When Aaron finds him, Monty is comparing the eye he made to the one he currently uses. It's bigger and, hopefully, Ace will have the wires he needs to actually somewhat connect it in the socket. 30 years of no depth perception will finally be over for him.

"Hm?" He looks at Aaron, unaware of how unsettling it is to have someone who is missing an eye give almost direct eye contact. "Right, t'anks." And with that off he goes, down into the basement with his makeshift cane.

Okay. Not the weirdest thing Aaron has seen, considering who he lives with, but still. Unsettling enough.

God he hopes he doesn't have two freaks on his hands now.

"Nothing to thank me about." He opens the basement door for Monty, a series of codes and biometrics to keep it safe, and lets him go down while he fetches the food. As expected, his brother is already working. He hopes today's going to be a 'nothing' day, but his hopes are dashed when Ace speaks up while he's fetching yesterday's dishes.

"Were you planning on saying anything about Montgomery's limitations?"

Fuck. Right in front of their 'guest', too. Humiliation burns his throat as he closes his eyes.

"I didn't— I didn't think about it." He swallows. "Sorry."

"Of course. Can't expect anything better from you, can I? Leave. Make yourself and find his cane. Stupid to leave evidence outside."

Aaron retreats with his tail between his legs and they're left in silence once more. More work to do.

Monty gets comfortable at his desk, surprised that Ace says anything at all. He feels a little bad that Aaron is being reprimanded for something that isn't entirely his fault.

He decides not to pay attention to that, instead working on the eye he'd made, making a few major adjustments, such as the little camera that's supposed to make sure he can actually see. It's not ever going to record anything; it's just there to simulate what his eyesight would be like if he still had both his eyes.

A few hours (he's been doing actual work in between, hence why it took so long to finish) and the eye is done and ready to try out.

Placing his glass eye on the desk, he pops in the mechanical one, blinking a couple of times to get used to it. Then he takes a quick moment to look around the room. It works. He can actually see everything how it's meant to be.

It's so weird.

He would take a break to get used to it but he's not sure of the consequences of falling behind.

Monty gets up pretty early.

Not intentionally, he just can't sleep for that long and his job before being kidnapped never actually gave him the chance to sleep in.

So when Aaron goes into the kitchen, it's suspiciously clean. Monty isn't in there anymore but it's completely clean so he should take that as a win. He's still set on Aaron not hating him nearly as much as he already does.

Monty's honestly just been trying to kill time until Ace wakes up so that he can go into the basement.

Aaron steps into the kitchen and his hangover doesn't prevent him from being extremely creeped out by the cleanliness. Sure, he keeps a tidy house, if only because Ace fries his brains if he doesn't, but still. He's sure he's left stuff out yesterday.

His thoughts jump to Monty and he frowns. Not sure how to feel about that. It's weird having someone else alive in the house.

Ace has been awake since before Aaron's alarm went off. He's working again. He expects Aaron to bring down both breakfast and their guest. Alive, preferably.

Feeling a little lost, Aaron makes breakfast and stands around for a few minutes before going looking for Monty. His brain is still catching up. He hates feeling like this. When he finds him, he doesn't look straight at him, just points over his shoulder. "Basement."

His whole body hurts from the previous day's... demonstration. Fuck this. Making his way down the stairs, he wonders to himself where everyone is sleeping. Doesn't care.

He's hoping Ace won't shock him — he may not be able to feel much in his legs but the car shrapnel in them can still cause a lot of screwups if electricity reaches them.

Ace blinks slowly, like it takes him a while to process information. He might be a genius when it comes to machines, but people... people take more effort.

A spark of annoyance breaks through whatever haze is usually smothering his emotions and he sighs. "Couldn't even bring it inside or mention it. He really is good for nothing," he mutters, moving over to a section full of scrap that's waiting for a new purpose. He glances over at Monty, roughly estimating his height and making calculations in his head. Limbs and joints are nothing but hydraulics.

It takes him ten minutes to put together something that can be used as a cane. He walks over to Monty and leaves it in reach, walks away to stand by his workstation, and silently waits for the man to leave.

Somehow Ace showing annoyance puts Monty at a low level of ease because, despite it being a negative emotion, it is an emotion. He can show emotion! The Stare is not all he can display.

When Ace gives him the makeshift cane, Monty is reasonably surprised as he stands up carefully, giving his better leg a moment to adjust to standing. The makeshift cane is actually fairly decent and the sizing is almost perfect.

"T'anks, sir," he says as he makes his way upstairs, unfortunately slow. He misses when he could run but those days are over 30 years behind him.

Ace doesn't reply, just stares at him silently, waiting for him to leave. There's a corner in the basement set up for when he crashes after too many days working, and he'll just sleep there.

On the first floor, there's a second set of stairs leading upstairs, behind a door Aaron had left ajar. The second floor had two doors, both shut. The one Ace had told Monty to go through leads to a simple bedroom, with very little in the way of personal touches. All the furniture is of high quality, but there is barely anything that indicates the room is actually used.

