If someone wanted to start making digital art, where should they begin? And which is easier for drawing the head: starting with a circle or a square? I've watched so many tutorials that say one thing and then another, and it just ends up being really confusing.

Honestly BECAUSE there are so many ways to start, I say it's best to just pick one artist you like and copy their methods and see if it works out for you. If you don't like it, try another one and stick to that. Don't worry about "doing things right" because there is no "right way" to do things. It's just about finding out which method works for you!

I know that's kind of a vague answer, but honestly just trying one artist's method at a time might be helpful and feel less overwhelming. And again, if you don't like it, you can seek out/try another way.

Also as for how to start out drawing the head, that's another thing that is honestly preference. There's the Lumis Method which I prefer myself, but there are other ways. Again, it boils down to experimentation and finding a workflow that works best for you.

I totally understand being utterly confused by how much information is out there, though. Espeically when you're a beginner and you have no idea which way to start.

I'll give you some artists that I like to watch and learn from, hopefully they help you start!

Proko has a LOT of great resources for beginner artists, I highly recommend their channel.

Another guy I recommend is Sinix Design, not only does he have great tutorials, but also I recommend watching his Paintover Pals series! Seeing him constructively criticize and paint over people's submissions is a great learning device because you get to see how he would correct common mistakes.

And lastly, I recommend watching speed-paints to see artists workflow and try to copy them, break down their workflow and try to understand why they do certain things. It's really useful!
