he should’ve seen this coming. trading the navy for a pirate crew meant he was bound to run into some familiar faces he’d rather spend the rest of his miserable existence avoiding. and of course she just had to say something to him. ricardo clenched his jaw at the implication that he was willing to do anything for the royal navy. he truly should’ve simply let the comment go, but when had the man ever been able to let anything go? “you caught me. i dragged my ass out here just to take you away because i care that much.” he didn’t even make an attempt to mask his displeasure. “isn’t there some ship you should be terrorizing right now?”
and he’d taken the bait. oh, it was almost too easy to rile him up. “ i didn’t take you for the caring sort, but i suppose people do change, ” she retorted swiftly, a thinly veiled jab at his new form of employment. biyu may have hired him, and her judgement overrode all regardless of who disagreed, but that did not mean lucía would trust him. life may drive them into corners, and perhaps he’d joined the navy so long ago out of force than free will, but that did not mean she would forget who he’d been. “ it’s so sweet you care what i’m doing. terrorizing ships is not on my agenda tonight, believe it or not. no, you see, we will call it a — new beginning. isn’t that why you’re here, too? ”

like all beginnings and endings in ronan’s life, his leave from the curse of alantis and entrance to the fortuna was a cause for celebration. and what better way to celebrate than with a barrel full of rum and causing just a little bit of havoc before leaving for the high seas again? unfortunately, he’d had all the rum and none of the trouble quite yet. seizing the opportunity to get into some ruckus with a partner in crime, he grinned at the first person who was unfortunate enough to catch his eyes.
“this has been fun and all, but a little too tame for my liking,” he announced with a mischievous glint in his eyes, “is your boredom killing you like mine?”
mildly entertained by the arguing pair one table over, she watched the woman in green toss a drink down her partner’s shirt and storm out, curls whipping across her furious face. “ what a waste of perfectly good liquor, ” lucía mused languidly, as if the spirits in this pub were of any actual quality. her gaze slid to ronan then as she reached for the bottle on the table, pouring herself another generous glass. “ would you care to state more of the obvious? this is a dull, dull night, ronan, and we can’t have that. do you have a plan, or shall we improvise? ”

Sammy smiled pleasantly when the man turned his back, finally finding it not worth the trouble. When the man had gone, he chortled before taking another fruitful sip of his ale. “Better him running away than you having to break his nose. Though I admit any damage to him is well-deserved.” he supplied quickly.
He took the empty seat next to Lucía now. Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe what he felt. Though he knew his fellow crew member can take care of herself, Sammy simply can’t help but butt in for caring. “Next time a bloke does that, be my guest. But we wanna be in shape before we sail, don’t we?” Sammy tried to reason with a playful grin before waving a hand dismissively. They had surgeons on the Fortuna, but it would be better if neither of them were bruised up when the captain does her rounds. “Being polite goes a long way around these ports. It’s Nassau. They aren’t an unreasonable lot, thank heavens for that. What did the fool do to piss you off this time?”
“ You know, Sammy, I don’t really know if that is the better option, ” she drawled with a half-grin. Still, he was right — Biyu had standards, and Lucía supposed needless fights were not included. But rather than admit that, she flicked a strand of hair behind her ear and let out a scoff. “ As if he’d even land a punch. And, yes, there are worse places to be. But I’ll be polite when they start to. ” Taking a sip of her drink, she waved her hand dismissively. “ He just talked. His voice was irritating. He was one of those types, you know — the sort that thinks they’re charming but actually aren’t in the slightest. ”

well, well, well. look who it is. a face that james could never truly rid of, one that he is more than willing to look for whenever he goes. not that the young woman who quite literally landed in his arms would know. “ ’s been a while since you fell for me, ” james mused. no doubt in his mind that she would remember him as clearly as he her. james’ arms move to hold her in place, shifting his body to shield her from the man whisking by — no doubt looking for the very same woman in front of him. a giant smile placed on his face as he looked down at her. “ was this your plan to get my attention, sweetheart? you gots it. ”
clarity dawns on her as she realizes just who she’s run into, and she drops the act as quickly as lightning flashing across a stormy sky. “ i’d say so, since that’s been never, ” retorts lucía, though her tone’s not quite as cutting as it could be. how long has it been? months? a year? she does not know, and she does not yearn for him, either — but this is still not an unpleasant surprise. she takes two moments longer than she should to remove herself from his arms, her gaze darting to her retreated pursuer before it focuses back on james. “ no, actually, but you’ve helped me out of quite a bind, ” she admits almost reluctantly. “ but if you wanted my attention, ” here, a winning smile plays on red lips, “ i suppose we’re even. don’t tell me you missed me. ”