There are some books on a shelf, and some robotic components on top of the dresser, but almost nothing else. The forest outside is dark. It's late.

Ace realizes it's probably too late when he misses the screwdriver next to him for the third time. Aaron usually reminds him to sleep, but with his punishment, he has been going to his room early and not leaving until the morning. Leave Ace to work for... how long has it been? Aaron didn't come down tonight, or the night before, or—

He needs to sleep.

Getting up, he leaves his tools where they are, and moves towards the stairs, before he realizes that Monty is. Still there. He could just leave and not say anything. But he doesn't trust the man alone in his workshop. He'd rather sleep in his workshop than leave Monty here alone.

"Montgomery. Go upstairs, to the second floor. The door on the left is a bedroom. You can sleep there tonight."

He's genuinely fascinated by the, to his knowledge, normal sibling banter. The only thing that makes it strange is that Aaron isn't allowed to respond with anything as witty, lest he get hurt.

The hours tick away, and the only significant event is one of the cameras beeping to alert Ace that Aaron is back. There are dozens of them, covering almost every inch of the forest and house. Aaron's not to be trusted, the cameras are a necessity.

After more work, the door to the basement opens and the smell of food wafts down as Aaron comes down the stairs with a tray. He stops in his spot, waiting for Ace to tell him to come forward. Bad idea to approach his brother without notice. They don't speak to each other this time, not while Aaron leaves some food by Ace, and then some by Monty, glaring at him as he does. "Don't choke," he mutters quietly before walking away.

"Can I go to my room now?" Aaron asks, and he's looking at the floor, trying not to provoke Ace. It's just code for getting absolutely smashed in his room because he fucked up a week ago and he's not allowed to leave for the club.

"Hm, go ahead and go kill off more braincells, it's not like you're using them."

God, Ace is in a bad mood today.

Aaron just shrugs, a silent version of 'whatever' and leaves. There are a couple of bottle of liquor with his name on them.

He watches as Ace physically turns the Bug around, watching it skitter across the floor in awe. So they aren't remotely controlled. Interesting discovery.

He puts down a little barrier to stop the bug from moving too far away, watching it scuttle back and forth.

Then he types in a line of code and it walks around the barrier. Nice.

Ace could work for days without breaking, and the only reason he didn't was that Aaron brought him food and reminded him to sleep. Bothersome, having needs. He'd like to work forever without being disturbed.

He mostly ignores Monty, tries not to let the stress of having another person nearby get to him. Without Aaron in the house, he'd be very vulnerable if his emotions got the better of him.

Ace doesn't acknowledge Monty at all, although for someone who could read him like his brother could, it was noticeable that he was more tense than usual. Unused to the idea of sharing his space. It will probably be fine. Probably.

On Monty's main screen, a notification pops up, a shared files through the workshop's intranet. Because Ace wasn't about to give a stranger internet access. The file contains the Bug's code, the simplest of his creations. There is no note attached to it, nothing. Just the file.

Aaron glares at Monty like he's offended the man even thought to talk to him. He wonders if he can just walk away without saying anything. "I'd leave you to rot outside if I could," he mutters, approaching Monty. "Ask him yourself." He's not going to risk his own skin for someone else.

His shirt rides up as he picks Monty up again, and the skin underneath is gruesomely black and blue.

Down in the basement, Ace is still at one of his desks, elbows deep in the guts of some mechanical monstrosity. A special order. Aaron gracelessly deposits Monty on a desk with a computer and three screens across the room and turns his back to him.

"I'm going to the store."

"Can you actually bring what we need this time, or should I get some crayons for you to try and make a list?" Ace drones, without looking up. Aaron clenches his teeth and looks away before leaving.

"I'll manage."

"See that you do."

There's nothing either of them can do about it though so there it is. Monty can tell that Aaron isn't going to warm up to him at any point in his stay.

He decides to focus on the cameras, counting how many he's seen since leaving the basement and comparing it to the number of screens in the basement.

Well alright then. Looks like his captor(/employer?) will have to be 'Sir' for the foreseeable future. That's fine, he knows one name at least: Aaron.

Monty decides that perhaps it's time to speak up about the cane because he actually can't walk without it. However, that can happen later, or Ace can notice on his own. Whichever one comes first

He attempts to get up on his own, only to end up on the ground again. Shuffling across the floor it is then.

"Oh man, that's pathetic," Aaron mutters under his breath, flinching when Ace glances his way. His brother doesn't look at Monty, absorbed in whatever upgrade he's working on. Doesn't seem to notice the man is struggling.

Aaron stands around for a few seconds, wondering if Ace is going to be more annoyed if he speaks up, or if he walks into his space without speaking up first. He hates his life.

"Can I go pick him up? He's not walking."

Ace hums and waves him off. Well, good enough.

Carefully, Aaron makes his way over to Monty, always careful not to trip anything or activate anything, and kneels down. His body hurts. Without asking, he grabs him and throws him over his shoulder, and starts making his way upstairs. Anything to leave that pit. None too gently, he drops him in one of the seats and starts going towards the kitchen. Why would he have anything to say to his twin's temporary pet?
