Oh, don't you worry, little one. You'll learn well from my supposed 'future' quite well. She thought to herself. Now then, if I recall the method that is required to make use of this ability...
Eremiya then placed both of her own hands onto the orb, as she took a deep breath, before she then began the chant to make use of the orb.
"O orb of futures unseen, reveal to me a future that my own path shall guide me towards... And let it be shown before my own two eyes."
There were a moment of silence, before the surface of the orb began to light up, until the light slowly began to fill the orb, until the entire orb was alight... as the future was slowly revealed to her.
There is a small cathedral. It is not often visited by foot-traffic, and so it has very few people who regularly do their faithful service there.
But what the cathedral lacked in clergymen and people of faith, it was abundant with another type of people: children.
The winds blow gently on the grass surrounding the facility, as even the nearby trees had their leaves flicker gently to the wind.
It seemed to be noon, as a massive gaggle of children were running about, playing with each other, their faces filled with immense joy, as if they were letting themselves enjoy a brief moment of carefreeness.
And overwatching them, was the church's sole bishop, and the sole member of the church overseeing the facility. Dressed in silk-like robes, with a mitre bearing the symbol of Naga's faith on it, Eremiya watched the children gently, with a content smile on her face.
She quickly notices that a over-energetic child tripped on a rock, and was about to go face-first into a root, which promised a painful fall, as Eremiya reacted quickly, as she casted a quick spell to whisk the child back to their feet with a simple spell, as the child looked stunned for a moment, all while Eremiya approached them.
"Goodness!" She declared, with stern pout on her face. "How many times do i have to tell you that you shouldn't run around without care for your surroundings? You could have taken a nasty fall there!"
"....I'm sorry, Miss Eremiya." The child declared, with a chided look on his face, with a regretful look on his face. "I was just playing tag with the others."
"....Hah. I suppose that I won't be short for chances to work." Eremiya sighed, although she reverted to her gentle smile. "...But that's alright. Just make sure to learn your lesson. I truly don't want to see you children end up getting hurt so badly. You have a long life ahead for you."
However, before she could turn, Eremiya felt a small hand tag her on the lower end of her own back, right on the spine, as she jolted briefly.
"Tag~ You're it, Miss Eremiya!" The young girl who tagged Eremiya declared, while letting out a impish giggle with a broad toothy grin.
"I say, how rude of you." Eremiya huffed. "But if you insist on playing these games with me, then it is my duty as your caretaker to teach you an important lesson about how unfair things can get when you rush into things."
Eremiya then immediately throttled forward, as she chased the girl around, as the latter was truly enjoying the act, as Eremiya, in fact, did not take it seriously, as she just held back enough to make the child be just out of her reach.
Because what would not be one of the best ways to understand a child, than to partake in their hobbies, and make it enjoyable them.
...What... What is this...?
This... This is far from what she wanted to show! This... this has to be a farce! There is no possible way that such a saccharine future would possibly be-
It could have been. It really could have.
Again with this...! No, no, she refuses to believe that this is really all that there is. She must have failed. She must have failed somewhere! It all fall aparts somewhere! Such naive theology must have caused her ruin!
She merely just needs to-!
Night falls on the day, as she tucks the last child into bed, as she extinguishes the candles with a flick of her own wrist, the brief rush of wind enough to extinguish the living flames, as she began to prepare to leave.
And yet, she felt a sense of unease suddenly, as she reacted quickly, as she rushed into the rooms, as she locked any doors and windows that she could find, last of all being the front door, which she locked, after passing through it.
The torch-light was clear proof that someone had found this cathedral, this orphanage that she had spent a decade and a half maintaining, raising children for almost every single day since her stay there. And she was certain that at night like this... there was only one possible kind of people who would find their way here.
She steeled herself, as she made sure that there was no other potential ways for her children to be endangered, before she then tapped against the miniaturized grimoire hidden in her own cloth. It might only contain a few spells... but more than enough to handle her unwelcome guests.
Eventually, the group under the torch revealed themselves, as they seemed to be the local brigands. Eremiya could not mistake it, considering how 'unique' their appearances are. She racked her head momentarily, wondering why they would suddenly attack this place out of the blue... but that slipped her mind quick, considering that she doesn't have time to worry about that.
"Well, lookie here. You shouldn't be out here, church girl." The leader of the brigand group mocked her. "You never know what kind of monsters are out here, ready to do horrible, horrible things to you."
"I already see your point." Eremiya declared, refusing to let herself shown any sign of hesitance or submission. "If you're here seeking plunder, know that there is not a single bit of gold in these halls, and that there is only food for my own charges."
"Hah." The brigand leader barked. "You assume that we don't know that. Sure, we don't have any good reason to plunder your little daycare... until now, that is."
"Care to elaborate?" Eremiya responded back.
"You have a noble-blooded brat in your care." The brigand leader declared. "Now, while we don't have any specific description to go off, I heard that noble brats can make for some hefty ransom. And considering that you're a woman of the cloth... that's a bonus. Need something to keep my men pleased."
The rest of brigands jeer and hoot at her, making their intentions with her clear. Eremiya merely narrowed her eyes, as she took a brief silence.
"I see." Eremiya answered back, her tone even.
"So do us a favor, don't try anything stupid." The brigand leader declared. "Forget your stupid goddess, who won't be coming down to save you or your kiddies. You'll be better off in a bed, pleasuring proper men."
"Your uncouthness has no bounds." Eremiya declared, before she then drew out her own miniature grimoire. "And you assume that I need to pray for divine intervention for your lot."
"Hah, and what are you going to do with a dinky book like that-" One of the brigands mocked, before Eremiya let out a shout, as several blade-like waves made of magical wind formed, as they immediately blasted the brigand who tried to finish his taunt, as well as several of his nearby compatriots, sending them hurtling through the air, until they were smashed against the nearby trees.
"Come at me, if you dare. I will not let any of my children be touched by your hands." Eremiya declared, with a fiery determination in her eyes. "I might be sworn to Naga's faith to be a gentle and kind soul, but that doesn't mean I shall allow you to be unpunished for your own transgressions. You will see justice, whether it be in a cell, or in a grave."
"Damn bitch... GET HER!" The brigand leader snarled.
As Eremiya watched the scene unfold before her, she found herself becoming more and more unsettled by what she was seeing.
This... this caricature of her... why isn't she slaughtering these bandit filth!? Where is the bloodshed, where is the ruthlessness!? She can't even kill them properly, she's just simply incapacitating them.
She must kill them! She has to kill them!
Eremiya was left unsettled, as she could only watch the 'future' unfold before her. And worst of all... Kanna promised to witness it fully... and she knows that this is the opposite of what she was trying to make him understand!