[ open to anybody ]
he sat in his dimly-lit corner of his favorite tavern, king george’s grave (otherwise known simply as the grave), a stack of papers and books in front of him, as well as an inkwell, quill, and a single flickering red candle.
it had been a couple of days since he started spreading word that captain biyu was looking for a crew, and now he simply had to wait for them to file in and discuss whether they were fit for the job.
del bosque had already denied the job to a few prospectives. promise of work was scarce these days, but a job as potentially dangerous as this was not suited for just anybody. he had to make sure he vetted prospective crew members heavily, or else the fortuna would soon be right back in nassau looking for more crew to fill the vacancies, including del bosque’s.
he did not look up as he heard somebody take the seat across from him at the makeshift desk, keeping his eyes on the register beneath his quill. “full name and age, please.”
how del bosque had the patience to vet each and every potential crew member was beyond her; she’d hung around for a good fifteen minutes before leaving out of boredom. she made her return a significant amount of time later, watching a would-be sailor storm off, cursing del bosque’s poor taste in judgement.
“ he seems nice, ” lucía remarked dryly, amused smirk tugging at her lips. “ are you sure there wasn’t room? ” as she slid into the seat across from him, she tossed a paper-wrapped coconut bread bun onto the table. “ it smelled so good as i was walking by, and thought you’d might like something to eat — ” a soft oh! left her then, as if she’d just recalled he’d actually asked her something of vague importance. heaving a dramatic sigh, she straightened in her chair.
“ you know this already, but, for your benefit, lucía mendoza, ” she began, adopting an overly formal, haughty tone, “ twenty-eight. ” dropping the act, she narrowed her eyes at him. “ now, don’t you need a break? or, i don’t know, some sunlight? ”

He sheathed his sword back into its place and immediately proceeded to check how bad the thugs had ruined shirt and… oh, there was some blood on his cheek. Disgusting. Pulling out a handkerchief, he cleaned his face and then fixed his collar. He was going to say something, his mouth opened a little, but she was gone. Romeo looked around and his first ( and logical instinct ) was to simply head back to the inn where he was staying, but a hunch made him stop and turn his head back to the possible route the woman may have taken.
After asking different people about the woman´s whereabouts, he finally spotted her at the distance. “Hey—!”, he called, realizing he never asked for a name. “’Excuse me, ma´am”, he muttered to a lady next to him as he moved her aside to pass through the crowded corridors of the place, “Passing through, pardon me, could you please…? Oh! Beautiful dress”, these were some of the things he threw around with a heavy English accent as he made it through the obstacles and finally reached his objective. “You certainly are hard to catch, m´lady. I just wanted to make a remark on how marvelous the teamwork was back there; you certainly know your ways with a gun”.
@luciavioleta
When a distinctively aristocratic voice reached her ears, Lucía whirled around, exasperation coloring her features. You certainly are hard to catch. “ That’s the point, ” she’d muttered. Her hair was a mess, there were bruises forming somewhere, and there was blood flecked on her blouse again, just when she’d gotten the bloodstains out — the last thing she needed was some pretty rich boy running after her. Even if said pretty rich boy could handle a sword.
And what a lovely sword it was, clearly well-crafted, a weapon of blue bloods. She might’ve stolen it if not for him being part of Biyu’s crew; see, she could play nice. She couldn’t remember his name, but she did recognize him — it was hard not to, with him being so obviously out of place.
( Besides, swords like that and men like him attracted more attention than for what they were worth. )
Dashing off as she did after the fight, she thought she’d lost him, but apparently his persistence wasn’t to be underestimated. “ Look, one, cut the m’lady bullshit. ” She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. “ Call me Lucía, since we’re on the same fucking ship. And thanks. As for you, well — you are better than I thought you’d be. Two, don’t you have somewhere to be? Some fancy inn or something? ”
You never need to apologize for how you chose to survive.
