@lynnloveless
the three genders.....
wait which panel did they remove from vol. 8?? :0
YOU'VE ACTIVATED MY CRAZY EVIL MODE I AM SO CRAZY AND UPSET ABOUT THIS okay so loveless was originally translated into english by fan translators before it was picked up by tokyopop and this is to be expected but for some reason every fan translation i can find uses a copy of volume 8 that was unfinished (with things being not shaded/colored entirely) and ofc things were finished for the official release and there were a couple notable changes between the copies that ultimately weren't much (like a doorknob design being changed, the library sign being changed, etc)... except for one specific panel that i loved to death that got changed completely between the unfinished and finished version and it was this seimei & ritsuka panel:
which i love TO DEATH. it was changed from this to this:
and i cannot for the life of me understand why they changed it like that. that og panel was gorgeous it was one of THE defining ritsuka + seimei moments for me during my first read through AND THEY GOT RID OF IT FOR THE OFFICIAL VERSION. YOU CAN ONLY READ IT IN THE UNFINISHED COPY. it pisses me off so bad im so upset about it forever I CAN NEVER OWN A COPY OF LOVELESS WITH MY FAVORITE PANEL. it kills me inside. it's literally so beautiful and it's so disgusting ritsuka is like a doll being maneuvered by seimei he's bending down to him like they do this all the time like they're about to kiss and ritsuka looks uncomfortable but he doesn't fight it and seimei is pretending that he loves ritsuka looking into his eyes so soulfully and it's all an act and it KILLS ME it hurts so so bad and it's just so perfect for them and i can understand that they wanted to add more eeriness and distance but it wasn't worth it nothing would be worth it to get rid of this panel.... i shed real tears over this when i realized. and i will again this is a promise and a threat.... i can never forgive them for taking it from me in the official release.... NEVER....

BABY SEIMEI
Innocence
i think we can really trust this guy to tell us if something is abuse or not
a baby soubi who is sometimes forgotten....................
also he almost has the same pants as yuiko
this is also a great baby soubi panel <3 he looks so uncomfortable <3
just got done with the yun kouga 40th anniversary exhibit
and some more pics :)
fuuuuck i just realized we do see a non-virgin bathing in loveless. faceless girl takes a shower in vol 11. fuck. it's not a bath but this does put a damper on things.... im really sad rn.... my fav symbolism that means NOTHING now.... ok it still means something because the bathtub itself is used only by virgins but im still upset. distraught even. it was all for nothing.... no it wasnt but still....
I think it fits perfectly well into your symbolism, though.
Hatsu and Keiji (had to run to get my Volume 11 to find their given names, haha) clearly lost their ears to one another. They would probably argue it's because only they can see each other's "true face" and not be forgotten, but I also don't think they've exactly tried to fight against this fate. Hatsu is implied to be the one who goes outside for work, not Keiji. Keiji only goes down to the ground floor of their apartment building to buy canned coffee and otherwise works via his computer.
Hatsu goes to the shower right after scolding her brother for his spend-thrift ways. Which to me reads as she thinks of the outside world as dirty, and Keiji and the space they share as clean. There's no bubbles, no bonding or sense to be had in the shower. Which is very unlike the virginal bath scenes we see.
Hatsu doesn't have to sit in the feelings that follow her from outside. They go straight down the drain.
Faceless "don't belong to anyone." Meaning they aren't allied with Seven Voices Academy- I doubt they attended, given Hatsu's question of "Why me? Why him? Out of ten siblings, why were only he and I this way?" Meaning that their family on the whole wasn't embroiled in whatever Seven Voices Academy actually is.
listen i know soubi has A Thing against drugs/medication but listen. i just think if someone slipped some ketamine in his food he'd feel a lot better. you just have to treat him like a dog that doesn't like taking meds. put it in a pill pocket or something, just get that man on something
giving soubi seroquel would fix loveless
i'm personally down for an entire spin off manga of kio having to figure out new and creative ways to outsmart soubi and somehow slip him his antidepressents
Until the series' end, I'll keep wishing for Misaki to acknowledge that she went to Seven Voices Academy, or to find out how exactly she was changed by Seimei (through Nisei or Soubi). Especially with the Zero Boys revealing that Ritsuka has not changed since losing his memories.
Although her wanting to appear "normal" to the Zero Boys is... interesting. She remembers how she reacted to Yuiko, but how much does she actually remember about her previous patterns of behavior?
I'm pretty confident that Misaki is a fighter and not a sacrifice (given that she's clearly not one of the Seven Voices), but she'd still be vulnerable to attack without a proper sacrifice giving her orders, regardless of her power levels. She also shows a lot of the fawning behaviors that I've come to expect of fighters in the series...
But there's still some kind of mental block going on, because she's baffled at the idea that Ritsuka might have a "mark" on him somewhere. As if the concept of the True Name appearing on either of her sons is completely foreign to her.
I will say that Soubi clocked her immediately when he acknowledged that abuse happens in cycles. I don't think that, even if Misaki wasn't abusing her youngest son from the start of the series, that she would able to support Ritsuka. Especially not in a way that protects him from other adults perving on him.
She herself was implied to have had sexual relations with her teacher, after all, and whether it was Aoyagi-sensei or not, she became a part of the Aoyagi family. Fucking wild.
To continue from the last big text post, though, it’s jusy really amazing how in both soubi and ritsuka managed to be failed by every single adult in their lives so they just cling to the worst person they can who is also the only person left for them: each other. it is so incredible how few fucks had to be given for this to happen.
if only one person had cared about either of them, just one…but nope, soubi just had ritsu (shudders) everyone else at seven voices academy (who all treated [and still treat] him like an ultimate scapegoat, “haha! teacher’s pet!”) and even nagisa, who got my hopes up a little during my first read-through, was (pretty much) only pissed off at ritsu for raping soubi because she was jealous! JEALOUS!
And for ritsuka…you have kio, whose fiery, intense hatred for soubi lightning mcgrooming ritsuka died down so quickly and mostly because ritsuka is an aoyagi, not because he is twelve. hitomi, who was too shy to do something about ritsuka being beaten and who somehow didn’t realize soubi was Not A Safe Adult. Misaki for…well, being the one beating Ritsuka. Seimei for being himself, though he just barely turns 18 IIRC…MASAKI, RITSUKA’S ABSENT FATHER…
literally society just failed them both it’s mind-blowing
