Day 5 (Part 2), March 29, 2016 - New Orleans After the kids ran around Jackson Square for a bit we drove over the bridge to see Auntie Bette, Uncle Sal and cousins Samantha and Remy in Algiers. I hadn't seen my aunt and uncle in over 8 years, Samantha in over 20 years and this was the first time everyone met the kids /they met each other. After the primal ritual of scoping each other out, Remy and Dax got down to the serious business of playing with the enviable task of just being 6 year olds!Then we headed to Savo's for a superb lunch of oysters on the half shell, fried shrimp Po Boy, fried alligator (which was more delicious than you might think) and crawfish!

Day 5 (Part 1) March 29, 2016 - New Orleans, LA.

We pulled into New Orleans about midnight (Monday night) after a visit along the way to see Jon’s aunt in New Iberia and picking up Po Boy sandwiches at Bon Creole. Taking full advantage of being able to book last minute online, we got a good deal on a 4 star hotel in the heart of the French Quarter.

The kids had been asleep as has been the routine for past few days and they woke up when we checked in. When we got to our new room they were super excited and got their second wind, jumping on the beds and bouncing off the walls. I put them in the bath and Jon popped out to get us a much earned Daiquiri…when in NOLA.

The photo on the too left is of a remote spot where we had to stop for Cade to take a pee. It happened to be next to a bayou with the swamp creatures in full concert and the moon providing just enough light so that Cade didn’t pee on himself …ha! ha!

I couldn’t resist…Cade on the “Potette Plus” in the middle of a random industrial estate just before Lake Charles. When a little boy has to go, you better be ready!

Day 4, March 27, 2016 - Houston, TX. to New Orleans, LA.

We arrived in Fulshear, TX just outside of Houston about 6.45pm last night to spend the night with my cousin Lynn and her husband Chuck. It had been almost 7 years since I last saw Lynn, over 19 years since seeing Chuck and the first time for them to meet the kids [caveat Lynn did meet Dax when he was 2 months old].

We were fed like royalty with delicious smoked steak. Jon’s cousin Neal was able to join us for dinner too who lives in Katy, TX. Jon hadn’t seen Neal in almost 10 years! So all in all it was a great night of family reunions and new introductions. 😍

Day 3, March 27, 2016 (Easter Sunday) - Austin to Houston

Yesterday was a big travel day. We covered over 750 miles, getting into Austin around 3am! Like that wasn’t enough, Jon (who deserves dad of the year award) then ran out to a 24 hour Walmart to get Easter baskets!!#%

We all slept in this morning and then headed to Easter brunch at a cool spot, Brunch Haus. It was a food truck trailer park which had open air family style seating and all different types of food, a really cool concept.

Day 2 - March 26, 2016

Stayed the night in Las Cruces and checked out the White Sands National Monument

Kids have been troopers...the dual screen DVD player has been our savior, helping us to narrowly escape temporary insanity with the constant whining and squabbling.

Moving day - March 24,2016. Thanks Fernando and brother Ricardo and your guys for taking such good care of us. They arrived around 9.30am and didn’t leave until 4.00pm. We used up all their boxes and they had no more room in the truck. That’s what 12 years of no moving or garage sales gets you…oh and 3 kids!

We left San Pedro about 8pm and headed out on the 91 East. Who would have thought there’d be traffic at 9.30pm! We spent the night in Blythe and got a crack of noon start the next day after some much needed sleep.
