Bart
That was awfully unexpected. No Loki had not told him any of this. He took it all in at once, mixed of confusion and hurt at the image of Loki killing anyone, much less… himself? If it was HIM, then was it really murder, or, suicide, in a sense? How did that work? His confusion muddled in more questions - and outrage (which should have poured in ) was staved off. Bart felt Loki’s movement, but wasn’t too sure he wanted to leave just yet. He could feel a worried sort of movement from Loki, and was sure he was now expected to leave after hearing this shocking news.
And yes, part of him wanted to leave. But that part that loved Loki was what kept him glued to his seat. He couldn’t really imagine having claims of LOVE tossed to your feet, then taken away because of a mistake you’ve made - albeit a terrible mistake. He could even think of others who’ve made terrible mistakes, such as murder, and were claiming to be better. Trying. Did Bart believe him? Should he - ? Had Loki ever given him reason to be doubted? No, he couldn’t think of an instance.
“ I can’t say I’m in love with you just yet but - Loki, I do care about you. Very much. I’m sorry about your… brother. Sorry he hit you. I don’t want to pretend I understand how gods think - and even though I…. have trouble understand people who kill others… whatever your reasons were, you did them because you absolutely had to, didn’t you? ” His fingers curled around Loki’s hand, “ I don’t want to not meet again. You’re not… you’re not someone I’d want out of my life, okay? ”
It would have been far easier to accept the speedster standing and walking away. But that wasn’t the case, why? It took him a moment to process those digits wrapping around his hand, holding him with such tenderness. Trying to reassure him of those words which echoed in an unexpectedly chaotic mind. Had Bart honestly not changed? Did the speedster ever think about himself? “In love?” The god of stories echoed, incredulity flashing briefly across his features. “If you know what is best for you, you will avoid me while you are still able to. Becoming involved with me only seems to bring those who claim to care for me grief.”
He had his reasons to have done what he did. Kid Loki had simply been a suitable vessel at the time, however it’d brought forth so much guilt and so many consequences. The god of stories had to fall on his face a few times before being able to achieve his enlightened state. And even so, he knew his current situation was hardly an absolute. They all consistently shifted and changed in time, moulding their stories as they came in order to continue weaving something so fantastical it would hardly be believed.
”Why couldn’t you say ‘leave’?” Not in love with him just yet? The last he wanted was Bart suffering due to his infamy. Loki couldn’t promise anyone that this change would remain, he couldn’t give his best friend that courtesy. And yet the speedster was there, with an expression which he couldn’t quite decipher. He didn’t want to understand it, because piecing it together could make him realise that he was, indeed, telling the truth. His brow furrowed, as he knew Bart would refuse to change his mind. He could be stubborn like that. “Why do you insist in remaining by my side in spite of the fact others will give you a hard time over your decision?”
