The lights of the city of L.A could still been seen even though they weren’t in the city, and rather in the suburbs of it, inside the huge, expensive home of Tao’s. The lights shined into Tao’s bedroom, from the wide windows, and dimly lit the room. Tao sat on his bed, tangled in the sheets, slowly drawing circles on the bare back of Chen who lay beside him halfway wrapped in the clean white sheets and snoring softly.
It was past midnight, so while Tao couldn’t sleep, he didn’t want to wake up his husband. His new husband. They had only gotten married the day previously here in L.A since gay marriage was legal in America, and also, so that they could honeymoon here immediately after. They started their honeymoon off with sex of course, and that had apparently worn out Chen, but Tao wasn’t surprised by that. He did go a bit hard.
Tao ran his hand through Chen’s hair gently then shifted his gaze to the windows, but his husband stirred. He looked back to him as he rolled over onto his back, his eyes opening, and looked up at Tao. He frowned.
“Why aren’t you sleeping?” he asked.
“Couldn’t,” Tao said. “Did I wake you?”
“Kind of,” Chen yawned as he sat up. “But if you can’t sleep I’ll stay up with you.”
“Are you sure?” he asked, pinching Chen’s cheek.
“Yeah,” he pushed Tao’s hand away but intertwined his fingers with his on his lap. “I’m surprised you have energy after what you did to me earlier.”
Tao grinned. “I could say the same to you.” he said.
Chen went a bit red and huffed. “Right, anyway, how about we go have some hot cocoa or something?” he asked.
“That sounds nice, Chen.”
Chen smiled as he got out of bed and pulled on some boxers and a robe. Tao dressed himself then the two of them left the bedroom and started downstairs.
Chen was still amazed at how nice this home was, and well how nice everything Tao owned was. He knew Tao’s father was rather wealthy but it seemed like most of this had come from his own work. Either way, he had to admit it was a bit of a plus of being with Tao.
They came into the kitchen and while Chen went to the fridge, Tao sat on the island.
“Hm?” he said as he pulled out milk and chocolate syrup.
He grinned. “How does it feel to be Huang Jongdae?”
“I don’t like being called Jongdae, Tao,” he hissed, grabbing mugs from the cabinet.
“Right right, okay then Huang Chen?”
He poured two mugs of milk and popped them into the microwave. “Sounds like I am really Chinese.” Chen said. “I love it.”
Tao grinned at him, though he wasn’t looking at him. He slid off of the island and stepped up behind him, snaking his arms around his waist. Chen smiled as Tao rested his head on his shoulder.
“I love you too.” Chen said. Tao pecked his cheek. “When to we have to go back to China?”
“In a week,” Tao said. “I’m starting tour again.”
“But,” Tao pecked his cheek again, “You’ll be coming with me.”
“You already forgot huh?”
“Yeah…kinda.” he sighed as he took the milk from the microwave and and put some chocolate syrup into them.
“It’s the reason we got married and you forgot already, Chen?”
Chen’s brows furrowed. He took some spoons and stirred the drinks, passing one to Tao. “Oh, it’s the reason we got married? Not because we love each other?” he said sarcastically.
Tao rolled his eyes as he took a sip of the hot cocoa. “Of course it was because I love you.” he said. “The fact you can come with me now was just a plus.”
Chen chuckled. Tao pecked his cheek then sipped his cocoa again.
“Will you sleep after this?” Chen asked. “I was cold without you holding me.”
Tao smiled at him. “Sure, I’ll try too.” he said. He chugged his cocoa and then went and set the mug in the sink.
Chen sighed and drank all of his, putting the mug in the sink as well. Tao took his hand and they returned to their bedroom. Chen threw his bathrobe off and got into bed, Tao following, and the younger wrapped himself around Chen under the blankets.
Tao’s nose was pressed against the nape of Chen’s neck and Tao could smell his own cologne on him. He grinned and placed a gentle kiss on the back of his neck, sending a shiver down Chen’s spine, and he went red.
“Night, Mr. Huang.” Tao whispered with a grin.
“Goodnight, Tao.” Chen said.
Soon, Tao fell asleep, his soft snores filling the room now. Chen smiled to himself, holding Tao’s hands as they were around him, and fell asleep himself.
Rain always messed up their plans. It was like it followed them….or maybe just Tao. But Tao pouted every time Chen blamed him for the rain so he stopped saying that, at least aloud. They were supposed to go out today and shop a little, and go swimming at the beach, but the rain kept them inside. So, chen sat in their bed with a cup of coffee, wrapped up in the blankets, watching TV. Though he didn’t understand what was going on, he didn’t care because at least it was somewhat entertaining.
The bedroom door opened and Tao came in with a bag of takeout. He smiled and came over. Chen took the food from him and he climbed onto the bed, sitting cross legged beside Chen. Chen drank the rest of his coffee then set the mug on the nightstand. He and Tao opened the food and began eating.
Tao glanced at the TV as he took a bite of his burger. “Have you been watching this trash show while I was gone?” he asked.
