virtually nothing left except a few burnt timbers leaning at various angles. The fires had been left to burn since there were so few left alive to try and put them out. Those with the least amount of injures tended those who were hurt worse. 

It was a terrible scene and it broke Anne’s heart knowing her love, her precious Loki, was the one who caused it.

The dragon was furious, breathing fire at the walls, scratching and thrashing until it seemed the cave would collapse on itself. If probably be better if it did, and land on him in the process. The great dragon let out another ferocious roar, making a few chips of rock tumble to the cave floor.

Having nothing more to destroy without harming himself, the ex-prince laid down on the stone, his head facing towards the opening, barely seeing the slowly dying embers of the town he just demolished. He shouldn’t feel bad about it. He shouldn’t feel remorse.  He was a dragon damnit! And with that thought, Loki finally was able to forget his shame, close his eyes, and fall asleep.

When morning rose, so did the dragon. He was now on a mission he couldn’t be deterred from, he just needed to fine Anne. The dragon flew up high over the town from last night, hoping she would be somewhere nearby.

It has been too long since I have slept peacefully under a blanket of stars…+ Tejilu sat back in the ashes, pleasantly surprised as to how comforting they were against her skin. She gripped a handful and blew the char to the wind, watching it go. +Do you believe of daemons, Loki? The ones that scratch at the back of a mind, whispering the truths of the world through forked tongues?+

Loki was quiet for a few moments, thinking about her question. Did he really believe in those daemons? Or did he just come so accustom to them, he thought of them as himself now? “Aye,I do believe in dark ones that are able to whisper even darker things into one’s mind. I even have some of my own. To an extent, of course.” The dragon quickly added to not make himself look weak.

Taking a jump back she managed to miss the falling timbers. A few sparks singed her face and hands but she quickly brushed them away. The physical pain was nothing to what she felt inside.

“I didn’t mean it like that Loki,” she replied. She looked towards the smoldering buildings them back towards him. “No, I don’t understand.” she sighed before looking away. “And I doubt I ever will.”

The anger burned through Loki, and he let out a roar that echoed through the sky. The mighty dragon let out it’s wings, pushing up into the air. He needed to get out of there, before he said, or did, something he would regret. 

Anne’s words hurt him, and he wanted to get away. He took refuge in his new home, a cave not far away. She would never understand. He was once a king, only to be reduced to a creature who only knew hatred and destruction. She could never understand why he did things like that. And maybe that was for the best.
