The Canon EOS 80D is one of the best DSLR cameras I have ever used and has worked very well for my production work. I have always been interested in Canon DSLR’s because I actively used the Canon EOS 70D at my high school’s television and digital film production facility.
In addition, I was a huge fan of the 50mm Canon f 1.8 lens which is great for close-up video and portrait photos.

Keep in mind that DSLR’s are not video cameras and will automatically stop recording after 30 minutes or less due to European laws and overheating issues which are common on most DSLR’s. If you need to record continuously for longer than 15 minutes, I advise purchasing the Canon EOS C100 which boasts an APS-C sensor and proper ventilation to allow continuous recording in the AVCHD codec, which is a lower bit rate codec designed for long record times.

The Canon EOS 80D supports high bit rate recording in the MOV format meaning that you can make more color corrections and color grading in post-production. The touch screen also makes it easy to change focus and adjust settings to achieve the cinematic look with the APS-C sensor. You may need to buy a high speed memory card if you want to do shutter priority for pictures or high quality video. I recommend the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mpbs memory card.

In terms of batteries, i’d recommend the standard canon batteries that canon makes for the 80D.

For a backup battery, Watson is a reliable battery brand that is good incase you need a little extra power for your shoot.

In terms of audio, i would purchase an external recorder or a external microphone but it really depends on your shooting needs.