“There was nothing else on, so,” Chen shrugged. He munched on some of his frys. He and Tao were silent as they ate, since they were so hungry. Chen finished first and once he had he laid back on the pillows.
“Bummer our plans got trashed today.” Tao remarked.
“Yeah,” Chen sighed, looking to the window. “I really wanted to go swimming.”
“I know, Baby,” Tao leaned over to peck his cheek. “We can tomorrow.”
He sighed. “Alright. It’s just with how little of time we have here I hate that a day was wasted.”
Tao ate the last of his food then cleaned up the trash before lying down beside chen. “Well, I still have this house here. It’s not going away. So whenever we can come to L.A, we’ll go okay?” he said.
Chen smiled at him. “Alright,” he said. “Promise?” he held out his pinky and thumb.
Tao grinned and wrapped his pinky around Chens and pressed his thumb to his. “Promise.” he said. “But….you know the ran doesn’t have to keep us inside.”
Chen’s brows furrowed. “What’re you getting at?” he asked.
“Why don’t we go play out in the rain?” Tao asked.
Tao huffed at chen. “C’mon, it’ll be fun…and maybe romantic.” he winked at him.
Chen laughed in a mocking way. “Yeah, if this was an american romance movie.” he sneered.
Tao sighed and pouted. “Come on, Chen, let’s go out in the rain.”
Chen groaned. “Fine, fine, if you stop whining.” he said.
Tao nodded and climbed off of the bed. Chen followed him and the younger ran out of the room, seeming overly excited. Chen went after him. They stumbled downstairs and through the house to the front doors.
Tao didn’t bother putting on shoes before pushing the front doors open and stepped out onto the steps. He stayed there under the awning and waited for Chen to come out. Chen slipped on some of his shoes and joined him.
Tao jumped from the stairs and into the path leading up to his front door, splashing in the puddles. Chen stepped to the edge of the steps and held his hand out from under the awning. The rain pelted his hand and he grinned. Tao spun around to face his husband.
Chen sighed and stepped out, bracing against the cold rain and stepped over to Tao. Tao smiled and swept Chen’s face into his hands to kiss him gently. It reminded him of the night Tao proposed, when he arrived after his long flight and then they cuddled. Chen smiled into the kiss at the thought.
When Tao pulled away, he bounced away from Chen and splashed through the puddles in the path to his door. Chen chuckled and ran after him. He attacked his sides and Tao let out a scream, stumbling away and falling onto the pavement.
Chen laughed. “You’re such a big baby.” he said.
“You know I’m ticklish, don’t do that!” Tao cried.
Tao rolled his eyes and continued on. He decided to run across the yard to the driveway of the house where more puddles were. Chen trudged after him.
His shirt was so soaked now it stuck to his torso, exposing the frame of his body and muscles. Chen watched him as he spun around in the puddles, his tan skin glistening with rain. He smiled to himself at the thought of how lucky he was to have married him.
Tao realized Chen was not with him and paused then turned to him. He grinned and ran over to Chen. As he went to bolt away, Tao picked him up and hung him over his shoulder. Chen screamed as he spun around with him. When he let him back down and he stumbled and fell into the mud. He whined.
“Tao!” Chen groaned as he got up and shook the mud from himself.
“I’m sorry,” Tao said, though he was grinning, and pulled Chen close to give him a kiss again. “How about a shower?”
Chen went a bit red. “Sure,”
Tao continued to grin at Chen for a moment before he picked him up again and started into the house.
“Tao, put me down. What’re you doing?”
Tao said nothing as he continued to carry Chen. He huffed and allowed him to, all the way into the house and upstairs to the master bathroom. He set him down and his wet feet touched the cold tile floor. Tao left him and went over to start the shower. As he did, Chen began pulling off his heavy wet clothes and threw them onto the floor.
A small chuckle escaped Tao. Chen glanced back at him and saw he was watching him undress. He went red and threw one of the socks he’d taken off at Tao. He flailed to avoid it and did.
“I’m sorry,” Tao said. “But I mean can you blame me-”
“Just shut up and get out of your clothes.” Chen huffed and went over to the shower. He got in as Tao got out of his own clothes, then joined him.
Tao waited as Chen washed the mud from himself, then he moved to let Tao under the water. Tao went under, but pulled Chen with him, wrapping his arms around his husband’s waist. Chen peered up at him, looking a bit red.
“I love you too,” Chen pecked his lips and he smiled.
They spent a while in the shower together, enjoying the warmth of the water and each others bodies. It was until chen was literally falling asleep in Tao’s arms that they finally got out. They got into pyjamas and climbed into bed together. Chen, still tired, wrapped himself around Tao when he got under the blankets with him. Tao smiled and ran his hands through Chen’s damp hair.
“Going to sleep?” Tao asked.
“Alright, Chen,” he said. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Taozi.” he held him tighter and soon, with the sound of the TV and rain in his ears, he passed out on Tao. Moments later, Tao fell asleep holding him tightly.
